I got my 510 in the mail today from Cignot. It came with 5 tobacco-flavored filled cartridges, and the atomizer had an empty cartridge on it (with no foam thing in it). I don't really want the tobacco flavored juice (I ordered some VG Vanilla).

My question is this: can I just use the empty cartridge, fill it with the Vanilla, and vape? Or do I need to get educated on the "mods?"

\pretty sure I just quit smoking analogs :D

You can take out the filler (wool stuff) from one of the other tobacco flavored cartridges (use a tweezers or bent paper-clip), rinse it out and dry it off and use it for filler in the empty cartridge. Fill the empty cartridge half way up with your desired liquid and then push in the filler material. You want the filler material to wick to the atomizer so don't push it too far down in the cartridge, drop one or two drops of your liquid on top to get it started and push the cartridge into your atomizer.

Hey ... I have actually been using an empty cart and direct dripping my juice into the atomizer, about 3 drops at a time. While I have also tried some pre-filled flavored carts, I have found that direct dripping into the atomizer produces much better flavor and vapor. For me, the pre-filled carts are not worth much after about 10-15 puffs ... but that is just my experience so far, and I hope it helps.

You could take out the filling in the tobacco samples, and use them as a mouth piece direct dripping onto the atomizer. A tip for carts before you upgrade... at the end of your cartridge where you place your lips, pop off the end. Cartridges tend to fill up with a condensation/juice mixture that gets really gross. You'll still have the same small hole under the small plastic cap on the end. It makes clean up much easier when the juice inevitably comes out of a cart from vaping. I highly recommend getting a drip tip! Good Prophets, Crystal Clear vaping all have good deals on them. Crystal Clear vaping also has the best cartomizer bulk deals around and come with a free drip tips. The best thing about drip tips is they make vaping so much more enjoyable and can also be used as a mouth piece at the end of a cartomizer. I love my drip tips so much, its a world of difference compared to cartridges.

Cartomizers are great. However, nothing beats dripping for trying out a flavor before you commit to putting it into a cartomizer.

I, too, would recommend using cartomizers (cartos) vs. cartridges (carts) and an atomizer (atty). Cartos are much easier to deal with...much more time between fillings. Crystal Clear Vaping also DOES have great deals on cartos, and shipping is free. Cignot is also a very good vendor.

Welcome to the forum, RedBarnGuy.

Cartos are the way to go! Attys took a few tries for me to enjoy and get the hang of - they seem to work better w/ some PVs than others.

For me, the progression has been 1. get equipment, 2. get the right equipment, 3. vape, 4. upgrade and repeat weekly :)
1/2 the fun is getting there. Hope you enjoy your new hobby!

The totally empty cart is a dummy. It is no stuffing.

You need to rinse the stuffing and pat totally dry, rinse the cart and shake out then dry with a Qtip. Then fluff the stuffing and put it back in.

For fresher stuffing I recommend the precut blue foam for 510 from strictlyejuice.com (search there for foam)

And I highly recommend Boge 3 ohm cartomizers for your favorite thinner juices (not the hotter 2 ohm - those are for big 450mah+ devices). Cartridges are Ok for learning to vape but they sometimes they can suddenly dump liquid, your flavors get mixed in the atomizer, atomizers need to be kept clean. Cartomizers hold more juice, should need juice less often, provide a more even vaping experience, are much less likely to leak if filled and cleaned up properly, keep your favorite flavors totally separate, and every one has a fresh atomizer coil built in. Downside - small continuing expense and limited lives. I can get 10 days out of a Boge carto with thin (20% or less VG) clear juices.
