NewB whose an old smoker

This is my first post and I'd love some help. I've been smoking for over 50 years and I'm sick and tired of smelling like an old ash tray, freezing outside (I don't smoke in my houe or in my car), and being looked at like a leper. I bought Blu Premium 100's starter pack and also the Blu white starter pack (because I like the look of the old cigarettes.......old habits are hard to break.) I started out with the medium nic and found it was too weak, so now I'm on high nic (16 mg.) I still find that I am slipping back to analogs 4 or 5 times a day and really want to get totally off the darn things. Any advice on what cartos fit my Blu batteries? I really don't want to have to fill my own cartos (heck, I'm almost 70 years old and don't want to start my own lab.) Also any batteries with longer life that fit my Blu cartos? I like the look and feel of the Blu ecigs but would love more vapor. I am overwhelmed by the volume and diversity of products! Your comments and suggestions would be most welcome! Thanks!

Welcome to the forums, congrats on trying to make the switch.

I would recommend a evod starter kit for new people to vaping. It works good and coils are easy to change.

Kanger Evod Starter Kit

Look around you can find these kits possibly through a local shop near you as well.

Hope you can drop the analogs completely soon.

Welcome...I'll second the Kanger mentioned above! Very nice, simple, reliable...I take them to work every day... and yes the amount of equipment out now is amazing. Then find a basic reliable juice supplier and order a sample pack of liquids, you'll often be able to choose a nicotine level (though not always with the sample packs), or pick out a few flavors that look interesting to you. I believe Mount Baker Vapor liquids are a good place to start out, for example. Do keep asking questions here, folks are very helpful! Best of luck to you!

I'm a 61 year old 40+ year ex-smoker (3 packs a day). Like you, I started with a cig-sized setup as I was sure that was what I wanted. I used it for about 3 months before I started getting progressively larger batteries and clearomizers. I used Volts by Smokeless Image and used both their pre-filled cartos and filled my own. I found that I needed higher nicotine levels at 24mg to satisfy me, and did not start dropping until about 3-4 months in.

The Blu I believe uses 510 cartos while the Volts use 808 threaded cartos...so the two are not really compatible. I'm sorry I'm not sure where to get pre-filled 510 cartos, but I'm sure they exist. I have seen them around somewhere.

IMHO, you should really start filling your own cartos...if I can do it, anyone can. Yes, I can only do it while wearing my reading glasses. A typical carto can be filled 5-10 times so you would save a lot of headaches trying to keep pre-filled on hand.

The Evods that others are recommending are really good...I recently started using them, although with my old eyes, I find them a little harder to refill, but not so hard that I'm going to stop using them. As long as I can find my glasses (and I usually have a pair at almost anyplace in the house) I can get it done.

16 nic might be kinda weak and why you are slipping back. i would run at least 24mg if you are a heavy smoker (kinda assuming since you are 50 years plus you might be). i smoked half a pack a day for a year and 24 is right for me. they also make up to 36mg. dont get too much nicotine tho haha. some people dont like it. supposedly makes a harsher throat hit. i havent switched completely either. but i figure using a higher nicotine amount will help keep you off those 4 or 5 a day. also remember to take 4 to 5 second drags. its not exactly like smoking a cigarette. we are all learning here. welcome to the world of vaping!

I too recommend the Kanger Evod kit for you. It is a very reliable and easy to use and refill. The learning curve is very short and the flavor and the vapor will be very satisfying psychologically for you coming off of analogs. Read the stickies on the new member forum lots of valuable information to give you a basis for the whole e cigarette experience. Then browse through different posts and you be fine.

Sonia719, Congrats on working to get off the smokes! :toast:

I fear that at some point (probably sooner, rather than later) you are going to want to step up from your Blu. Hate to start making recommendations that are going to start costing you more money, right off the bat. But it is what it is and the Blu, though a step in the right direction, is most likely not going to cut it for you.

The Kanger kit is a great way to move into something that has a better chance of keeping you from back-sliding to smoking again. You really should consider moving up to something a bit more satisfactory. Have to agree with Scotticus93, in that 16mg nicotine may be too low to keep the cravings away.. 18mg-24mg might be a whole lot more helpful to you.

Best of luck and ECF has a lot of kind, helpful and knowledgeable people always ready to answer any questions you have and steer you in the right direction. Never be hesitant to ask for opinions... we have lots of them.

Welcome to the forum and good luck on giving up on the tobacco. I started out with the Blu cigs and they helped me stop using tobacco, but I really did not like them and was not satisfied. I went with Kanger Ego batteries and the Kanger T2 tanks and feel in love with them.
I have a friend who smoked for 50 plus years and I got him to try the Kanger products and he was off the tobacco in one week. That was 5 months ago and he is doing great with his vaping and not using any tobacco. He says he hates the smell of it or anyone using it now.
I would suggest you go to a local vape shop and sample the different flavors to find a couple that you really like. They have ones that taste like real tobacco, fruits, candy, sweet deserts, etc.
Feel free to ask any question you may have, as we have all been where you are now and are willing to help anyway we can.

Welcome - and congratulations on trying to kick a 50 year habit! I recently broke an almost 40 year habit, and I also started on Blu. Last week I bought the Halo Triton starter kit - I think it's very similar to the one discussed above. I found I went down from 16mg to 12mg almost immediately because of the increased vapor production etc. The one thing I did differently was buying the smallest battery (400) and the next size up (650) because I really liked the discrete size. I find these are fine for me and last much, much longer than the Blu batteries. Whatever you decide to do, be prepared to discover a whole new world of flavors - it's hard to believe that we were happy with one flavor for all those years!
