Hi everyone! I have spent ALL DAY researching and reading posts - great info here, so thanks for that! I keep thinking I have my mind made up as to what I should get for my first e-cig purchase, and then I change my mind. I'm hoping you can help me decide...
I currently smoke Marlboro ultra lights (have smoked for about 20 yrs), and generally smoke when I have my morning coffee and chain smoke when I drink  I am tired of stinking, and am so ready to be done going outside when I need a fix. So far, here's what I think I have decided:
I want something fairly easy to deal with (not sure i want to mess with filling my own, but maybe would be open to that later on...); a decent battery life so I am not going through them really fast if I have an evening of drinking! ; not too bulky - but doesn't necessarily have to look like a cigarette; not too expensive; a decent throat hit, not too strong though; and since I am used to having to suck hard on the ultra lights, the draw doesn't have to be super easy.
Does that make any sense?!
Ready, set, go...suggestions please!
Thanks in advance everyone, your input is valued...
AJ

Throat hit, flavor, draw and so forth, is really a function of the juice and the cartomizer or atty you use.
Unless you get into high voltage vaping, the device is not the determining thing.

As long as you get something that can put out 3.7 volts, you can get throat hit and all that other stuff you're looking for.

You are wise in not insisting on a cigarette looking PV
If battery life is important, you need to look at something 900mah or more.

Don't be intimidated by filling your own cartomizers (cartridges). It's pig simple, will save you a ton of money and you'll be able to choose from a far greater number of flavors.

I'll warn you right now. If you're looking for something that tastes just like your Marlboros, it ain't gonna happen. You may as well forget that right now. Despite what anyone says, e-juice will NOT taste like your favorite cigarette.

If you look around here, you will see that the top 2 recommendations from veteran vapers is the kGo and the e-Power.
Both have batteries that will last you pretty much all day. They're about the size of a Sharpie marker. They have common connectors so you can choose a wide variety of cartomizers and accessories, including pre-filled if that's what you really, really want.

They both cost about $45. The biggest difference is that the e-Power uses replaceable batteries. The kGo will last 4-6 months or so until, like any battery, it needs to be replaced. So you replace the whole unit. You get 2 kGo batteries in a kit, so you'll be good for around a year. With the e-Power you replace just the battery inside, not the whole unit.

Three places that are all good vendors for either of these models are hoosierecigs.com, Sweet-Vapes.com and DarkCityvapors.com

Get one of these units with some 2ohm Boge cartomizers, a debridged atomizer for testing juice, a drip tip or two and some juice and you'll be starting out well ahead of where 95% of the vapers on this forum started.

Here is a thread started just today by a new vaper that was in just about the same situation as you.
Take a look and see the links. If you get a kit like she did, you can't go wrong

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you. Wanted a battery that would last me a night of drinking with friends and didnt want to have to deal with filling cartridges all the time. I went with an ego but most would prefer a kgo and that's what I'd recommend to you. As far as accessories go the stardust seems to be pretty well reviewed and that's what I'm personally ordering. It holds about 1.5 mls of e-liquid so it should last pretty much all night unless you vape really heavily.

Hope you can find what you're looking for :)

i started with the pre filled carto's. that was the biggest waste of money. i have $100 worth of pre-filled cartos sitting in a box just taking up space. i got my sister to stop smoking and got her an ego kit to start. gave her a few boxes of prefilled carto's. she hated them also. gave her some bwb juice and a few carto's and atty's and she loves them.

Stop wasting money/ just but yourself a Provari and be done with it.... Direct dripping is allways the best.......

I moved from my starter kit to an ego kit, and loved it. But for a newbie I would recommend just a 1000 mah or higher ego battery, a charger, and Ego Vision Clearomizers. The clearomizers are easy to clean and extremely easy to fill (just screw off the mouthpiece and squirt the juice in directly from the bottle). Lasts for hours and super easy.

Hi momma. Welcome to the best forum there is.
Here's my 2c:
1. Kgo starter kit
2. 1 pkg prefilled tobacco flavored cartomizers @ 18 mg nic (with 510 thread)
3. 1 pkg Boge 2.0 LR empty cartomizers (510s)
4. Sample pack 100% vg tobacco juice @ 16-18 mg nic
This will get you started while you learn from these wonderful ecf veterans.
Good luck with your decision & keep coming back.

I think DCT's (dual coil carto tank) are easier than pure cartos. They last longer, are easier to fill and less messy overall. You can get a 3.5ml DCT and a straight thread cover that will make it look slick.

I don't have any experience with the kGo or e-power, but my assumption is that they are similar in design to an eGo/Riva. If so a 3.5ml DCT would fit pretty well.

Here is a pciture of a steel riva with a 3.5ml DCT and straight cone.

Hello and welcome, AJ. You will notice that asking for a specific recommendation will lead to the exact number of members plus 25 (some play multiple recs :).

I won't add my two-cents as you seem to have plenty of "answers" to you question, but I will wish you a warm welcome and happy vaping regardless of your choice.

One more option to consider: Smokeless Image/Volt is making a regulated (3.6 volt) battery in 650, 900, and 1300 mah (milli-amp hours, which is a measure of battery life). It's a really good device, and can also be used as a pass-through (meaning you can vape it while connected and charging the battery). The performance is good and very consistent since it's voltage-regulated). Only disadvantage I can see is that it uses KR-808D1 cartomizers (not quite as many companies make them as the 510 threaded cartomizers that the EGO and KGO use). I think overall it's very comparable to the EGO and KGO, and I'm using Volt and KGO both.

One other thought: I quit Marlboro Lights and found Smokeless Image's Cowboy flavor in 18 mg replicated the taste of Marlboro Lights very well for me. Individual taste varies a LOT, so buyer beware.
