Message sent to Thomas F. O'Mara my local representative as follows. Is there anyone else I can get in touch with?
I would like to take the time to give you my views on Bill S6939-2013 the proposed ban on eliquid sales in NY state.
I was a smoker for over 30 years. I became addicted to nicotine when I was 11 years old. I tried everything to quit and nothing worked until I came across ecigarettes. I was having breathing problems coughing up blood and barely able to walk without getting out of breath. My teeth were brown and I stunk. Worst of all I knew it was because of smoking and could not stop. I tried the pills which caused me to become depressed and almost kill myself. I tried the patches and the gum and the lozenges. Nothing worked. Then I came across ecigarettes and all of these problems went away.
It has been a miracle. I was able to easily put down traditional cigarettes with their thousands of cancer causing chemicals and not look back.
I understand that there are a lot of problems associated eliquid because of irresponsible people not handling it properly but I do not think that I should be doomed to returning to smoking because of a few irresponsible people. I don't even have any children living with me. Why should I pay for the irresponsibility of others?
Additionally I would like to point out that the people proposing the bill do not sight any reference or confirmed evidence in their proposed legislation. Can you tell me how many of the calls to poison control were just calls from people looking for advice on proper handling or disposal of eliquid? How many of the alleged poisoning cases were actually confirmed as poisoning from nicotine in ejuice? Most ejuice is sold in smaller containers (I have never seen anyone selling a container bigger than 50ml) and is at a dosage of 24 mg/ml or less. a dose of nicotine that is fatal from nicotine poisoning is around 2600 mg. That is more than twice the amount of nicotine contained in a 50ml bottle of 24mg/ml ejuice. If that juice is highly diluted it would indeed not be likely to cause nicotine poisoning even though it has been stated by some that it could. It could cause other medical problems at lesser doses for people with existing conditions but indeed so could energy drinks of caffeine pills and they are not being banned.
I think this is a reactionary piece of legislation. Yes someone did use ejuice to kill themselves by injecting it. People have also used bleach, ammonia, gasoline and prescription drugs to do that as well. People have also called poison control centers in response to intentional and unintentional contact with these substances as well. Where is the legislation to ban them? Yes someone did have problems that allegedly were associated with ejuice contact caused by a shoddily manufactured ecigarette. Why not just propose legislation to require better manufacturing practices or device safeguards. The reason why is because this is truly boils down to financial concerns thinly veiled behind a call for safety. The fact is the bill is designed to enforce the monopoly held by large pharmaceutical companies on smoke cessation products effectively protecting their profit margins and protect the huge financial stakes held by both the NYS government and its politicians in the form of taxes and campaign contributions by lobbyists.
This is political showboating at the expense of the rights and freedoms of the registered voters of New York state and just plain not right. If you effectively outlaw ejuice you are dooming millions of now smoke free people to returning to smoking and the slow painful deaths associated with it.
Please don't let this happen
Sincerely,
Douglas XXXXXX

, New York has such a terrible attitude they even make the world mad.I would just like to point out that there are still only 33 comments published on this... All against it.
I'm starting to suspect that either people have not commented, or they are rejecting any more negatives in the hope that someone will say it's a good thing.
I smoked Senecas for a long time. Loved it when the Seneca girls would come and give out freebies.![]()
Here's the final letter I sent out to just about everyone, in Albany:
April 8, 2014
Dear,
My name is... and I live in Onondaga County.
I'm writing today to let you know, I oppose any bills that would ban sales to adults or apply sin taxes on e-liquid, here in New York State.
I also oppose any bill that would place restrictions on where I vape. I'm no longer a smoker and do not wish to be treated as one.
There's no tobacco or ignition in my e-cigarette, therefore no smoke. Since it’s not a tobacco product, how can the state tax it as such?
A former smoker of 30 years, I tried all traditional methods to quit. None were effective. Through my brother, I found vaping and it saved my life! I'm no longer inhaling tar or countless toxic chemicals into my body with vaping. I feel better and have increased stamina.
Why isn't the state focused on banning cigarettes? They're the proven killers here, not e-liquid. My father, a heavy smoker passed away from lung cancer. I know all too well, the effects of smoking.
The state provides nicotine patches and gum as quitting aids. How is vaping e-liquid any different?
I'm appalled that New York State is suggesting that vaping e-liquid is more harmful than smoking!
My e-liquid contains 4 ingredients: Propylene Glycol, vegetable glycerin, 6mg nicotine and natural flavorings.
I must also note that not all e-liquid contains nicotine.
It has been claimed that small children are attracted to e-liquid because of the flavors, names and colors. None of my e-liquid is artificially colored and all have child-proof lids.
What about window cleaner? They come in pretty colors too. Will the state ban or apply extra taxes on them as well?
Responsible parents, keep e-liquid out of the hands of their children.
If you take away the right to vape or apply additional taxes on e-liquid here in New York State, the consequences will be dire. Shops will be forced to close and people will loose their jobs.
The information outlined in the current proposed bills is outdated, incorrect and frankly, disturbing.
Please, take the time to get the latest information available, about e-liquid and vaping.
Sincerely,
I sent this to Senator Mark GrisantiTo Whom It May Concern in the New York State Senate,
As a New York State and Onondaga County resident, I strongly oppose bill S6939-2013 or any other bill that would ban e-liquid sales, here in New York State.
A former smoker of thirty years, I'm no longer inhaling tar or countless toxic chemicals into my body. After several failed attempts at quitting smoking using traditional methods, vaping has saved my life.
Why isn't the state focused on banning cigarettes? They're the real killers here, not e-liquid.
Numerous people have committed suicide as a direct result from taking Chantex. Also, why is it accceptable for New York state to provide nicotine patches and gum as quitting tools for smokers but vaping nicotine e-liquid, is not.
I must also note that not all e-liquid contains nicotine.
It's unsettling to me that New York state is suggesting what I'm doing now, is more harmful than smoking real cigarettes.
The information outlined in this bill is outdated, incorrect and frankly, disturbing.
In conclusion, I will be contacting my local representive, requesting they vote no on this Senate bill.
Sincerely,
