So, it seems quite a few have recently acquired a ZAP. Yay!

Just wanted to share my experience, as this is my very first rba.

lngJAeQ.jpg

So I followed Zen's video which helped a lot. First thing I noticed is mine came with the coil wrapped 4 times while in the video his is wrapped 5 times. It ohmed out at 2.2ohms.

I lit it up and sure enough the bottom wrap was a little slower than the rest to fire. So I manipulated it a bit and got it even.

Then I tipped it for quite a while to get the wick wet, I never got it to actually "drip" like in the video, but whatev's.

I guess I missed the part where he may have mentioned to dry burn off the wet wick multiple times unless you enjoy inhaling burnt ....:glare:

Once I got that subsided, the next thing I noticed is how quiet this thing vapes. It's hard to gauge how much it's vaping. My carto tanks pop & fizzle the whole draw giving you an idea of how much "work" the coil is doing.

Also, he ain't lying when he says you can increase TH by rotating the air hole. It's "vari" dramatic.

I'm still adjusting to this new delivery, but once I hit the sweet spot, I could tell that this is the cleanest purest flavor I have tasted from my juice.

Any one want to share some tips for a RBA newb, please do.

I love my Zenesis products and have many of them!
I do find that using ss cable can give you an even better cleaner taste after the first two tanks.
You would most likely need to remove the insulator but it works beautifully when it's up and running!

metallic taste is usually a hot spot somewhere on the wick or coil legs or even a short somewhere. looking at the pic i see the top wrap is staying cleaner then the rest of the coil (meaning it is getting hotter). i have never used the ceramic but im guessing it must stay tilted when your hitting on it to avoid the dry hit (which tastes like crap)

genis can be a pain to get going sometimes, once they are finally running perfect they usually stay that way and the setup wll last a long time.

you will know when that coil is finally ok, the vapor will get buttery smooth.

I've been carto tanks almost exclusively, and the noise I was referring to is a good thing. Not flooding or gurgling. Let me clarify, I use Smok Pyrex dual coil tanks 2.0 at 5v. So the sound is the two coils converting juice into pleasure.

Maybe the ZAP should sound the same IDK. Still struggling with it. I may start new with a five wrap.

I think it would be a good idea to repost this in the RBA forum, many more users using ceramic then will come in here and maybe someone else will have a better idea. my limited exposure to ceramics in general and the zap itself leave me guessing. I saw zens video but personally I wrap the coil on the wick out of the atty then put it in and lock it down. and from what i understand the coil needs to be snug on the ceramic.

Preloader,

Right near the end of your vid I see a hot spot between the right terminal and the center post - what's with that. Is it just a reflection?

Oh - you mentioned SS wire in an earlier post. Are you talking about Stainless coil material? If so could you provide a link to where you get it? I am very curious to read about it.

Would someone be able to give me a measurement across the top of the zen/zap (where the drip tip sits)? I would appreciate it! :) I'm trying to figure out how wide the bottom of the drip should be to fit it perfectly.

Ok, so I don't own a micrometer at the moment, but the best I can give you is in 32nds". The top flat is approx. 21/32" or 0.675". The hole is standard 510, and the outside bore of the device is 7/8' or .875.

You may be right about the hot spot. I am having a hard time taming it in that area. But I watch PBus's 40 minute video and if nothing else, learned a lot about patience. I have played with it more while trying not to get frustrated, and did get to experience more frequent quality vapes. Ultimately I want to try my own coil with more wraps..... Maybe 5 or 6 instead of the 4 that came installed.

As far as the SS wire, I can't recall what I may have said, but am not aware of SS coil wire. I may have been speaking about the SS mesh that Zen says is supposed to come pre-rolled with the ZAP, but apparently no longer does.

Ahhhh, here is mention of SS "cable"...... Not sure if that refers to rolled SS mesh or actual coil wire though.

Preloader,

Patience - I tried to look that word up, NO luck ;) I was just pulling one of two flavor wicks out of a Kanger replaceable coil. It seems I waited too long and it was so gunked up that the wicks fell apart. I too watched the ZAP videos so I decided to play with the coil in the Kanger. That like many of my ideas cost me an hour of pure frustration. When I got the gunk off I found two of the coils shorted and decided "I can fix that, I watched the video! Well no one told me that when two coils are bunt together they won't separate easily nor did they tell me that the tiny 32 ga. wire was tougher than my bed springs to move around.... short story it, in pieces, is in the trash never to see my Provari ever again.

I two like higer restance coils 2.5, 2.8 or maybe 3.0 as Provari suggests. Don't know why but I just have a mind set that the less current drawn the better. That is my story and I am sticking to it no matter what the truth is.

On the "SS" wire - I am sure you are right and were talking about SS mesh. When you called SS wire I started thinking that might be cool for a coil (no pun intended) but then I got to thinking you would probably need twelve turn to get above 1.8 Ohms if then. Oh-well most of my thoughts go like that.

PS - I would love to have a ZAP but I can't make myself pull the trigger on atomizer that cost as much as my Provari, at least not yet. When I see that you have mastered yours... well maybe.

Thanks for the reply on the "SS" stuff.

Oh I plan to master it and then help others find enlightenment.

Your Protank story is funny. After watching the Zen video and be fore I got the ZAP..... I too struggled with my PT II. I maybe I'll just work the coil like Zen did in the video on the ZAP. Epic fail that ended in the trash.

Glad to hear I'm not alone with this adventure.

This is why I started a new ZAP thread. In hopes to expand together with other novices. I'll keep the updates coming.

Thanks so much for providing the measurement (with a pic)! :)

No problem.
