Hi guys, this is my first post to the forum I have bought a new Halo G6 and have added Halo Freedom juice to my cartomiser 18mg, I normally smoked 20+ Marlboro Lights a day.
My question is, are these issues I am finding normal when you start out and do they normally go away, or is there something I am doing wrong?
Things I have noticed in my first few days.
1. Tingling sensation on my tongue after I take a few draws.
2. Quiet a strong throat hit from the 18mg Freedom juice, compared to my old analogue Marlboro Lights.
3. Slightly dry throat.
Are these things that I should expect as a new vapor, and do they subside after time?

Thanks for any help or advice guys

Well the dry throat is to be expected. The PG in the liquid is dehydrating. Drink lots of water. I would think the tingling tongue and strong throat hit might be from the nicotine level, though yours isn't particularly high for someone just coming off smoking a pack a day. You don't pull as hard on a tank as you do on a cigarette, so you might try a more slow and gentle drag. If you're inhaling directly into your lungs, you might try pulling into your mouth and then inhaling. I haven't personally had those 2 problems so maybe someone who has will be able to help there.

I've not personally expirence those issues but I can tell you the pg content in the juice is what is responsible for the throat hit so you might try a juice with a lower pg content. What is the pg percentage of that particular juice? If you continue to expirence issues try a 100% vg juice or a lower pg in the juice. Sometimes it takes our bodies some time to get used to the pg but it should never cause discomfort. Just know you can adjust the juice percentages. You might be having a reaction to the pg or that particular juice. Hope this helps you out . I'd switch up the juice and see if the feeling disapears

Drink lots of water...:)...it's the vaper's mantra. That's very normal.

The tingling sensation might be a particular flavor you're using. I've found the flavor can have a large effect in TH and mouth feel. Your nicotine level will also affect this, but will lessen over time, the flavors seem always to have the effect, at least with me...:vapor:

Hello, and welcome Irish82. I'll try and answer your questions.

1. Tingling -- not sure about that. I vape at very low nic levels and have been doing this for 8 years and I really don't remember the subtle nuances I first felt. I know that now, if I stick the tip of my tongue in the middle of the airflow (depending on the flavor) I may experience some tingling.

2. 18mg is a little strong for a beginning vaper who smoker 1 PAD (pack-a-day) of Light cigarettes. You might consider buying your next juice at 12mg instead of 18mg. If you have a juice bar at a vape store in your area you could try out some of their juice. Most juice bars here in the US stock their testers with 10-12mg juice.

3. Dry throat -- PG is very dehydrating. Juice ratios are all over the board. Some brick and mortar stores only stock 1 ratio. Online vendors often offer more. There are also vendors who only carry 100% VG as some people have reactions to PG. Just drink lots of water.

Hopefully, more will chime in here and share their experience.

Hi Irish, and welcome.

Yes, the throat hit and dry mouth are caused by the PG, so you might be better with a higher VG ratio. And drink plenty of water.

The tingling sensation could well be the nicotine, though you're on the level normally advised for someone coming off 20 cigarettes a day. But everyone's different and maybe a lower nicotine level will suit you better.

It can take a few weeks to find something that suits you well, so buy a variety of juices until you find something that works for you, and the money savings will come later.

Hi Irish.

Dry mouth, oh yes.... lots of that. It get's easier. In time, it goes.

18mg... hmm, should be OK, depends how you vape. Throat hit is a kind of mysterious thing. If you are vaping like you smoked, it's going to be horribly powerful.

There's one concern I have for you... how many cartomizers are you using/filling per day?

I smoked 15 (x 1.0mg cigs) and even 24mg didn't stop the cravings on a cig-a-like. You might actually get cravings....

what strength were your "lights"...? :)

Along with the PG the fact that you recently quit smoking plays a pretty big role. Your body is healing from years of smoke damage. A sore throat is one of the most common effects from quoting smoking. PG does give a little throat hit but the vast majority of the TH comes from the nicotine level. If you have plenty of time in your day to vape I'd agree to lowering your nic a bit. As far as the tingling on your tongue my guess would be you're inhaling kinda hard and pulling juice up and into your mouth. When you vape take slow long drags and try to exhale through your nose some. When vaping most of the nic is absorbed in the mucous membranes. Welcome to the forum!

Hi Irish82,
You may be experiencing the tingling if you are pulling too hard and actually getting the juice on your tongue without even knowing it. Reading the other comments though, I agree, the higher the mg's of nic and the way you inhale will increase TH which can cause dry throat or some irritation. There is a company called Kind Juice that is all organic VG based, I don't use them because I like the TH and VG clogs my coils quickly, but if you're experiencing an allergic reaction to the PG, you should try all VG, just a suggestion. Also, going down to 12mg juice, only if it still keeps you from smoking. Good Luck!

Dry mouth is a our tradeoff for the cig stink. Just suck on a life saver until you get used to it, and you will get used to it. Mostly keep a bottle of water close by for the sips you will need to keep bad breath down from the dry mouth.

Throat Hit has many reasons but the nic shouldn't be an issue. Vapor is cooler than smoke and not filled with the other nasties that act as a numbing agent on your throat and lungs. Drawing in a cig is different than drawing on a vape pen, when you learn the difference in draws that should help as well. For some PG has a meaner kick to the throat than others, I just went to a 50/50 mix and it's helped as I've started to enjoy straight lung inhales more. Lastly your juice may have something in the flavoring that doesn't agree with you.

Tingle tongue could be from the way you are drawing or from the the juice spitting into your mouth. Nic generally leaves a warming almost oily sensation but I guess to some it could tingle. Try putting the mouth piece in the corner of your mouth so you aren't licking the mouth piece, that helped me.

Hope this helps

One cartomizer will last me approx one or two days, filled with Halo Freedom. I smoked 20+ Marlboro Light per day, 6mg tar, 0.5mg Nic.

Thanks for all the great quick responses guys.
How would you know if you couldn't tolerate juices with high PG content? I thought it was pretty common for vapors to get a slightly dry throat??
If I am sensitive to the high PG content from Halo juices, what should I be looking at buying next, and where is the best vendors, or products to go for?
Thanks for your help.

I got the tingly tongue when I smoked a pipe; it later became more a burn than tingle but that was because I was drawing the hot smoke directly on the same spot on my tongue over and over. You might just be experiencing the sensation because, as others have said, you are drawing on the vape like you would a cigarette and getting a little bit of juice.

Generally, when you order juice you can request a specific mix of PG and VG. Next time try a higher VG mix, something like 30PG/70VG and see if you notice a difference.

The dry throat only last a minute or two after I take a few draws, and then subsides. I was just curious as to whether it wasn't supposed to happen when vaping.
What are the best sites for ordering those kinds of e liquids, I love the taste of the Halo juices.

Well, that is incredible. Good for you. :)

You have really cut back on your nicotine.... I'm impressed.

Keep that up and you could genuinely quit nicotine quite soon, I reckon.

You may want to reduce your nicotine level. The "tingling" is the nicotine and that's not necessarily a problem but if the throat hit is a lot stronger than your cigs, you may be getting too much nic.

Early on, I kinda liked the "tingly" thing but it irritated my mouth and throat after a while and wasn't so fun. I had to cut back on my nic level quite a bit. Though I was a 2 pack a day smoker (40+ cigs), my vape nic is actually rather low. I stay around 9mg most times with some 12. Never higher anymore.

The absorption of the nic is different in vaping and there's no easy "equivalence". I know some try to say X mg nic for a Y cig a day smoker but it doesn't seem to work that way. Two people who smoked the same brand in the same amounts can go opposite directions in vaping (seriously, ages ago, I ran into somebody here who had almost exactly my old smoking habits who, as a vaper, used nic levels two to four times higher than I do... how that happens, I got no idea).

Anyway. Some dryness is normal and you should up your water intake. Not chug gallons but definitely increase it. The vapor is produced by the base liquid absorbing moisture. Some of that, it's swiping from you.

Some of that will be just an adjustment. I had overly dry nasal whatever early on even with drinking plenty of water. Then it passed. I can still give myself a bit of "dry mouth" by chain vaping but that's my own fault. :)

3. You get dry throat because of PG which is a humectant. If it doesn't get better try switching to 100% VG flavour.
2. Consider going down on nicotine strength, go for 12mg or less. You can also take smaller puffs.
1. Tingling sensation could be due to your flavour or clearomizer. Consider changing it. Dont go back to tobacco cigarettes though.

REHYDRATE YOURSELF FREQUENTLY.
