Hello all,
Newb here, I have done some reading I have looked at a few articles these to name a few:

“Click here for a collection of polls to help answer newbie questions... “
“Best E-Cigarette for a New User”
“Advice on what to buy for newcomers”

There is great information here and I am very grateful for the time and effort that people have put in to help new people such as myself. There is just so much to read.
Ok let me get right down to it. My Goal is to try and quit analogs, if this involves moving permanently to vaping or using vaping as a tool I have not yet decided. I have been a ¾ PAD smoker for about 20 years. PAD on the weekends depending if I go out or not. Have used many tobacco products throughout the years in order to play sports and try to keep my lungs in decent shape during activity periods.
1. In any case I am looking for a product that is similar to analogs (Yes I know this is the standard generic request) my reason being that I do not want to stand out “TOO” much while have a vape. Do not plan on vaping in doors as I do not want to draw too much attention to myself.
2. I am not opposed to in the future (Financial reasons) getting a larger product (eGo or something of this nature) for use in my home and not out in public.
3. I have been using a Logic Black label Menthol for the last 3 days. It’s ok not very strong. Lasted 3 days but I cheated on one of the days. (had tried a something or another 18MG regular flavor something or another and did not like the taste)
4. Not looking for the easiest solution, but not looking to be filling up carts or making my mix on a daily basis.
Ok now for just a few questions.
a. Will a 510 give me the opportunity to grow with attachments etc. Was thinking about getting a 510, and getting attachments to get more vapor bat life when at home. Using the analog look when out or at work. (Charging at work will not be an issue) Or will I have to buy two products.

b. How many vapor pulls equal a 1. Marlboro light

c. Are starter kits the way to go for a newb, or piece mail if you know what you need to buy.

d. Manual vs Automatic, not fully sure I understand this. The logic disposable is auto and seems to work fine. My understanding is the the Manual lasts longer and you get to “load up the smoke” ? Confused on this

e. Heavy vapor cloud, is this from the carts or the unit itself (really looking for this)

f. Carts vs Juicing is there really that much of a difference? Cost.
g. Do they make anything that looks like a cigar pipe ?

I know this sounds like a lot of questions but would like to get as much info as possible. It’s really hard since there is really no store to go out and test the products yourself. It is kind of a steep initial investment to get started and I would like to start off on the right foot.

Thanks a Ton,

Ray

Welcome to the forum Ray!

For long term smokers that have tried the small cigarette style pvs and either aren't happy with them or haven't gotten the results they want (to quit cigs) the best bet is to get a bigger battery pv.

You have to decide what you want- quit smoking or worry about what people think you look like smoking a pv.
People that don't smoke think we all look like idiots smoking regardless of what it is- cig or pv.

The smallest pv that will fit your needs would be a 650 mah battery ego type pv. They're about the size of a sharpie. Not longer than a cig but a little fatter. With that you can use LR cartomizers and it will give you more TH and closer to the cig experience.

I'd try some 24 mg nicotine. My sister smoked Marlboro and she vape Tampa from Vapor Station and likes it a lot.

I'd recommend the Riva kit from Liberty Flights. The battery will last about 7+ hours. A box or two of boge 2.0 low resistance cartomizers, and a couple delrin drip tips. Click the 20% off at the top left.

Purchase juice from a juice vendor in 24+. Maybe small bottles but about 30 ml.

That should cost you around $60-$70 to get started.

If you only feel comfortable vaping a small pv, look into the Volt by Smokeless Image, Halo has a nice KR808 and also very popular juice, or Vapor 4 Life. All sell KR808's and carry prefilled cartomizers. They all have a selection of battery sizes and also personal charge cases (pcc).

I recommended the ego style because you didn't seem to have good luck with the small pv. But if this is what you want, they all are good pvs, good suppliers, good customer service.

Welcome to ECF Ray. I'll jump right in:

a. 510 is probably the most popular thread and there are a ton of products for 510. Any atomizer/cartomizer that work on a Joye 510 (slim battery) will work on and eGo or eGo clone that is threaded for 510. The eGo (and clones) will also accept low resistance atomizers/cartomizers. These will give you more vapor. Low resistance atomizers/cartos should not be used on slim batteries as they can damage the batteries. You also should not use an eGo charger on a slim battery. That being said, a Joye 510 is not a bad PV to start with.

b. Not sure. Are you asking how many pufs to equal the amount of nicotine you get from a Marlboro Light? It would depend on the amount of nicotine in the juice.

c. Starter kits for sure. It is cheaper than buying all the components separately. You also have to make sure you have backups for everything and enough juice.

d. Most people use manuals. They provide better control and are less prone to being damaged by leaking atomizers/cartos.

e. The amount of vapor can be increased by increasing the percentage of VG in your juice. Basicaly, more VG = more vapor, more PG = more throat hit. You can also increase the amount of vapor by using low resistance atomizers/cartos or by increasing the voltage.

Good luck on your new journey.

Yes, 510 threading has tonnes of parts to go from ranging from attys to cartos to tanks. But i think u got it a lil wrong. Batt life doesn't come from attachment. They come from the Battery itself which contains the whatever connector threading. So e.g. a battery with a 510 connector allows a atty with 510 threading to go on it. But batt life remains the same.

b. How many vapor pulls equal a 1. Marlboro light
This is quite a tough question due to the fact that everyone vaping habit is different so its more like how many times u wanna vape b4 u feel satisfied (also dependent on the strength of ur liquid). For me, i chain vape like i chain smoke. only healthier cuz i do not need to finish a whole stick itself.

c. Are starter kits the way to go for a newb, or piece mail if you know what you need to buy.
Starter kits are good because they contain, right from the bat, anyone needs to start vaping but if u know exactly what u want, go ahead and get piece mail.

d. Manual vs Automatic, not fully sure I understand this. The logic disposable is auto and seems to work fine. My understanding is the the Manual lasts longer and you get to “load up the smoke” ? Confused on this
Chill and do not get confused. Manual Batteries requires u to press a button b4 u take a hit while auto batteries will activate when u draw a puff (kinda like how sound switch works. when u clap hand, lights on. clap again lights off) only that auto batteries deactivates the moment u stop drawing and most of them have a cutoff time of 5sec +/-. Meaning u can drag the inhale for 5sec. Same goes for manual switch but they have a longer cutoff time of say 8-10sec +/-. So manual batt = manual operation (press button) Auto batt = auto operation (just suck to draw in air)

e. Heavy vapor cloud, is this from the carts or the unit itself (really looking for this)
This is from a combination of battery and attys and also liquid. i'll break it down for u. A device with high voltage = more power output. and vice versa. Depending on the atty, (oh did i mention atty refers to the heating element? lol) it can be high resistance or low resistance or standard resistance. Take for example a LR atty which is 1.5ohm. Pair that with a battery capable of deliver 4.0v and u get lots of vapor and throathit because this pairing allow more heat through the heating element thus the result. On the liquid part, PG gives u more flavor and more throathit. VG gives u denser vapor and a lil sweet but lesser throathit and flavor which is why many combines both. i.e. my juices is a green apple mint menthol flavor with a composition of 50%pg / 50%vg

f. Carts vs Juicing is there really that much of a difference? Cost.
I dun really get the question but if u're talking about pre-filled carts vs buying premix juice, definitely Juice is more cost effective as u get them in larger quantities bottles rather than small lil carts.

g. Do they make anything that looks like a cigar pipe ?
Yes. there r some models out there that are made to look like cigar pipes just like how some are made to look like analogs.

To start off right, i still recommend getting the eGo series instead cuz they r pretty much foolproof. However, if u want something analog looking, i'll then recommend a volt set.
Something to trigger ur mind. Auto Batts r usually the analog looking ones. Bad abt them is short cutoff time so u can't really enjoy a big draw and also, if juices happens to get inside, ur battery will be fried easily. Manual Batts has longer cutoff time, not analog looking mostly but longer battery life and also sealed connection meaning no worries of juices getting into the battery unless of cuz u flood the battery inside the juice lol.

No question is too much question but NOT asking question is the wrong way to go. U NEED to ask more to get better understanding and here in ECF, many will be glad to help.

Cheers and welcome. Glad u decide to take the first step to stay off analogs.
Vape on (when ur kit arrives lol)

edit- wow while i was typing i got logged out and some replies has gotten ahead ahaha~ This proves everyone is willing to help!

I'm just starting out, too, but was able to get a pretty decent set up from v4l (couple bats, couple packs of carts, charger, and pcc) for about $60 during one of their sales. I wasn't quite ready to try the more complicated sounding units people are using! It's small like a regular cigarette, but after my first order, I've opted to choose pretty bold colors that just make me happy. :)

I was smoking PAD of Marlb. Ultra Lights when I switched over. I started at 18mg nic, however, I felt like it wasn't enough, I still felt "twitchy". Now I'm doing 24mg and haven't had any problem staying away from analogs.

Good luck to you and welcome!!! :D

Welcome to ECF!
All are good suggestions, you can't go wrong with any of them. Another good one to toss at you is the Volt by smokelessimage.com. I prefer the new Sealed Automatic's and the manual passthrough. It's a great pv, cig sized, can even be hands free for xbox, and it has a consistant 3.7v vape until the battery needs recharging. You'll need to charge it every 3 hours or so, unlike the eGo which is around every 8 hours. (MWV = Mileage will vary from user to user).

Either way you go, whichever you pick, it will be a good one to start with. (and even use while you're a veteran at vaping!). My advice? Just get one purchased, and get your vape on and then do some more research and drive yourself bats with decisions like the rest of us.

You'll need a backup kit eventually anyway, so you can either buy the one you let get away this time, or you can buy more of the same or go another route altogether, like say a Provari or Darwin or Reo or Buzz or Zenesis, or ..... get my drift? lol.

Best of luck to you and happy vaping either your eGo, Riva or Volt. :)

All of these folks have given you very good advice so I will not offer the same advice they have. I will however offer the following:

1. It's best to just get started and get the thing in your hands. ECF is great and reading about these things will help you but you need the physical device in your hand.

2. I know you really want the analog look-a-like but I think in the long run you won't want this. Most people here switch to at the least a fat battery relatively quickly. If you get an analog look-a-like you will be recharging constantly.

3. Don't get ahead of the game by attempting to DIY your own liquid, buy really advanced level mods, fool around with low resistence stuff until you master the basics of vaping. Meaning how to fill your cartos, how to make minor adjustments to the equipment and generally figuring out your own preferences. It is easy to get overwhelmed here. So take it piece by piece.

4. Good luck.

Well then you will have short battery life. And you also can't use the hotter LR (low resistance) atomizers and cartomizers on slim batteries. The two I recommend are Joye 510 MANUAL and use it with Boge 3 ohm cartomizers (blanks you will fill, and NiteLiteVapor.us carries tan and white in addition to the common black). Or see KR808D-1 manuals standard/78mm size for 120mm ecig (Vapor4Life for longer drags, or SmokelessImage for better sealed manuals and a bit longer charge but a 5-second cutoff) - use prefilled or blank cartos, and on manual use a DSE901 standard res atomizer and drip tip to test juices

2 & 3

Not a question

4. Not looking for the easiest solution, but not looking to be filling up carts or making my mix on a daily basis.

Then you better be rich and buy a model with prefilled cartomizers and you will be throwing out two to several per day. So you need a KR808D-1 if you want lots of prefilled cartomizers on a slim model. Or you can get a big mod or fat battery system and use carto tanks. If you make your own juices you would make a big bottle once you work out your recipe.

Limited attachments since you cannot use the low resistance ones but yes - atomizers and cartomizers. I use MANUAL 510 as one of my slim minis. I also use KR808D-1 manuals for more hit. If you get a big battery like Ego or Kgo or Riva 510 then at home you could optionally use LR stuff on those. And the big batteries use their own charging cable that can damage the slim batteries (too many mA).

b. How many vapor pulls equal a 1. Marlboro light

Cannot be answered. And most don't vape that way. Most end up vaping more often and for fewer drags each time.

c. Are starter kits the way to go for a newb, or piece mail if you know what you need to buy.

Yes. And I recommend manual batteries, cartomizers if you buy a 3-piece kit, atty if you buy a 2-piece key, and drip tip (Only for use with manual batteries)

d. Manual vs Automatic, not fully sure I understand this. The logic disposable is auto and seems to work fine. My understanding is the the Manual lasts longer and you get to “load up the smoke” ? Confused on this

Yes - manual you can press early so some vapor is waiting when you start to drag and let up just before the end of you slow drag, then inhale. So manuals make it easier to get a good hit and I think with less energy expended since you can drag as soft as you want. Manuals are also harder to damage or kill with juice leaks.

e. Heavy vapor cloud, is this from the carts or the unit itself (really looking for this)

You can have a lot of vapor with more VG, OR a lot of hit and flavor with more PG. I do less VG - it works better in cartomizers. I use PG w/ 20% or less VG. VG is thick and high amount of VG do not work as easily with the most popular methods of vaping.

f. Carts vs Juicing is there really that much of a difference? Cost.

Carts are awful - can suddenly dump juice in your mouth, can be cranky
Cartomizers which we call cartos are nice and what most prefer
And EVERYTHING uses juice unless you are rich and can just throw away multiple cartomizer per day. I keep them damp and can get a week or more use out of a cartomizer.

g. Do they make anything that looks like a cigar pipe ?

I don't know what a cigar pipe is. See AZSmokeFree for one pipe and search Google for Jazz Cartopipe to see another. If you want something cigar like the only one I saw was a ripoff but you could check nHaler - they might have one. A fat battery Ego or Riva in black with the cone on looks close enough to a cigar but no light on the end (just shiny metal)

The E-Power 510, Riva 510 and Kgo are all the size of a slim cigar. I would not recommend getting anything smaller in battery size than these if you are serious about transitioning to vaping. Swedishfish gave you good suggestions. Stick with manual batteries for better control and safety and start out with 24mg nicotine strength liquid. You can always make it less strong but you can't make it stronger. Here are some well supported sites to look at:

e-Power

Electronic Cigarette - Starter Kits - Riva 510

This is an expecially good deal because it includes some blank cartomizers and some eliquid:

I haven't been vaping for long but I used to smoke marlboro lights and now use 24mg liquids. I usually only allow myself to vape at the same times that I would normally smoke. I have noticed if I don't keep an eye on it I would vape all day long.

And what is wrong with vaping all day long???
