Newbie has decided to end the lurking and communicate

Hi all,

I have been smoking since I was 14 and am just about (with a bit of luck) to turn 52. I deliver packages for a living at this point in time (not the coolest gig I have had but it beats having nothing) so I listen to a lot of radio during the day. Usually switch back and forth between NPR and classic rock stations. So I was doing my thing and heard a radio advertisement for an e-cig. The light went on my head. Yeah, so it was about the 10th time I heard this ad, but at least the light went on. So when I got home I ordered a starter kit off of their website. Now for the waiting. What to do? Oh yeah, bet there is a forum for this stuff.

I found this site and started reading and learning and reading and learning and reading and learning. Discovered what I ordered was certainly less than the best gear I could have chosen. I really want this to work for me. I had given up the thought of quitting smoking for a long time and to see even a speck of light at the end of this long tunnel has fired me up. So before the starter kit even arrived I found the mod I wanted, ordered it, the batteries and chargers and some e-juice. All of these choices were made by learning from the amazing folks here on this forum. Thank you.

So the starter kit arrives. Not too bad. Not good enough. I have reduced the amount of analogs consumed but still use them. So yesterday I got the batteries and charger and the shipment of e-juices. The mod was scheduled to get here yesterday but did not make it. When I got home from working today I found the usps message on my door informing me that I can pick it up tomorrow at 8:30. So close and yet...

So I am hopeful and encouraged but also fearing failure. I hope as soon as I take the first hit on my new mod I will know I will finally win the war with tobacco. Fingers crossed. Please wish me luck.

good luck :)...I deliver packages too, my radio broke for the entire summer...as a result I broke my phone from playing music on it all day through the tiny speaker...then I was just alone with my thoughts. In relation to vaping, I think you have made a wonderful choice. Don't be afraid of failing, but if you could, I would say get rid of annnnnnything smoking related in your house, once you have your mod and stock up on juice, the more the better. A good place to start off, nicotine wise is 18mg, but everyone's different. But just cram all your analog stuff and toss it in a box and maybe either throw it out, or give it to a friend who lives far away, so you can't easily get to it. Just give a full week to commiting to vaping. Plenty of people find that they might still need that one cigarette in the morning or something, but you should give this your heart and soul. Just for a week, to gage where you feel most comfortable. Also, once you've settled on a nicotine dosage you are good at, try and have a bottle of juice with a higher dosage lying around for those days you just need that fix and a kick in the ..... After 1 week of just focusing on vaping and finding your sweet spot (no one finds it right away, it takes interest and enthusiasm and work, but it's a fun process, and totally worth it). After a week, you probably won't even be able to stand the smell of cigarettes anymore. If there could be one defining week of your life, this would be it, make it count :)

If I were have to give a direct recommendation because I don't know what you've ordered exactly (please post what you've ordered), it would be to never skimp on the juice, begin stock-piling immediately (3-4 30ml bottles handy), and at the very least get in the habit of reordering juice when your open your last 30ml bottle. Also sample sizers are a great way to try and hone in on flavour favorites. Oh, and order 2 packs of Boge Cartomizers right away. They're hassle free, easy to use and satisfying. While you're still testing different setups and juice delivery systems, cartomizers in general are good as a fall-back option. When I first started vaping, I bought the 510-t tank system, found out the tanks didn't work for me, and I was miserable because I didnt have a back-up plan.

Anyways, I wish you the best of luck and welcome to ECF :) Any questions, just ask them and we'll get back to you. (don't forget to post what you ordered).

I smoked a PAD for 7 years and I only tried to quit once temporarily vaping has been my second attempt to quit. I never tried before, not because I didn't want to, but because I knew from the temporary quit, that nicotine gum, lozenges and cold turkey, were terrible and borderline ineffective. I also thought that each time you quit and relapsed, ultimately quitting becomes much harder. When I would quit, it would be by using something I had total faith in to work. That's how much I believe in vaping, and it has yet to disappoint :)

Thank you for the reply tonythetiger583. Good thoughts for sure. I ordered a reo grande in black and cartos and 8 bottles of juice from BWB. Most of the bottles are samplers but I did get a couple 15 ml bottles. One of the Applewood Tobacco and one BacKo. I got a mixture of the 18 and 24 nicotine strengths.

You made a really good purchase for a first time vaper. Your only struggle will be with the willpower to resist the urge (it still happens just not so bad as cold turkey), and finding the right cartomizer/atomizer and juice combo for you. This is something we all go through but you are starting out better than most of us did. Welcome and keep us posted on how it goes!

Hi Odysseysteve and a big welcome to you! So happy you joined ECF. I think this forum is responsible for a lot of people giving up the analogs. I think you will be pleasantly surprised when you try out your new mod. I like cartos the best because I've had problems with the tanks leaking. Just can't seem to get the air in them to equalize. I was a smoker for more than 30 years and nothing worked for long..until the ecig. Just remember not to be hard on yourself, allow yourself time to adjust. Don't forget that we're here for you in good moments and bad.

Excellent choices on the juice..you can't go wrong with BWB. I've tried most of his and like the 18mg 555 Exotic, Virginia and Applewood the best.

Good Luck and be sure to post back and tell us how you like your new mod.

Much smarter than I was...first time I ordered 4 3ml bottles and a 15ml bottle...I was freaking out in no-time...

Steve,
Welcome to ECF!!
1st i'd like to say that you made probably the single best purchase you could have to begin vaping........you bought a REO!
(congrats & welcome to the Reonauts!!)

This is my 3rd attempt at ecigs...........& it will be a year for me free from cigarettes here in 2 weeks. I owe 99.9% of it to purchasing my first REO when i was a month or so into vaping.

Next we gotta get you on over to Alien Visions, so that you can buy the best juice on the market.

Trust me, I got your back on this one!

Welcome and as someone who started early (like you), smoked for too many decades and never thought they could quit, I have been free of any tobacco for almost 8 months with no issues other than finding the perfect volt/ohm for each juice. I am still amazed and thrilled to be smoke free. I may or may not one day deal with the nicotine addiction(frankly, my coffee addiction is probably worse for me!). For now, I am just happy to have BT out of my back pocket. Congrats on such a sound choice of equipment!

Welcome to the forum Steve, Gosh you did fantastic ordering the Reo. It's a wonderful mod, just so you know if it doesn't seem to be enough oomph for you, you can stack batteries in her, she really sings at 6 volts.

Thanks for the info. Knowing how to pack more oomph into the mod could prove to be key.
