usually a mix of both ceramic and electrolytic are the best at filtering noise. Since your more then likey going to be powering the regulator straight off a battery it doesn't matter much, since batteries don't produce a lot of noise. If you were powering the regulator off a wall adapter then you would have to worry more about filtering noise out of the supply voltage. We also just power atomizers that noise has little effect on. If we were powering a logic circuit or other IC chips off the regulator filtering the noise is much more a priority. Too much noise can cause IC chip to not function properly or not function at all.

thanks for the great info Java. Breaktru the first mod that im going to attempt to make is the evercool(mamu's box mod) for myself which is a switching regulator to my understanding. Then i would like to try and make the fistpack but housed in something else for my g/f, i know she doesnt want to mess with a pot to dial it in so... and to my understanding thats a booster/buck DC-DC converter?

The Evercool is actually a BigBlue30 creation using the PTR08100W regulator... http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/battery-mods/114901-evercool-variable-voltage-mod.html ...Mamu has several box mods using the OKR-T/6 regulators....and yes both are switching regulators. You can run them at a fixed voltage or with a pot...but if she doesnt like the pot maybe a slide switch with a few different fixed voltages. If your not going to stack two batteries you will need a boost converter like the PTN04050C for a VV.
