Look for overall resistance reading, any fluctuations in the reading, etc. I usually tap the rda or wiggle the coils a bit to see if they are loose at all and check the reading and see if it changes. Make sure it won't come into contact with the cap, the deck, or the posts.

Ok great, I do understand all those things so thank you for that.

So getting this equipment and reading my builds and knowing if I have a hard short, etc... What am I looking for in order to see this potential danger?

Most regulated pv's won't fire if there is a short, but since you're using mechs you don't have built in protection. The ohms reader will give you that protection before you try to run 20 watts through it and blow a coil or battery. Then you need to make sure you don't have hot spots in the coil and everything is heating evenly and adjust the coils. I think the overwhelming trend here is safety before cloud chasing

The VTC4's are IMR. You've chosen one of the best batteries for your application. If not the best.

Basically, understand Ohm's Law and you will see how the amperage skyrockets exponentially as the resistance drops below .1 or .2 ohms. It won't be pretty. :toast:

You don't want to setup a .4, find a short, then find out you're pulling WAY more than the battery can handle (30A).

Lol! Ok thank you so much! I really appreciate that. Do you have a link to more information on 'understanding ohm's law'?

Not off hand, but you can google it and find all the info you need.

Voltage = Current x Resistance

or

V = I R

Voltage is set at 4.2 (worst case max for the battery)
Current and resistance are the variables

I completely agree. I have always checked that the coils are heating evenly and adjusting them accordingly. Which is clearly not enough! Thank you for the advice!

Now, what about a clone MOD vs the real thing?

What are the big difference's here? I really can't find a defining answer anywhere.

Well, depends who you ask and how much you want to debate lol. I've found no issues with clones, and refuse to pay full price for a battery tube. I have a K100 (original, found cheap), and a Diablo and Maraxus clone. My Patriot is a clone, no problems. My preference, buy clones and have a larger collection. :D

Well and this is pretty similar to how I feel. I just have this weird subconscious feeling that having a real deal MOD somehow it maybe even the smallest way will help me get to what I want, HUGE awe gazing clouds :p

I don't think there is anything smaller than an 18650 with a high amp rating, around 20 or 30A. I could be wrong...........

Well that makes sense! haha, I haven't done THAT much re-search but I had come in contact with a cloud chasing champ here in AZ recently and he teased me pretty hard about the 18350 trusfire batteries I had and recommended for what my goals were to just go big and get the VTC4's lol so I did(after I cried about being teased)

Well, the most important difference between clones and originals affecting huge clouds would be voltage drop. But I've read many posts where people claim their mod has a huge voltage drop, but they didn't check the voltage drop of the battery beforehand, and their mod had a very minor voltage drop.
