Hey all!

When you are making DIY liquid, what kind/type of flavorings are you using? What are you looking for in the flavoring? I have found tons of websites that sell flavorings of all types, but what about them makes them safe for our use? Do we have to buy flavorings that are exclusively for vaping?

I'm more interested in the science/reasoning behind it than I am for my own DIY application. Thanks!

Food grade is a must.

No oils.
Preferably no artificial colors, but a few of mine do have colors.
PG or VG and water based (some are alcohol based and, that's fine but, those need to be allowed a few hours uncapped to breath in the final mix.)
I prefer 2x or 4x concentrates, takes less of them and, a little goes a long way - saves money but, you can use any that don't have oils in them.

Thank you both.

So, water soluble will denote water-based, I would assume? (Since oil doesn't mix with water.) And, no colors. Well, that's easy enough.

My question stems from learning about how what we vape is made from. I may get into DIY eventually, but it seems a little too involved for me right now. Searching flavorings today, I wasn't seeing much difference in the companies that were selling on the vaping front than those who were selling on the regular restaurant/food service front. This is what I needed to know. And now I know. :)

If your unsure about it, just buy from Wizard Labs, all the flavorings they sell are safe.

Russ.
 there are lots of vendors out there

but for diy I know a lot of folks that go to stores and by flavorings as well...food grade is what you are looking for

as for oils, I use clove oil because it's the only thing for me so far that gives me that real clove taste and tingle that I'm looking for...just make sure the oil states it can be ingested...there's a lot of debate over oils...I wouldn't suggest it but to each their own and with oil to me it gives a perfume like taste and can easily overpower all other flavors.

Not necessarily. The majority of flavorings we use are PG based. PG is water soluble.

The stuff you see on shelves at the supermarket will usually contain oils, gums and sugars, all of which are not ideal for our application.
