I have been using cartomizers since I started vaping couple weeks ago. I thought I would try dripping so that I could try new juices without wasting a carto on the ones I don't like. I watched some videos and it seemed pretty simple so I ordered some attys without filler and some drip tips.

Not sure what I am doing wrong because this is not going well. I dripped 3 drops and didnt inhale the first couple of drags as recommended. Not much vapor, not much taste and after a couple hits tastes terrible. Can someone help me out with this as I want to master this. I tried it with both my Riva 510 and my new Big Chuck.

Also do you burn off the excess before trying the next flavor? Will this burn it?

Ok, just start over. Take your atty off, and blow everything out of it into a paper towel. Wipe down the connections on both the atty, and the battery(when these are wet, they will give a harsh nasty hit with no vapor). Now you're going to prime your atty with 3 or 4 drops since it's nice and dry. I never used a 510, but with a 901 atty, you need to take nice slow drags. After a couple hits, you'll notice a metallic taste start to develop. This means you need to add a few more drops. 2 is usually plenty. If you flood it, you'll get that harsh hit with no vape again. And you'll need to start back over by blowing it out and repeating the first steps. This will all become second nature after a bit of practice.

Uba is correct and to add to his comments: Always blow out new attys before you use them! They come with a nasty tasting primer in them from the factory. You need to get rid of it by blowing it out. Also if you want to, you can do a quick cleaning of an atty to switch to a new flavor. Just run it under some warm water and blow out the juice residue. Put it back on the bat and if you want, do a dry burn to remove any left over residue. Dry burns are firing the atty without juice in it for a couple of seconds.

I had a bit of trouble with my attys when starting too. Did blow out the primer when I first got them, and had to "break-in" the atty for a day or so before it was hitting really well. Got two attys in my kit, one works quite a bit better than the other (were identical), so it is possible you could be looking at a "lesser than" atty.

It does take patience, but the payoff is so worth it! :)

Here's my opinion on trying new juices. I prefer to use cartos instead of attys for multiple reasons. A 5 pk of cartos costs the same as one atty. Although you can clean attys, some juices are very hard to clean out and can become very time consuming. If you try one juice and dont like it, and cant get all of the taste out it can contaminate the next juice making it taste equally bad, where as it might taste good had it not been contaminated. I use cartos because i get a fresh start for each juice and if i dont like it, i throw it away. Its only a little over a dollar you are throwing away vs ruining an 8 dollar atty. Check out crystal clear vaping. 15 cartos for 20 bucks, thats only $1.33 per carto and free shipping. Win? Thats my method for testing out attys. Hope this helps.

i use dual coil cartos and 510 attys (3.7 & 4.8 volts). dual coils are like $2 and they are a good way to take a juice for a ride. i do prefer dripping though over cartos. dripping takes a little finesse on balancing just enough and not flooding the atomizer with eliquid. once you get the hang of it, it's awesome, annoying for car trips though (i've been at a light trying to drip and having to drive with my hands full and shifting when the light turned green too quickly). enjoy dripping at home and keep the cartos for the road.
