Hello All,

I am an old (will be 60 this year) retired, well-educated woman who has been smoking 'real' cigs for 42 years. My health is perfect; but, due to the taxes the smart people in D.C. are imposing--I have decided to explore an e-smoke option.

In general, I consume about 1/2 pack a day of smokes. Except upon the couple of days a week when I drink beer. When I drink beer, I drink lots of beer--the beer is in my right hand, and the smoke is in my left.

I realize there are many options upon the market for e-cigs. I am a very impatient person, so I am looking for an option whereas I am not annoyed by constant re-charging and adding this & that. Cost is not a problem; I have no problem with paying for a premium product.

So there you go; I am a cranky old lady who wishes to support both my love for nicotine and my oral fixation.

I love super light menthol smokes. A light menthol nicotine e-cig would be perfect.

Please help and guide me. I would appreciate all replys. Where do I start?

Thanks so much, and God bless all,

Zelda

Sounds like you need an eGo. If I had a dollar for every time the eGo was recommended to someone. It has a nice long battery life, and is very durable. I have dropped mine on concrete several times, and it just keeps on going. It is a little bigger than the other models, but I got used to its weight rather quickly. Now, it just feels right in my hands. All around, a solid product.

As far as e-juice, there are some nice menthol flavors out there, but don't be afraid to try some of the other flavors out there. There is everything from coffee to cotton candy to boiled shrimp. Seriously.

Hi, Zelda! Welcome to ECF!

If you don't want to be bothered with constant re-charging, then you might want to check out either the Riva or the eGo. You can also check out the E-Power, which is a mod that has an eGo type body but uses stand alone batteries. I would suggest the E-Power from Hoosier E-Cig Supply because they have the 18650 version. It has a HUGE battery for longer times between recharges.

I love the Dual Coil cartomizers and my fiance and I just got our Liquinators today. We love them! They use the Dual Coils, but have a tank that hold 3mls of juice.

My advice for juice would be to keep an open mind. There are so many different flavor options out there!

Hi pndzelda. There are others who will be able to give you better advice than I, but I have heard good things about the Reo. reosmods.com Since I am pretty new to this I suggest hearing what the veterans have to say.

I also smoked menthols and rather than vaping straight mint or menthol which wasn't cutting it for me I tried vanilla cocoa mint from myvaporstore.com.

Good luck finding the right equipment, you have come to the right place for solid information. I am in DC too. You are right, the taxes are brutal!

Glad you found your way here, and I am sure you will get alot of suggestions as there are many
models of ecigs to choose from.
My only thoughts to you, is to invest some of your time here, reading and learning about ecigs.
It is a wonderful way to give up the analogs and still have our "fixations" that we are addicted
to.
I wish I could tell you that it will be as "easy" as ordering the perfect model with the perfect
juice, and you will go on your merry way and puff away at your ecig with your beer that you
enjoy.
But it may not be so.
It does work.
It does satisfy.
It does go well with beer.
But it does take a little time to learn about them and try a few things to see what works
for "you".
My suggestions is to bypass the typical starters kits that may be suggested and go up
to a mod, larger battery unit with cartomizers.
I am 60 as well, and I bypassed the typical starter units and because I read here, asked questions
and received some wonderful suggestions and advice from alot of great people, I have made
my transition from analogs to ecigs and totally enjoy the experience and all the health benefits
that go along with it.
I have a ProVape unit (provape.com) with the better battery, with LR cartomizers and it gave the instant
satisfaction for replacement of the analog and I have not needed to upgrade since.
Now the juice was a whole nuther thing!
Buy small sample bottles from a few different vendors and find out what you like and don't like.

Wish you the best on your journey and I hope you invest some time in reading and learning a
little, which will absolutely enrich your ecig experience.
There are also alot of You Tube videos on just about everything ecig.

Welcome...you are going to get a bunch of recommendations here. With that said, here is mine. The eGo or Riva kit, a drip tip, a box or two of Boge cartomizers, and some samples of 12-18mg of ejuice. I say samples because you'll have the hardest time finding the right juice to keep you from smoking...it's the biggest challenge. I solely use cartomizers these days because they're easy..fill and vape. I use the drip tip inplace of the little rubber plug because of the feel on the lips and it's easier to refill using it...simply pull off, top off, push back on. The little rubber plugs can become a pain especially if you get a little "sloppy faced" from drinking. With my luck I would windup stabbing myself with a paperclip trying to get it in the little hole to remove the plug. The cheapest place to purchase a riva or ego kit is from E-Liquid and Electronic Cigarette Shop - Category Listings. Click on the discount tab to get 20% off your order.

I also suggest the E-Power. It comes in a range of different sizes with the 18650 being the biggest. Then there is the 14650 and last but not least the 14500 (easiest small battery to acquire). All 3 of these can be obtained at gotvapes.com. Also purchasing all of the above paragraph will get you on your way to a hassle free vaping experience. If you signup for gotvapes' newletter, you get 5% off every order.

Sorry I can't help with the ejuice but someone here recommended Honeyvillevapor's cowboy smooth...that's a good juice. I smoked menthols for the better part of my smoking career and have not found a juice that even resembles a menthol cig. What I have found is a mix of menthol/mint will come closest. A plain menthol juice tastes like a Hall's cough drop to me.

..lolady will be pleased to help you, I'm sure.

I think she might be persuaded. :)

Welcome pndzelda! Nobody ever asks new people the most important question to help them choose the best e-cigarette to start with:

Are you out and about all day, or do you sit in one place most of the time?

Hi pndzleda,
Many people here started with a crappy starter kit which looks like a cigarette. And many of them bought a bigger device within a week after they tried the crappy one. So, I'm recommending you to get at least an ego or ego clone starter kit to begin with. Ego / ego clones are cigar sized device, still quite huge for some people. But there are many bigger devices, the detonator-look-a-like, the pipe-bomb-look-a-like, etc. If you want to keep it simple & no problem with the cost, just go with a premium mod & cartomizers.
My suggestion:
- AltSmoke.com | Personal Vaporizers | Electronic Cigarette | Ecigs | Silver Bullet - Starter Kits
A Silver Bullet with your choice of color, get two batteries, no atomizer, 1 battery charger, no cartridge.

- MadVapes 510 Dual Coil Stainless Cartomizer Get 10 pcs to get you started.
These cartomizers are great performer with decent capacity.

- Transparent drip tips This is the mouthpiece for your cartomizers. Get yourself 2 or 3 pcs.

Then you'll have to buy some e-liquids, if you love menthol, try FreedomSmokeUSA
FreedomSmokeUSA Menthol Arctic or Menthol Ultra.

This is a review also a tutorial for the Silver Bullet: ‪Silver Bullet Review‬‏ - YouTube
This is how you fill your cartomizer: ‪A PBusardo Tutorial : Filling Boge 510 Cartomizers‬‏ - YouTube

And replace the soft white tip with your driptip.

And welcome to ECF.

    in a cave, eh?
If you're considering a REO (reosmods.com), which is a cool choice, just remember to get all the right accessories for it. You'll want: 3 batteries (2 for regular rotation, 1 backup), 1 dual-battery charger, 2 510-threaded atomizers, 510 drip tip, cartomizers, and e-liquid. You can try MadVapes.com for all of the items Reosmods doesn't sell. You might like the feel of a REO mini in your hand, but the REO Grand will give you a few more options. You'll also end up spending more for this system.

The Riva 510, eGo, and 18650 E-Power are also good choices. Liberty-Flights.com sells them. They're cheaper and they are easier kits to start with.

I was a PAD Kool smoker, who got a pv to use all those place you can't smoke anymore. Almost a quitter by accident. If you want no muss & fuss, most of the muss & fuss is from getting juice to the atomizer. For a no mess, easy as smoking solution, you will want a juice feeder, where the juice is already "on board" The best, and most compact, perfect for a woman's hand, is the REO Mini. Of course, I do own several of them, so I'm biased :) Go look around the REO forum Reos Mods

If I were you, and just starting, I would start using the REO Mini with Boge 2ohm cartomizers because they are easier to keep wet and get a consistent hit while you are getting used to using the REO.

For menthol, I would suggest starting with VaporBomb, and try Virginia Menthol (tobacco menthol), Arctic Ice (straight menthol), Mutts Fire n Ice (cinnamon menthol).

I'm a kindred spirit, also 60 and smoked 1 PAD menthol lights. I started vaping 16 days ago and am amazed at how easy the switch was. I've ordered my first upgrade already, I'll leave it to the experts to make their recomendations. Just wanted to encourage you- I actually lit up an analog today, (I still have 2 packs in my desk drawer because I thought my transition would take some time), it tasted AWFUL to me, dull and dry. I put it out after 2 puffs. I keep those packs in my drawer as a reminder that I'm not depriving myself, it's MY choice, and I've chosen something better. Cleaner, healthier, tastier, cheaper and BETTER!
    Aloha!

I wouldn't get anything less (size/power wise) than a Riva or eGo but the E-Power is really the better alternative in the same size package. MUCH less expensive batteries that can be recharged 2000 times unlike the eGo's which have about a 200 times recharge limit. Battery cost: $4 for the E-Power; $12-$20 for the eGo batteries.
