Hi all,

Many thanks for all of the responses, and my apologies I took so long in responding. I'll try to respond to all of the helpful comments:

Nic: I chain-snusED 8mg nic Swedish snus (the REAL snus) like it was nobody's business when I was addicted. I used 12mg snuses when I wanted to fly. When I got the invisaligns, the desire to snus dropped precipitously. I have surmised that it was having the braces in my mouth that replaced the sensation of having the snus in my mouth. Tolerance to nic has also dropped - an 8mg is too much after 15 minutes now. That being said, what strength of juice would you recommend?

Throat-hit: this is reversed for me. Because I never smoked cigs, a good TH (ala Marlboro Reds) is uncomfortable and bad for me.

device: On my snus forum, there is a thread about ecigs. They strongly recommended the Joytech series, but after researching a bit, I found that the Vision series is strongly recommended. I have also heard that the iclear dualcoil, stardust, kanger t3, and vv nova, are recommended. The Kanger evod is well reviewed as well, because it's bottom coiled and doesn't risk breaking.

In terms of the battery I have no clue.:confused: I have heard that Ego batteries (the Ego twist) are good. For voltage, or whether you can screw one part into another, I am 100% ignorant.

ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED THANKS SO MUCH!!!

First and foremost, and from a newb to another, Welcome.

I'd say look into a starter set for eGo type e-cigs. The brands you mentioned are the most widely accepted, and that will be a good starting point if you start going full throttle.

Definitely look into the forums on here. Come of your questions can be answered if you can search through the forums. I'm a 20+ year, 1 to 1 1/2 pack a day smoker, so the craving of the nicotine is bad. . .but the transistion to e-cigs was easier than your specific transition from smokeless.

Snus / 'chew" is no joke though, and crossing over to e-cig maybe the wrong route to go, but it can't hurt to see if your body can take the cravings, and it will accept the nicotine in this form. Just don't get frustrated/overwhelmed by all the information here. There's more than enough people who are/were in your situation who can help/support you through this transistion.

Best of luck to you.

Hi Czech!

I like variable voltage batteries and use them with different heads; I like Kanger T3, eVod (bottom coil), and T2 (top coil). They are very easy to use and they come with changeable coils, so when one gets dirty, you can just replace it. This kit is customizable, which a very nice feature. I recommend you get one Spinner, one Twist (you may want one lrage and one smaller battery). And get some extra coils.

This is the kit that is widely recommended here, and even if you decide not to get from this vendor, it will give you an idea of what to look for. This kit has all the good stuff. :)

We do have a snus subforum here, if you're interested. 12 mg snus??? You're a brave man. I can only do mini white portions. ;)

Smokeless tobacco

Good luck!

Thanks very much. I'll snoop around.

Yeah, snus users are among the most nic addicted. That is why I am not so scared of the nicotine delivered by ecigs...

Hello and welcome! Great advice from Katya. I have the twist with a Kanger T2 and love it! I just ordered some T3's and looking forward to trying them. For juice I would recommend Mt. Baker Vapor, they offer good juice at reasonable prices so you can experiment without destroying your budget.
Good luck, I hope vaping works for you!

Hi all,

Throat-hit: this is reversed for me. Because I never smoked cigs, a good TH (ala Marlboro Reds) is uncomfortable and bad for me.

It's always hard to say about nic levels given everybody is different. And I don't know the absorption rates to do a comparison. If your tolerance seems low, you may want to try the lower end of the range for vapor liquids which is roughly 6 to 12 mg (or there abouts, "low" means different things to different vendors). But you'll have to experiment to find what works for you.

(Also, some vendors note the nic level with percentages. It's an easy "conversion" in that 12mg is 1.2% or 6mg is 0.6%... just moved the decimal.)

Throat hit has a lot to do with the base liquids. There are two: PG and VG. The more PG, the more throat hit. The more VG, the less throat hit (but more vapor). You might want to try 100% VG. I, myself, like vapor more than throat hit so tend to prefer liquids with more (or completely made of) VG. One vendor I like is Johnson Creek. Their "Red Oak" line is PG free. My "all day vapes" come from them. I always preferred a "smooth" smoke over throat hit.

Joyetech and Vision are both good and both popular. The big difference I see mentioned are with the variable voltage models. The Vision has a different knob. The Vision knob is knurled and maybe a bit easier to turn. Maybe the voltage markings are a little different? I'm using a Twist and I don't have a problem. I don't bother finding exact voltage levels, I just adjust until I like the vapor. :)

I've come to think of variable voltage as a "must" now. Wish I'd started with it. Liquids vary and being able to adjust the voltage can make a difference. But whether you get a Joyetech Twist or Vision Spinner seems to be a matter of taste or personal preference. Everything I've seen here, they both have good reputations. I suspect you'd be fine with either.

The tanks, I dunno. I use cartomizers. Though I was thinking of giving a Stardust a whirl. Right now, though, I like switching flavors often so I have several cartos going at a time. But the ones you mention are ones I see folks recommending all the time. A lot is going to come down to you'll have to try a system and see if it works for you.

In terms of the battery I have no clue.:confused: I have heard that Ego batteries (the Ego twist) are good. For voltage, or whether you can screw one part into another, I am 100% ignorant.

One place to start is the Library here. Especially this article: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/ecf-library/36180-wonderful-world-vaping-illustrated-guide-e-cigs-part-1-6-a.html.

EGo, by the way, is a style, not a brand. Lot of companies make eGo style batteries. One thing I had to learn right off in the world of vaping is the whole thing about the threading. That is, the screw threads that you attach one thing to another. An eGo style battery has two threads actually. Can't find a good image (should though) but the "eGo threads" are on the outside of the end and are bigger, the inner threads are 510 which is a very, very common standard (lots of widgets come in 510 threading).

Anyway... far as what you attach to what, unless you want to get into something complicated (heh, don't :) ), the systems folks are recommending are pretty straight forward. Like the Stardust (and some others mentioned) are basically little "tanks". The Stardust looks like this:

stardust.jpg

You pour in the juice, screw it on the battery, and off you go.

Cartomizers are pretty simple but filling them can be a bit of a pain. They're pretty simple devices too. Look like this:

cartomizer-1a.jpg

They have a... filling stuff the name of which escapes me right now that's kind of cottony looking and absorbs and holds the juice. A heater element inside to vaporize it.

Not hard to fill but a bit more tedious than the tank like set ups. But they're cheap. And since I'm still new enough that I'm sampling different liquids, I'm sticking with them. I have about a dozen set up right now.

(Yeesh. Can anybody tell I did tech writing for years? What's next? Step by step lists? Call outs? I know I need a copy editor definitely. :) )

They take a bit more effort and it can be a little messy to deal with them but I like that they're cheap and I can try lots of samples and if I just don't like the juice, meh, I lost a buck sixty in a carto at worst (getting a juice outta the carto... stuffing stuff is pretty much a lost cause).

Anyway... the kit Katya recommended looks pretty cool to me. The kind of thing I wish I'd got my first (and second!) time out. Me, I'd get the 1000 mAh batteries. I have one that capacity but a Twist and it's roughly Sharpie sized but still quite light. Lasts for hours. I'm getting, oh, six or seven hours per charge doing a lot of vaping at the higher end of the voltage scale. Getting a second one (on its way now).

Okay, I'll go hush up now. :)

(Me, long winded? Why do you ask?)

Hey, while you're here, lemme ask...

So I have a Twist with another on the way and liking it very much. But kicking around trying one of the tanky like widgets (currently on Boge cartos and liking them). What have I seen you say about the Vision Stardust clear? The local shop has them and I almost got one but I think I remember maybe something iffy about them? Not sure, so much info flies by here, I may be getting something confused. I'm good at confused. In fact, so often confused, I find it rather comforting now...

Just my very personal opinion--please don't bash me people--not worth it. I've never had any luck with the CE4 (CE3 and CE2) heads. Others like them. If you have 5 bucks to spare, give them a try, especially if those are the new ones, with changeable coils--maybe they improved the design. But if they are the old kind, one piece, don't bother.

Hm... I take it the subject is debated?

Well, I'm in no rush. With the Twist and cartos, I'm pretty settled. The Twist is working out great and I got the 1000mAh so it goes for at least a good six hours easy. Started thinking about clearos and such as I find liquids I can "all day" with. Right now, I'm dripping a little in the carto here and there to keep it wet. Which is a bit annoying. Not terribly but a tank like widget would make sense.

Thanks so much!

Glad my rattling on was helpful. Heh, force of habit. Years of doing "how to" type books, I wanna fall into a kind of, "Step 1" kinda thing. And bullet lists! Yeah! Lots of bullet lists!

(Is there a "maniacal grin" emoticon?)
