Hi All,

First of all, what a great site!

I've read and learnt a lot in the forums... however I still may have some questions...

I've been smoking for a about 10 years now and I want to quit smoking analogs but I don't want to lose the "act of smoking".

I usually smoke Menthol or Light, I'm not a heavy smoker but a social smoker, maybe 5-10 on a night out once a week, and eventually one after lunch every other day.

I've read about V2 and Blu, both of them caught my attention. Wondering whether they'll work for me...

Any thoughts and comments are greatly appreciated!

Either might. However, the problems are (1) battery life and (2) value for money.

In terms of battery life, since you are a social / light smoker, that may not be a problem off the bat. All cigarette lookalikes have small, very short lasting batteries. If you are not totally opposed to the idea, you might want to consider, at least, the "mid-size" category including *go (eGo, KGO, ePower).

But if you want to stay with a small, inconspicuous battery, please only understand that it means - shorter time between recharges (do get at least two) and almost no flexibility (small batteries can really only power standard resistance cartos and clearos).

Although the "510" thread connector is overall the most popular and offers the widest array of vaping attachments to use (atomizers, cartomizers etc.), in the small cig-like world KR808Ds seem to be more popular. The classic 510 cig-style PV is always an option, but seemingly it offers a little less performance than a good KR8...

Among these, some of the more desirable brands are seemingly the Volt gamut by Smokeles Image, the Smoov and possibly the V4L. I'd leave it to someone who actually uses these to go into more detail. I'd stay away from the more overpriced V2 or Blu that don't really offer anything to back up their prices and marketing practices...

However, although you probably are thinking the "automatic" (puff activated) batteries are more attractive, for most it seems that the manual (button activated) models offer a better experience - you are in control of your vaping, it really doesn't take any time at all to get used to it, and there is less of a risk of killing the battery if juice leaks.

If you want to keep the act of smoking and you are basically a social smoker, then going to an electronic cigarette that looks similar to a tobacco cigarette is probably for you. These would be the 510 and 808 styles.

Here is where I'm kicking in my opinions and preferences.

Either Blu or V2 would probably work. With the exception of the Blu disposables, everything I've used has been the 808 style battery.

However,

I only used Blu disposables while I was waiting for my first 808 kit to arrive, which happened to be V2. The disposables were way too high in nicotine content for me, but I did small "puffs" on them until the kit arrived. Then, the Blue disposables went into the trash. I didn't like the taste, and I didn't like not knowing what the mg nicotine was - I had to look them up online to find they were 24mg.

The V2 batteries are good batteries. In my opinion, though, that is all that is good about V2, and even they seem to have a bad battery rate a little higher than most. Their customer service is not that great and their shipping times can vary so much that you never know when you will actually get your shipment no matter what you pay for. Their flavors are ok, but limited. A recent change in their menthol sent a lot of people crying "foul!" The biggest deterrent to me, after all that, was the price. They are quite a bit more expensive than should be, in my opinion.

I tried the Blu, the V2, and the "generics" from MyVaporStore and VaporKings. All worked more or less, actually less, than I wanted. If you get any of them, you'll probably be fine. However, I wanted a little more reliability and a little less price and a little more choice and still wanted to keep the cigarette look and the act of smoking. A PM recommendation sent me to look at http://smokelessimage.com/. I found a lot of things to catch my interest and I placed an order and haven't looked back. The Volt batteries are exceptional, reasonably priced, provide - for me - up to 3 hours vaping, depending upon my mood, have a lot of selection options, and some bling, to boot. Their customer service is outstanding, even gave me a free replacement battery when one I ordered was out of stock, and then they didn't ask me to return it when the one I ordered came in for me. And, their community stands by each other and will answer any questions anyone may have.

Smokeless Image also has a new step up "big battery," called the X2, that is their mid-size step up and works wonders as well. About the size of a cigar and looks nothing like a cigarette. Will accommodate their cartomizers as well as their clearomizers, and the battery life, for me, is about 10 to 12 hours (over a couple of days for me) for the 1300 size. No charging of separate batteries, that is for the mods and you don't sound like you want to hit mods right off. Be sure to read the stickies on the forum, there is one here, http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...287787-three-main-types-ecig-explanation.html, which will explain the difference in sizes of "personal vaporizers."

No matter where you go, I'm sure you'll be set, just be sure to ask plenty of questions once you are able to visit the vendors' sub forums at 5 posts.

And, Welcome to ECF!

+1 on what jodetoad said. We all want you to join us in the vaping world but maybe you should try a cheap disposable first just to be sure. If you do try one and it feels like smoking to you than I would recommend buying from smokeless image. Even if you don't like the flavor of the disposable you try that can be changed easy enough when you have refillables.

I'd say steer away from the Blu brand. In my research before buying my kit, I never found much good from it.
I'd suggest Smokeless Image | and their Volt starter kit. Did a ton of digging before I bought it and I loved it from the start. I was off analogs after 2 days of using it. (Would have been sooner but had a brand new pack I just wanted to get rid of lol) I've since got my sister, my mother, and 4 of my good friends off analogs and onto a Volt kit of their own and they all love it. If you want something a bit bigger, check out their X2 line which have the larger batteries and you can rock their Clearomizers with them or still use their Cartomizers as well. Great battery life, the best customer service I've encounterd and great all around products. I don't think you'll go wrong with choosing them.

If you are wanting the look of a real cigarette and a nice vaping experience. Try this. 2 nice 510-connection 280 Mah batteries styled to your choice. Get a pack of 5 empty cartomizers (filter color you like) and some liquid you like and learn how to fill and clean them yourself. (And a good way to charge them). When you go out as you say, take your charged batteries and about 3 full cartomizers and I garantee you will be a happy vapor. Yes, they have cases to carry your stuff.

Guess I still have homework to do and check on those as well... and you are right I'm looking for a small lookalike ecig at least to start vaping and see how it goes... don't know maybe later I'll switch to the mid-size...

Glad you mentioned that, as a matter of fact I was planing to get 1 of each to see which works better for me.

Thanks for your comments

Welcome to the forum Cig! I would recommend the volt kit if you are leaning more towards the cigarette look as these volt batteries perform really well for what they are in my opinion. Definately stay away from the blu brand as these are simply under performing and overpriced marketed ecigs in my opinion, if you are not stuck on the cigarette loook alike I recommend getting a K-go kit from hoosier ecigs. Good luck in whatever you decide on and if you have any questions please feel free to come here and ask as there are many wonderful people here that are happy to help answer any questions you may have. Take care, have a great week and hope you enjoy your vaping experience!!

Have you ever smoked an e-cig? You might consider trying a disposable e-cig, to see if the experience is close enough for you. The only kind I have tried was Square, which was OK. A couple people I tried to convert just felt it wasn't the same, in ways they felt were important to them.

Yes, I have tried a few disposables (very strong for me)... its not the same but I really liked it, so that's why I've decided to give ecigs a try.

Btw, Seems like you all guys work for smokeless image... (just kidding )

I was thinking to buy a starter kit to get everything in one single pack.

Not sure if I'm ready to start doing it all by myself (including shopping from different places and from several models) on the other hand if you can recommend me a setup (with part numbers :) ) and where to buy... well that would be just great!

Hi CigSwitcher and welcome to ECF. The Volt is a good "cig-like" PV but does not have the power/ long life of the Kgo or E-Power which run at true 3.7 volts- this voltage enables you to have a greater selection of catos and/ or attys. Realize 100 mah= 1 hour normal vaping before recharge.
E-Power 14650 battery is 1050 mah
Kgo is 1100 mah
Both the above PVs will allow you to use low resistance cartos and after you get the hang of it you could move up to tanks- either a regular tank or clearomizer. The SmokTech LR 1.7 ohm XL Cartomizers work very well with these PVs and can hold an enormous amount of juice thus avoiding constant refilling- they hold almost 2 ml of juice, double the normal amount.
Good Luck.

Hi, thanks for the info, however at this point that sound very pro for me, I think that I'm gonna stick for a while with the Volt or something like that... Thanks!

Hi, I'm going to jump on the Smokeless Image bandwagon here - I just received my first one and am really happy with the choice. There's no do-it-yourself involved at all, it's a super simple two-piece setup. I was uncomfortable about starting with anything complicated as well, and the Volt starter packs are anything but. There are a few starter packs that offer two different batteries, and you make individual choices for each - you have a bunch of colors to choose from, two sizes, and could get one automatic and one manual. I ordered Friday and received (with free shipping) on Monday! I realized it does sound like I work for them, but I'm just really happy to have cut through all the confusion and gotten started with something simple that people speak about so positively. Good luck!
