I just changed the cotton on one of my KFL+ and it's gurgling and leaking. It's a build I've been using for about a week and the wick is exactly the same type as I've been using on them for several weeks. The atty was washed, coil checked, dry-fired, rechecked and all the o-rings inspected. The top one (cover 2 chimney) routinely removed from seat, washed fully and replaced —and learning from ugly previous experiences– taking care of correct positioning.

The atty is not leaking spontaneously so I think it's not a seal problem. The wick is of the same thickness, lentgth and placement as I've been successfully doing for weeks —I'm not fixing what's not broken.

Why the gurgling and leaking after pulls then? I'd hate to open it and lose some expensive juice (scrooge here). Ideas?

Sometimes when I replace a wick in my KFLs it takes a few drags to clear the excess juice. The excess juice in my case is from putting too much juice on the new wick before closing it up. If it was working before the new wick I would say that may be your problem. Try just vaping away and see if it clears on it's on. Also by inverting it for a few seconds you'll clear juice that has gotten into the air intake. Good luck

I completely stopped my authentic Kayfun Lite Plus (v2) from an occasional flooding by replacing the cotton wick with braided silica wick (looks basically like cotton yarn).

And another good thing about silica is you can dry-burn it, and it lasts a very very long time without making the juice a dark color like cotton does.

Try it ... you will like it!

Put your finger on air hole and draw. If it's impossible to take air - wick problem. If you can - there is crack somewhere and the atty take improperly air. Look at tank, threads, again O rings.

Of course! Should have tested it for air tightness. It's the wick. I'll have to open it. :(
OK, I'll save what I can and do it again. 1000 Thanks Topper!

Just put a drop on each end to avoid "flying hair" caught on the chamber threads so that's not it. I blew it and ran a pipe cleaner through the chimney and air intake. Trying again. ..

Try inverting the tank while on your mod fire while blowing through air hole. Should clear it right up. If you have to break it apart to re wick. Just tried this method last night for fun. It worked well, and very little juice loss.

Hope that helps.

Great tip, thanks for the link!

I've used it and have a good supply of it. Never could duplicate the cotton wicking action tho. Tips for best results with it?

Hmmm.... Mine is working perfect. I put my finger on the air hole and couldn't draw. Don't understand this test.
I do get if things aren't tightened down and/or an o ring issue you can have a vacuum leak.

The idea is that if you feel air entering the atty while you have the air intake blocked, then one of the seals is not good, the usual culprit is the chimney 2 top cover 5mm one. They're a regular pita. Why after so many iterations of Kayfuns they haven't replaced that with a threaded connection is beyond my comprehension. :(

what does the nest do that an extra long wick does not?

I have the wicks on my build short and against the block walls so they don't block the channels, and the donut/nest in a circle around the coil above it, but I make sure I can see the whole coil from the top. It works well that way. On my Magma I make nests with longer wicks and sometime cut extra cotton and stuff under my coils, but I don't know if that would work as well on the kayfun.

The nest allows for a proper short wick(keep channels clear)
Allows for extra e-liquid available to the coil - reduced chance of dry hits if vaping more heavily.
Aids in preventing leakage through the air passage.

Also always leave an air bubble in the tank when filling.
