Hi all! I'm 48 and have been smoking, well, waaaay too long.

I'm very interested in trying out ecigs. After browsing around the site I'm more confused than ever ;) . Like most newbies I would like to start out with something small. Are all ecigs refilled with a liquid (that you refill yourself) or do some just have cartridge replacements? It's very confusing when you don't have a clue to begin with and then try to figure out all of the abbreviations. Thanks!!

Welcome Coralou! Stick around for a while and do some reading because there really is a ton to learn! Most of the users on this site are using vaporizers that we refill our selves with liquid that we either buy or DIY, but there are some that have cartridge replacements which are usually much more expensive.

I always recommend to friends and family an MVP2 starter kit because it has excellent quality and is not something that is good for just the first month, but something that will stay with you for at least a year and maybe longer before you decide to upgrade.

Welcome aboard, stay a while.

I would also recommend something like the MVP2. But the first step is just starting, no matter how cheaply you start, so even a simple blister starter pack would be enough. Check out the Forum Suppliers Section and of course you already posted this in the New Members Forum which has lots of good info.

Hello and welcome
do you have a vape shop around you? Is yes I highly recommend you go there and ask for this setup or somthing very similar,
Innokin ce4 disposable clearomizer and a joyetech ego c 650 mah battery is an awsome setup from somone just walking into the vape world
please dontlet anyone talk you into spending 100 bucks or more start cheap and simple and work your way up unless you are a fast learner
keep it simple stupid is the motto and this is a simple and cheap setup that is under 50 bucks and will satisfy you for now
goodluck

Welcome Coralou!

I just started with e-cigs as well I got the e-smart I think it's a good starter a little more advanced than your cartridge e-cigs yet not too big and oblivious... They are also not too expensive, you need to change the clearomizer every now n then, and buy your e-juices but I think this is a lot more fun and it's really easy to do! I think it's better to start with something like this mid priced and grow !

Boy I hate agreeing with everyone else (lol) but get the MVP2 kit. It comes with a tank, so all you will need is some juice to get started.
For juice go to a local vape shop. Most have a vape bar where you can sample juice before you buy. Once you've found a juice you like buy a small bottle to begin with. I find some flavors, I get tired of pretty quickly. Have the folks at the shop show you how to fill and get your tank primed.
Vaping ain't smokin'. Long smooth draws. Give the wick a few seconds between draws to recover some juice.
Burnt tastin vapor is normally caused by dry wicks or too high a voltage/wattage setting.

Really I wouldn't buy gear at a vape shop if you don't have much funds. It is usually cheaper to buy online. Liquid is usually about the same.

So an MVP2 is what I would recommend also. You might as well do it right the first time and not have to buy anything else for awhile.

An MVP2 is a box mod vaporizer and it has great battery life. You can adjust the voltage or wattage on the device for more power to your atomizer. ( which is just a coil made with kanthal wire. And some kind of wicking material to soak up the e liquid). Now highering voltage/wattage will produce more vapor anf make the vape warmer as you go up. Also the flavor might get better. The key is when you get one to mess around with the voltage pr wattage and find what you like.

Usually the mvp 2 kit comes with a tank that you put liquid in then vape away. I believe it's an I clear 30 or something. And honestly those work pretty decent except they have a really tight draw. But I would say try that tank first and see if you like it.

Also you're going to need some juice. There are a lot of cheaper e liquid sites out there. Mt baker vapor is a popular one with a lot to choose from. So you will need to figure out what kind of flavor you will like. Then there's the nicotine lvl now depending on how much you smoked you may need a higher or lower nicotine lvl.

Now juice (or e liquid) is mixed with flavoring, propylene glycol (PG), vegetable glycerin (VG), and nicotine. Some people have problems with vg and some with pg. You just gotta find out for yourself by trying different mixtures such as 50pg/50vg or mix it up a bit but I suggest starting at a 50pg/50vg and see how it goes from there. How it goes is pg carrys flavor and more of a throat hit. (Throat hit is that harsh feeling when you inhale something). And vg produces more vapor and is smoother.

I know I'm all over the place. I'm not good at writing long responses and keeping them organized. Lol.

But if you have any questions feel free to message me on here or we can keep talking here.

Hope some of this made sense.

Hello and welcome to the forum. Glad to have you here!:)

If you are interested in learning more about e-cigarettes (and all the parts and pieces) below are some blog posts by ECF member Baditude that I highly recommend for someone new to vaping and/or looking to upgrade.

1. A Good Starter's Setup for a Beginning Vapor
2. Advancing Up the Vaping Ladder with Egos and Mods
3. Proper terminology - Is it a carto, a tank, or what? A Guide to Juice Attachments.
4. Something Safe for Cinnamon and Citrus Flavors

Now for some possible options for you to consider:

1. JoyeTech Ego-C Twist
2. Vision Spinner
3. Innokin iTaste vv v3
4. Innokin iTaste MVP v2

The first 3 are fall into the "ego style" category of battery. They range in size from 600mah to 1300mah. The higher the mah the longer the battery will last between charging. The 4th one is a step up from an "ego style" battery in that it is a smaller box mod with a very big battery (2600mah). It will last many vapers a whole day before it needs recharging. It is probably one of the most popular batteries for someone upgrading from an "ego style" battery. Some vapers choose to buy one "ego style" battery as a backup and also purchase the MVP for their main battery.

You will need to purchase a tank (the juice attachment) with the first three on the above list. The mini Nautillus, mini Aerotank or regular size Aerotank (all made of glass) are very popular. The MVP comes with a tank but it is not glass.

Read all the links, google some of the batteries, and once you have narrowed down the field, we will be able to give you recommendations for websites where you can purchase products (if you don't have a vape shop nearby).
