Hey Maverick, welcome, and you will love it here, even more than a club, it's like one big vaping family and congrats on joining us, it is an awesome and life enhancing choice! Someone already said it, but though most of us probably started out with a cig-a-like PV, we soon grew tired of the limits and stepped up to something with better performance. At first for me it was important that it looked like a cig, acted like a cig, you get the idea. Some people continue to be happy with it, especially if they weren't a heavy smoker. But since vaping is different from smoking, most people tend to vape more than they smoked, priorities change. Since you can control just about every aspect of your vaping, including the amount of nicotine you consume, vaping becomes more than a habit, more like a hobby, you'll see! Anyway, everything that was so important to me in the beginning quickly changed. That little automatic battery had to be recharged more than it was used, the automatic battery limited my choices of cartomizers etc, because if they leak into the battery it's kaput, I had to pull on it so hard to get a decent vape I was getting muscles in my cheeks, and on and on. I knew I wanted a bigger battery, a manual battery, and options, so after asking here and doing my homework, for me an Ego, or another Ego clone seemed like the logical choice. With limited funds, it is also an economical choice, especially because I spend a lot of time at the computer, I opted for a pass-through instead of a full kit. A pass-through allows you to vape while your PV is charging, so it is never out of commission. And if you need to leave and take it with you, chances are it is already fully charged and good to go, just unplug it from the USB connector! Hassle free as can be. Plus, with it's 510 connections it gave me a huge range of options for accessories and the like. I don't even know if it comes with an automatic battery option, but if it does, avoid it! Although it may seem like a pain to have to press the little button every time you vape, you will quickly find it allows you better control of your inhalations, plus as I said, a leak from a cartomizer won't kill your battery. (To me it was kind of the equivalent of learning to drive a standard shift... once you are used to it, driving an automatic seems lame.) Also, you will soon find the cigar sized battery is not an issue at all. In fact, most experienced vapers don't want their PV to resemble a cig in any way. Once you make the break you are a lot more likely to appreciate vaping for what it is instead of limiting yourself to what smoking was. It is a whole different animal, a much improved one too, so try to avoid trying to make it fit the limits of smoking...it is waaaay better. Not only health wise, but all around. Trying out different juices is fun, but it can get real pricey too. A lot of us eventually DIY... meaning mix our own, which becomes a fun hobby in itself and a great way to experiment without going broke. I get ribbed all the time about my "Laboratory" (la-bhoor- a- tory) of flavors, bases, syringes, nicotine, glassware and other assorted devices for mixing up new and wonderful flavors! There are quite a few free programs out there to assist you with the measurements and help you keep a record of your best concoctions too, so you can reproduce them at will. I especially like the fact that I can control the amount of nic I use, and can make different strengths for varying needs. But I'm getting ahead of things! Right now while you are starting out, do try out different strength liquids and representatives of different flavors, because you never really know what you will enjoy until you try it. Plus your tastes often change the longer you don't smoke as your taste-buds regain their ability to function. There can be a steep learning curve to all of it that intimidates some people in the beginning, but you learn as you go, one question at a time, someone here will always try to clarify it for you. If you keep it fairly simple in the beginning, you can always move up as you get more knowledge and experience. Batteries only last so long, and since a PV is basically a battery with a connector, sometimes replacing them means looking for something new, or bigger or better...if you feel the desire or need, the point being, no choice is permanent. Whatever works for you is what it's all about. Sorry about the giant ramble, but it is really exciting to share enthusiasm with someone just starting out! Good luck and congrats! Happy vaping!
