Hi,
First post from me. I've lurked here for a while since deciding to try e-cigarettes, that led to me choosing to bypass the lookalikes and go for a torpedo tank. After some practice it seems to be working for me and I managed 2 nights of drinking without a cigarette at the weekend - which is mission accomplished for me. I'm a part time smoker and have been for over 20 years, just nicotine with beer.

The downside is that I seem to have what feels like a smokers cough for the first time in years. Is this a common experience, could it just relate to the liquid I'm using, could it just be my throat adjusting to a different form of abuse? It could just be that I'm overusing it too, I've been used to smoking outside (banished by my SO at home & local laws re Bars) but all of a sudden I can take a puff whenever I feel like it. Could ofc be a mere coincidence too.

Any helpful feedback much appreciated :)

Most of us went through something very similar. Soar throats, coughs, allergic reactions, you name it. For me, I found out I can't vape 100% PG for more than a few draws...I itch really bad.

Some of your ailments could be, as you stated, getting used to different kind of ingredients that you are inhaling.

If it persists, try vaping all VG juices (or PG since I don't know what you have) and see if the change in juice makes a difference. Nicotine being too high can also be a factor in this but usually you will get a headache, upset stomach, and dizzy.

I hope it works out for you so please do some experimenting to see if your problems calm down.

Happy vaping.

i coughed my head off when i first got my starter kit. i'm assuming it was all PG. once i got some 50/50 & 70/30 juices, i was fine though. :)

it can also make you feel like you can't breathe.

plus, once you quit smoking, i think your lungs want to cough all the krud out.

after 5 or 6 days of zero cigarettes, my lungs feel great! i don't wheeze when i'm laying in bed anymore, & i don't cough all day long anymore. it rocks. when i tried to quit on the patch a few years ago, i didn't feel this good after the same amount of time. maybe if i had, i could've stuck with it, i don't know.

The "smoker's cough" is common when you first make the switch. The same thing happens if you quit smoking by other means, too because your lungs are clearing out all of the tar and built up gunk from smoking. It's a good thing and it'll go away after a few days or so. Once it stops you'll probably notice that it's a lot easier to breathe and you can take deeper breaths.

Make sure you're drinking plenty of water and keeping yourself hydrated!

Thanks for the reassurance folks. I guess I need a little enlightening though - what is VG & PG? I spent a lot of time looking at the delivery methods but none at the liquids. Also finding this forum doesnt seem to like Mozilla much, had to open up IE to see your replies for some reason.

PG is propylene glycol - It helps with throat hit and it is thiner.
VG is vegetable glycerin - It gives the vapor and is thicker.

For some reason people have a tendency to be more sensitive to PG than to VG, so you can try a mix of the two. If you still find irritation, you can try pure VG. Or the other way around.
