The ss430 when its twisted, has to be torched real good before making coils out of it. That's what I learned tonight.

Before and after results.

Looks much better. :thumb: Couple questions though. Is that cotton or rayon or some other fiber? And if not cotton do you know the char temp of that material? It just doesn't look like cotton to me. :)

Its Rayon, not sure what the char temp is, but It starts to brown up at 420F. So the very highest temp to keep it none chard from my short experiment is 400F.
390F might be the safest temp for Rayon.

Ill have to go back to Rayon thread and dig up more info on it, since this is my first week using TC mode.

Many of you know that SS wire can be difficult to work with because its more springy than Kanthal. So here is my $2 ($1.26 with tax to be exact) Jig. You can get the hooks at Home Depot in a pack of 2, they are labeled #10. Burgundy plastic bag.

This allows me to make a twisted wire much easier and faster with one hand VS using allen wrench method (that wobbles) and pliers of some sort.
With these two hooks, the wire twisting is none wobbling, its very smooth and even. Keep the wire tight and even as you wrap it around and between each hook. Then all you have to do is pull the trigger on your drill and watch the magic happen.

Can be used with any wire with as many strands as you wish. Also works as a tool organiser or you can hang random computer cables or cell phone cables on the side of your desk.

If you do get the #10 size, be sure to pre-drill the hole in the wood with 7/64 drill bit. And you should always pre-drill a hole before screwing in any type of screws into a wood, even if its compressed particle board.

After torching the wire for a bit the temp control protection is working correctly up to 400f.

Looks like ill have to rebuild two tanks, since i couldnt figure out why i was getting dry hits even at 285F. Need to torch SS wire for a lot longer before i start building coils out of it.

Yeah I glow my coils a number of times and strum out any hotspots with both 316/430

From the first pulse I see a very uneven glow that soon settles down to a nice inside out glow

Keep seeing posts saying SS is springy so your definitely not alone

Although I got my wire from Crazy Wire / Vape Mesh Company and it coils like Kanthal A1

I got my SS430 from Unkamen Supplies, they guarantee US made and Nickel free wire. I have no idea what kind and where SlowTech gets their SS wires, so im sticking to Murican SS wire.

SS430 is like a snake, far more pain in the .... then Kanthal when it comes to making twisted wire. A some sort of Jig is highly recommended or 6 hands.

Here is what i do.
I make a twisted wire. Then i take the twisted wire to the kitchen and torch it on a gas stove a few times till it glows yellow and wire turns black. I dont have a hand held propane torch or a Butane torch, but the gas stove works just as well but takes a bit longer because the flames and the heat from each flame isnt as concentrated as a Butane Torch.

Ones the wire has been torched at least 3 times, then i make a coil out of it. Its much easier to work with, its easier to mold it and the TC on the MOD will read it properly. That is my short experimental experience so far. It works well for me, so im sticking with it until some one finds a better method.

p.s.
Untorched legs inside the posts, will throw off TC reading. So make sure the legs inside the posts have been pre-torched before making a coil. I learned that the hard way.

Unkamen will be buying from a supplier similar to the one I listed which was NOT Fasttech :)

Many vendors buy from here due to good prices,

List price for single sales is low and they offer further reduction for bulk buys

I do love what Brits make. But the "Marine Grade" is throwing me off. I guess it can be used in salt waters when fishing do to its high corrosion resistance?

lol that's because they provide wire too many industries , I guess

But you would need to know a lot more about metals than I to make use of all the info they supply

Taken from 26awg marine grade ;)

Potato patato. Im guessing Brits have a lingo of their own to brand same wire using different wording. As long as its safe and safer what comes out of Chinese factories, then ill vape it.

Normal, with some practise youll figure it out and it will get easier as threads will be used more often.

well for a pricey mod was hoping for smoother threads. seems like the need to exert pressure to catch threads increase the likelihood of cross threading. Thanks for the info @KGB7. hope to enjoy the ml once i figure out TC and how to operate it.

My advice, get a 800 grit sandpaper and smooth out the sharp edges on the threads. At the end of the day, youll have to apply pressure to screw it down and live with it. No device is perfect, so youll have to live with the good and the bad.

I use a Quarter, a door key or tea spoon. RX200 might have a magnetic door, but we have a Mod that is 10 times better in every way...except for battery door. Even the cars we drive have its flaws and the sun gives us cancer.
