Newbie, how much is too much?

Hey everyone! I am new to vaping, 19 days and am proud to say I've only smoked 1 analog since I started!! I was a PAD smoker (probably a bit more) for 27 years and am so glad I decided to give vaping a try, what a Godsend! But, I am vaping a lot! I am using a 12mg juice and go thru 4- 5 ml a day which would easily be more if I didn't force myself to restrain on occasion. I'm not fighting any intense cravings or anything (the usual during high stress) I just enjoy vaping and love my banana cream pie juice! I'm concerned that I'm taking in more nicotine than when I was smoking. So what do you think, is 5ml excessive? In your opinion, should I try to cut back, or drop to 6mg juice, or should I just go with it?

Thanks for the advice! Laur

If you are not feeling adverse affects and actually able to put it down from time to time, you should be good.

However if you can't put it down, maybe your nic is too low. I started with very high nic (36mg) and was able to vape pretty much equal to or less than I smoked. Since I have dropped down a little bit I tend to vape more, especially on weekends, when I can pretty much vape at anytime. At work, I am limited to what I can do on my breaks and 30 min lunch.

As long as you are feeling good, and like you normally do, I would say vape on. Lots of people are very concerned about the mg. of nicotine they vape, but that really doesn't concern me. I smoked so much for so long, that the nicotine in vaping is not something I'm worried about. I know that I'm not smoking, which is so much better for my body, and I feel great, and that's good enough for me for now.

I'm the same way... when I vape a lot, it's not because I "need" it, but just because I like it. I really haven't had a single craving since I quit smoking and started vaping.

I vape a little less than you.. maybe 3-4 ml on a heavy day. From my experience (all of 4 months) and what I've read, 4-5 is not excessive at all. And the few studies I've seen suggest that you don't absorb as much nicotine as you might think from vaping.

I started at 18 mg, cut to 12, and am now vaping 6 mg about half the time. If you're concerned about overdoing, but like to do it, you might think about gradually cutting the nic level in your juice.

But I wouldn't be too concerned about the amount you're using now. Congratulations on not smoking, btw!

Welcome! Congrats on your 19 days. I am a recent vaping convert myself (38 days, 1/2-1 PAD, over 25 years) I actually started vaping at 0mg, and now dabble between 6-12mg. I "stealth-vape" at work, and can easily go through 3-4mL at work. Then I may have a tank (or two) at home (this tends to be 0mg nic). There are lots of different opinions, and how each person absorbs nicotine is different. I personally don't think 5mL is excessive. I don't think that the 12mg is that hideous either. If you're enjoying, then that's probably the right answer.

Enjoy :toast:

This is pretty much exactly how I feel about it, I feel great (although compared to how I felt when smoking I feel amazing). So I don't worry too much about how much I vape, which is usually anywhere between 3-4.5mL of 18mg per day.

EDIT - Forgot to mention, congrats on quitting

Thanks for the advice! No adverse affects, no intense cravings, I just find vaping fun! I may pick up some 0 or 6mg juice and trade off with the 12mg throughout the day and see how that works. I'm not working right now so I know a lot of it is boredom, once I get back to work the amount will go down, I'm sure, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't over the top with the amount.

I chain vape like a two fisted ape when I am at home because I enjoy it. When I start to get the buzz I switch to my low nic juice. If it keeps you off the sticks then I say vape it like you stole it.

Congratulations and good luck

Congrats on the quitting. I was a pack a day for over 20 years. When I started, I started at 18mg. That did me fine throughout the day. I still vaped more often, more because it was more convenient to vape indoors than to smoke outdoors. I would say I started at 3-4ml/day. When I thought my nic level wasn't high enough since I was vaping more, I went up to 24mg. Slight ringing in my ear once told me that was a tad bit too high so I went back down to 18 mg. In a few months, I stepped down to 12mg, then down to 6mg with an occasional 12mg when I'm in the mood. That's where I'm at now. I don't see much need to go lower, but you can definately ween yourself off the niccotine if you want.

Sometimes I wonder myself if chain vaping is because of the niccotine or the taste... and, for me, it was because of the taste. once, I ran out of my fav juice, and bought a cheap "quickie"... I didn't chain vape that... only occasionally, and I still never finished that bottle. I realized then, that vaping is a lot like smoking a pipe... the aroma and taste is more important than the actual nicotine.

Congrats on quitting smoking! I also have recently quit as I started vaping on March 1. My last one sat in the box with the lighter for about 20 days when I finally threw it away. Figured it was stale. Having fun vaping to say the least. I tend to gravitate to the more savory flavors like coffee, caramel, vanilla, etc. Was at 24 mg and am now at 18 and liking the additional flavor more and more.

Congrats on quitting! It's such a big step for your future.

I find that using the MVP2, I don't vape as much. It's a big heavy unit and gets uncomfortable in my hand. I love it but...

Now, I'm a farm girl (um, older woman....), lift a lot of heavy things during my chores at the barn, I have big hands, but I just can't keep that MVP2 in my hand at all times when I'm not in the barn.

That being said, a smaller unit like the itaste vv or an Ego, I tend to chain vape, as it's in one of my hands when I'm on the computer and not typing (not like now!).

Weird, huh? If you're worried about chain vaping or vaping too much, get a unit that's too heavy. That'll take care of much of the problem! :)

Don't worry to much about that because you will know without a doubt if you have over done the nic. If you find yourself craving nic more, you may go up on your nic for a while then reduce it. That is if you have noticed any anxiety or moods. You do not absorb as much nic from vaping as you did with real cigarettes. Just my :2c: Good luck to you and welcome to ecf. So glad you are here.

Thank you all for the responses! I'm going to stop worrying so much about how much I'm vaping and instead think about how many analogs I'm not smoking. I never thought I would quit. Woot!Woot! Go me!

Glad you are reassured! I, too, never thought I would be a non-smoker, and now I are one!:)

Hello, Congrats on quiting. I started vaping on March 6th. I started with 18 mg. My plan was to finish my just acquired carton of analogs, then vape instead. Well, I thew out the carton the next day. I did find that 18 was too light, so I went to 24. A couple of weeks later I found the 24 way to strong and went to 12 and occasionally 18. I am guessing that as my lungs recover I am absorbing the nicotine better? Anyone else find this? I do find myself gaping a lot though. At any strength. Like you, I figure it beats analogs so I will worry about it later.

Blasted auto correct, that should be vaping, not gaping!
