Newb here, battery and coil question...

I am new to this forum and have searched through the archives but don't think I'm finding the exact answer to my question, maybe I'm missing something? I bought a system 2 weeks ago. Protank 2 with an Ego Twist battery. Today, the system had a horrible taste, like I burnt the wrong end of a cigarette. I put the battery on a different tank and got the same taste and put the tank on a different battery and got the same taste. Did I burn out both parts of my unit? The Kanger Protank has a 2.5 coil and the Ego Twist goes from 3.2 (I think) to 4.8. I know the Protank is best suited for 4.1, so rarely but it above there. I'm going to replace the system, but don't want this to happen again. What didi I do? Did I blow out the coils and the battery at the same time?

Try turning the voltage down on the twist. Start at the lowest and see what the flavor is like going up a notch at a time. If it was the same flavor in each tank it may have been to high of a voltage for the flavor.

If it was not the same flavor clean your tanks, fill and allow to prime or wick and give it a go at the lowest setting.

If none of the above works - all you need are new heads for your PT.

2 weeks is enough time to get your atomisers collect residue. I dont know protank but I am sure you will get enough information from the forum. Meanwhile look at the forum/youtube how to clean your atomiser and dry burn. Also you had better get new atomisers and learn how to change coil.
If you apply high volts to an empty clearo you burn the residue and bad taste comes from this. Your battery has nothing to do with taste except applying high voltage.

We're both of the tanks in use? I mean, had you been using both of them regularly? namackan is right that two weeks is enough time to gunk up coils.

With the protanks, you don't have to replace the whole tank (wasn't clear from your post if you knew that), you just need to replace coil heads.

You can greatly extend the life of coil heads by cleaning them. A quick and easy clean is to soak (an hour or overnight) or leave them under running water for a minute. A more thorough cleaning is dry burning. There are lots of threads on how to dry burn a protank head, so search for that info. Further along in your vaping adventure, you can even learn to build new coils for the protank to keep them 'like new' indefinitely. That's probably something to think about at a later date.

Definitely have replacement coils available. They are not expensive. Here's an inexpensive and reliable seller: Kanger ProTank & Evod Coil Replacement - 5 Pack 2.5 ohms

So, try cleaning and buy a pack or two of replacement heads. 2 weeks is a decent amount of time to get from a coil, especially without cleaning.

Oh, and the battery probably doesn't have anything to do with the taste, unless it got turned up accidentally or if the voltage isn't regulated correctly. Once a coil head gets burned the taste will linger unless it's well cleaned, and the taste can sometimes linger in the juice left in the tank.

Sounds like you overheated both coils, locate and purchase new coil assemblies, replace the old ones with new, pre wet the new ones fill your tanks let them sit a while ( 5-10 min) start low on the voltage setting and work your way back up to a point of best flavor. In the mean time, pull the old coils and soak in vodka/everclear overnite. Let them dry and try it again, wont be as nasty tasting but not like a new coil.
