I'm new to vaping and mixing my own juice. Most of the blends that I see online are 50/50 PG/VG. I wanted to tone down the throat hit though so I'm going around 30/70. But that comes with a trade-off of less flavor because the VG, while it produces a ton more vapor, doesn't carry the flavor as well. So here is the question. If I assume a 10% flavor "sweet spot" for a 50/50 blend, what should I assume for a 30/70 blend? Any thoughts on this? Without knowing how much of the flavor is carried by the PG versus VG, I can't really plug anything into a calculator. :)

Just keep in mind that PG based flavors add to the total percent of VG so if you use to high a VG number and the NIC concentration is to low you will run into a PG negative mix concentration when you calculate your percentages with an ejuice calculator.

For instance if you use 36ml PG NIC solution and wanted 24mg final base at 30/70. then for 30 mls of base you would need

20ml PG nic juice
-11ml PG (As you can see this is not possible)
15ml VG

Now keep in mind for this example I'm basing my calculation on 20% PG flavoring so you can easily see my point.

So be mind full that when you order your NIC solution you would need at least a 60 or 100mg strength

As far as percentages of flavor yes it's true you need more flavor if your VG concentrations are higher. But taste is very subjective so no one can tell you how much flavor you need. The best practice is to use the minimum recommended percentage with this exception. Add 2% to the minimum because your VG content is so high. Then MIX steep and taste. If it needs adjustment then adjust.

I don't use nicotine, so I'm fine there. :) I mixed some Sour Green Apple together today. It was a small batch just to test. But it ended up being 14% Green Apple and 3% Sour. That is the highest percentage of flavoring that I have played with so far.

Just out of curiosity, what is the highest total flavoring percentage that you guys have ever used? What flavors tend to need a higher percentage than what you would expect?

Then you need not worry about nicotine to VG as it don't apply here. What has been stated as far a maximum flavor percent is not to go over 20% total flavor. But let your taste buds be the judge of that. I would still recommend using the lowest recommended % + 2% to allow for more VG and add more if needed after proper mixing and steeping. At some point you can over saturate with flavor. Meaning with some flavors 10% may be the saturation point. So adding more beyond that point would be useless.
