I've been using Win8 on a few machines at work and I can say that if you have a touch screen, it's FANTASTIC. If you don't... just turn on the regular desktop and you're fine.

I'm running Win 7 (upgrade) on my laptop which is 6 years old and came with Vista originally installed. It's running fine.
Is it worth upgrading to Win 8??

There are several add-on's that bring the old style desktop back for those using Win8... A free one that I like is called Classic Shell. A few settings tweaks to it and it can do almost anything you'd wish. You can even customize the start button to how you want it to look if you are a bit handy with a photoshop like program.

If you like Win7 and don't have a touch screen, then I'd stick with it until we see what the upgrade holds.
