New guy from PA here, trying to get my posts up/get to know folks. So here is my vaping history.
I started with Smoketip about a year ago and was off analogs with them for a little over a month. The batteries went bad on me (I had 6, 4 new ones and only 1 worked) so I got back to rolling my own tobacco again. I tried several different brands of e-cigs but none really worked for me. I recently decided to try Smoketip again. Got new batteries and ordered some cartridges and then, the day I recieved my cartridges a couple friends of mine at work showed me thier new Johnson Creek Vea and made me realize that there was more to vaping than the cigarete-like ecigs.
So, I decided to try refilling my already used cartridges and bought some sample bottles from Freedomsmokeusa.com. I didn't really like those so I started looking online and found these forums. HOLY CRAP you guys have opened my eyes. There is almost too much information here. I have learned alot in one day of lurking and a couple hours as a registered user.

And now that you know where I am coming from I have a question. What is a good mid sized system that will allow me to upgrade easily, try out dripping, tanks and maybe even build my own wick and coil later on? Will the much touted ego work for me? Does it allow future upgrading easily? If not, then what do you guys suggest?

Depends on what you mean by mid sized.

If you still want something a bit smaller. The ego-twist batteries are nice and are threaded for both ego and 510 so you can put nearly anything on them.

If you want to go bigger than that it sort of depends on your budget and how complicated you want to go. Vamo comes in at $40-60 + batteries and a charger and is VV/VW. Provari is another well liked device that is VV but comes in at about $200. You can find everything in between and even more expensive.

VV= Variable voltage
VW= Variable Wattage

The twist is VV also but not nearly as wide a range.

Both VV and VW let you tailor how much power the battery is applying to the carto/tank/clearo you have screwed onto it to get the vape YOU like. In short it is a more customizable experience.

Somewhere out there
Welcome!! There is much out there now to choose from. Ego's are great portable's but they are not a higher end Variable Volt PV that takes replaceable batteries. So you need to decide if you want to play around with delivery systems first (cartos, clearos, tanks) and see what you like, then upgrade later to a better battery system with VV. Have fun in your search! bnrk

If you are already considering Rebuildable Atomizers at some point, consider a Provari if you have lots of money, or maybe a Vamo. I just ordered the vamo after a lot of research. They are compatible with 510 stuff so you can try the t3s, Vivis, boge cartos, etc. then when you want to go to RBAs, all you'll need is a $5 pheonix to get started, or jump straight to an RSST, AGAT+, IGOL, etc.

You'll save in the long run by skipping the ego stuff, that is, IF you are interested in the RBA route.

But if you get a Vamo, do research on the type of batts (un-protected, high drain and by a known brand like efset, AW, Panasonic etc.) and charger (heard good stuff about the xtar and just ordered the xtar wp2).

Thank you both for the replies!
What I mean by mid sized is something that will fit in my pocket. I move around alot and am in a vehicle alot, so I need something extremely portable, both in size and in durability.
I guess that for what I am wanting later on, I should go with a VV/VW system first instead of having to buy everything over again after I change batteries.

Edited: (mrcoolbp answered my vamo question, should have waited to post!)

I only recommend that if you like messing around with stuff to find your sweet spot. The Ego style would be more portable, but I recommended the mods as you already seemed interested in moving towards the super tinkery RBA stuff. I would have save a few hundred if I skipped the ego-sized step. Nothing wrong with that stuff, it just seemed more expensive to me in the long run unless your rebuilding, and left me wanting more.

If your financial resources can afford it, go straight for the Provari. It's a very durable mod that will give you a consistant, reliable, vape for years to come. The manufacturer will service it even after warranty, which no Chinese manufacturer can offer you. It is available in two sizes, and both have a battery extension cap available as an accessory for a longer lasting battery. The Mini's default battery will last 7 - 8 hours, the Regular Provari with extension cap will last 22 hours. Built in atomizer meter and battery meter.

The vamo is by far the best deal for the money, it has native 510 connection so you can try a wide variety of tanks, clearos, rba's etc.
It does everything and more than other higher priced devices.
you can use it in mini mode with a 18350 battery or full mode with 18650.
If you're getting a vamo, i recommend you get the device only in stainless steel (chrome/black chrome tends to fade out and are very slippery) and get quality batteries and charger elsewhere.

ok I am going to be honest here. I skipped the cigalike stage and jumped right in with a 2 battery ego-C setup. I regret not getting the twists out of the box. ABout the same size as the Cs but more flexibility. Put CE5 clearomizers on them (or a protank or vivi nova) and they are a great portable setup. BUT you will still end up carrying both unless you are charging in your car. My 2 C batteries last me about half a day each.

I Just upgraded to the Vamo and LOVE it. One huge advantage is I can use a big battery that lasts all day. ALso because the batteries are changeable I don't have to toss the device when it wont charge anymore. for size in its longest mode it is about 5.5 inches long. In shorty mode with smaller batteries it is about4.25 inches long. It is about 3/4 inch in diameter. So Although it is bigger than the egos it isnt all THAT much bigger.

I have been Vaping for over a year now and have tried many ecigs,atomizers,clearomizers and such and my favorite always go to is the EGO Twist,because i can change the voltage and its plenty for me and what i need it for it come in different Mah sizes and easy to carry,as far as atomizers i like the Vivi Nova 3.5ml tank it last for several hours once filled up and the coils are replaceable,also the bottom coil Evod is another clearomizer i like and it also has replacement coils. and if you want something smaller than the Vivi Nova I also like the Vision Nano clearomizer it holds about 1ml liquid maybe little more.but they also give me Great Vapor,Great Throat hit and flavor,any of the three i have listed I use and like there performance and they will not break the bank either so to speak and all work on the Ego Twist battery which comes in variety of colors and sizes for whatever your like or needs are. Hope this info helps. As far as vendors go, just about any ecig vendor carries all these items some prices may vary from one to another vendor but look around I think you will find any of these items easily and affordable.:vapor:

Quality Panasonic batteries for the VAMO can be had for $10 a pair. Charger is $10. Done.

The VAMO is the best value you can get in a big APV to be honest. A very nice deal can be found here http://.........blogspot.com/2013/03/in-stock-chrome-vamo-deal-3697.html

Two more things:
- if you spend a lot of time in your car, why not get a car charger and a passthrough? In case you dont know, a passthrough is a battery that is plugged directly into the charger while youre using it, so youll never run out of power. A quality PT that has VV can be found here http://.........blogspot.com/2013/04/a-must-ego-v-aka-kgo-vv-ego-passthrough.html

- i forgot the second thing.

Alright, first thing, thank you for the fast and detailed responses!!
After looking at everything you guys have showed me, and doing my own research on your suggestions, I have just orderd the kgo from hoosierecigs along with a kanger T3 and a Evo Vision Clearomizer to try out. I have also been put on a waiting list for the Vamo. Hopefully I can throw another 60 bucks at it when they come in, if not ill get it sometime soon.
Ill post a small review when they all come in and I can try them out.

I think exhalevapor has the vamo kit in stock for 59.95 good vendor good deal. You can get the kit from vapor break for 49.95 but china you know. And the wait. They will take care of you at exhale its worth the extra ten for the piece of mind.
Thanks. While looking for vape stores in my area I came across one fairly close to me. They have the Vamo for right at 55 dollars. So I will probably get it there with my next paycheck. Right now I think the kgo will suit me fine while I get used to new juices and clear tanks and stuff.
