Hi everyone! My name is Sally, I'm a Canadian living in Germany. In the past month I managed to burn out 3 Ego 1100 pens, 2 with CE4 atties and 1 with a bottom coil attie. The batteries are not lasting me 1/2 a day even.. Arrrrrrg soooo I just ordered a innokin COOLFIRE PLUS APEX KIT.

Innokin Coolfire IV Plus 70W iSub Apex Starter Kit

I did a lot of research, like how she handles and even found tutorials on how to rebuild the isub coil head without needing to buy the rba kit.
I am great at taking things apart, rebuilding them so on..I understand 32g is not as thick as 28g.. But I need help understanding wattage and ohms, what's best to vape at.. I want a nasty wicked mother vaper!! The ego pens are kiddy toys! I intend on making this an obsessive hobby! I know not much can be done with creative coil building with the apex attie so I will eventually get a better one but... What gauge Kanthal should I get? 26g - 28g? Is it better with high or low wattage... What are ideal settings to use? Are there books anyone can suggest? Hope I don't drive you all crazy Lolol

Thanks for any help or suggestions,
Sally

Hi Sally, welcome to the board. I personally find for 1 ohm and below-- subohm vaping like your Apex-- 28ga is a good, all around wire to have. If it isn't heavy enough wire, you can twist two (or three of four) pieces together for lower ohms in the same length and make a surface area gain at the same time. If you want to build higher than 1 ohm-- I don't think so from your comment-- then 30 or 32ga would be more appropriate. That's probably also true for rebuilding your Apex prefab heads. Building wild coils is a lot of fun, but there's a lot to learn and some practice needed before you'll get good at it. Further, rebuilding prefabs or RBA adapters is very limited. You will, I believe, be far better served by a rebuildable atomizer of some sort. If nothing else, there's a lot more room on the deck and it's easier to do. Let me suggest you start with a cheap dripper clone (RDA, rebuildable dripping atomizer) like a Dark Horse or a Velocity. This will get you into building and it will be a lot easier to do. If you decide you like it, you can eventually throw over your Apex for a RTA (rebuildable tank atomizer) and get the convenience of on-board juice storage. There are any number of good ones available and I and many others will cheerfully make recommendations when we get that far. One key issue is safety. It really is necessary to get an ohmmeter to test your coils before you fire them. On a regulated mod like your Cool FIre, it's supposed to not fire an unsafe coil. It's good gear, but this is still not a risk I would take.
