Hello @Brewdawg1181, thank you for the welcome and the ton of info. Really appreciate it.

I've taken the tank apart on more than one occasion. I've checked all o rings and placed then back carefully. The tank usually leaks from the air holes. If not that then there is juice on the outside of the glass.

I've reduced the wattage at which I vape, that has somewhat taken care of the dry hits for now. I usually vape with a 70/30 juice with low nic. I don't care about the throat hit too much because it's not about the craving for nic, it's about that oral fixation of reaching out for a cigarette when I'm bored.

I used one of the elf coils on the Nautilus 2 and that seemed to have reduced the leaking by a bit. I am assuming that the Nautilus coils I have are a problem. I'll replace the o ring at the coil base and try them.

I've been reading up on the rebuildables, but since I don't have anyone to discuss this in person with, I am apprehensive. I've tried looking up videos and stuff but haven't got an answer to what kind of coils to get and which tank will work best.

If you have suggestions on a tank and ready made coils, please share them so I'll order those and give that a shot too.

Thanks again. Cheers.
Okay -will follow up with more info on what worked for me later, but I've got a ballgame to watch right now.:)

Okay, wife decided to shower, so game is paused. Yeah, sounds like you're doing all the right things, so something must be defective.

I'm the kind of guy that does lots of research before buying anything, so that's what led me to the N2. I'm a tinkerer and tightwad, so after a short time with the N2, I found that for RTA's the Kayfun Mini V3 seemed to be the best (most popular, anyway) choice. I got it and absolutely love it. No leaks, no issues. I tried the Kayfun V5, but it doesn't really do it for me - being an ex smoker, the vape isn't as dense, or strong. But that doesn't sound like it'd be an issue for you - it might be a good choice for you. It's a great tank, with more features than the Mini V3, and because it's a little larger with wire trapping, easier than the mini V3 to build on.

Now they've just come out with the Prime, which I like because it's shorter and has wire trapping on the deck, making rebuilding much easier. And it supposedly has the density of vape like the Mini 3. I'll be ordering it shortly.

Based on what you've said, the K5 might be the one for you.

Oh, and I wouldn't recommend premade coils - making the coil is the easiest part of rebuilding, and takes literally about 15 seconds. Get a coilmaster jig and a spool of wire - I like 28ga stainless 316L, and use Cotton Bacon, but any organic cotton will work. I think I paid about $4 for 100' of wire, and another $4 for the cotton bacon. Should last me a couple of years.

Thank you Anna!

I've done all that you have mentioned. I've reset all my o rings, even replaced some of them with the spares.
Since there aren't any vape shops I can go to here, I'm kinda at the mercy of the internet to figure out what is wrong. I have kind a come to the conclusion that this tank itself is an issue. Since I bought it online, I've tried to raise a return / replacement and decided to use the ijoy elf till the Nautilus 2 issue is solved. However the Elf just dry hits every 7-10 puffs. Maybe I'm over tighten the top cap while closing it. Will try and keep it snug and see if that helps.
Hello & Welcome,
Sound like what I remember when I first started vaping,,, every 5th to 8th hit ran dry.
I found myself placing my fingers over the air flow, and drawing a no power hit.
My recommendation is to slow down on the hits, and every once in a while do as I noted above.
I'm sure you'll get the hang of not getting dry hits.

I'm trying to wrap my head around the leaks and dry hits and on the recommendation of @Brewdawg1181 I've ordered a Kayfun V5. Hopefully till that arrives I would have sorted my issues with dry hits and the leaks.

Thanks for the advice. Cheers.

I'd read up about it and coilbuilding in the coilbuilding forum and the RTA forum in the meantime, so you have the supplies you need to get started as well as a working knowledge about coil building. It's good to get a bit of a head start.

I was someone to whom coil building DID NOT come easily, but I was able to overcome my issues with a lot of patience, and willingness to practice (I have a fine motor tremor so that made things harder, initially) and it's a lot of fun. Hopefully you will enjoy the K5 and I think you will find it a very different experience than the N2. Sorry that didn't work out, I almost always recommend that tank for starting MTL, but it does sound like you got one that slipped through the QC process.

Good luck! :)

Thank you. I'm already glued to coil building threads and videos. I'll be in a better position to understand what they are saying once I get hands on the supplies that I've ordered.

I got the Nautilus 2 after I read rave reviews and video reviews of how it is the bomb. I went ahead and ordered on. I'm check with the seller at the site that I ordered from if there is a possibility of a return or replacement. Hopefully I'll know know. Since the N2 was giving me a headache, I locally soured the Ijoy Elf as it was also recommended (not too much on the ijoy elf as it's apparently a fairly new tank). But the dry hits and bubbling don't seem to stop on that one.

Hopefully, once the K5 comes, I'll be lucky enough for it to work flawlessly and make my own coils. Till then the N2 and Elf will need to be endured. I don't know how to stop the dry hits from happening, but I know how to avoid them for 7-10 puffs. Hopefully that will keep be vaping for now.

Well the good news is you are trying something great (and maybe the N2 will be replaced), but hey, getting into RTAs early has served some folk well, and if I didn't have a Kabuki and a Provari to make drop in coils super awesome, well, maybe I wouldn't have so many boxes of Nautilus 2 coils, LOL. With that said, it's great to try all types of vaping. It does sort of come together with the right tools, it all starts making sense. If you aren't going to get a Coilmaster Kit (lots of handy folks don't need them, but I did) you may want to at least get an ohms reader to build on and check your builds. I use them as a stable base to do everything except filling... Wicking and etc., it makes things a lot easier for me. I think the K5 deck is somewhat small, so you may want magnification glasses or even better a magnification glass with a light on it to build under.

Just some thoughts for a new to RTA. And, there are plenty of veterans winding coils around screwdrivers and whatnot. Oh, also, play around with Steam Engine | free vaping calculators it will help you target your resistance.

Ok, great - hope it works out for you. If not, blame me!;)

Oh, and it seems most people with Kayfuns (at least on the threads I saw) use a 2.5mm diameter coil. I'd start with a contact coil, as it's easier. And if you got .28ga 316L, I'd try starting around 8 wraps. I usually get about .85ohm on that, and it's my sweet spot. Easy and cheap to go higher or lower ohm if you don't like it. And some of the best advice I saw on a vid about building that works for me is to use enough cotton so it's pretty "full" in the coil, to prevent sizzle/popping. Just enough so that it almost deforms the coil as you pull it through. Wicking is the hardest part, but I never really had failures, leaking, dry-hits. Just some I liked better than others. You'll learn quickly what you like. And again, good luck!

Just an FYI, the kayfun 5 is a bit more finicky in how you should build it, and has a more airy draw (for slightly higher wattage vaping or for those who desire a more airy draw) unless you get the mtl reducer for it.. (sold separately)

Yes, I was just reading about contact coils and spaced coils. Contact coils is what I had in mind too. Yes 28GA 316 is the wire I've ordered. Just as a fun thing, have also ordered some 6 pack of pre made coil rated at 1.0 ohm. Will give both a try.

As soon as I have a hassle free vape setup that just works, I think I'll be able to go cold turkey on the cigarettes. I anyway had a tough time finding the liquid I like, a lot of local brands in India. A lot of experimentation.

Thanks

I agree, Anna - even though the N2 isn't really for me, I still think it's a great starting point for anyone replacing smoking. Best to have drop-in coils when learning, I think. Hey, I took a while to learn for quite a while just how to take a hit right! Would've been too hard to begin with building, as it's kind of intimidating with all the info when you're first starting, no matter how much research you do.

When you get it we have threads here that deal specifically with the Kayfun 5 and how to build it etc.

So, just ask the questions you need once you receive it.. it's an awesome choice!

Grab you up some 26 gauge wire too.. that is the most popular gauge so you will want to experience why for yourself.

If my N2 gets replaced and stops leaking I'll probably use it more than starting to build. I have read so much and it sure is intimidating [emoji849]

But let's see, you never know how this pans out. Maybe I'll just have better luck building than spending my time guessing which hit will he a dry hit. It's almost like Russian roulette for me [emoji4]

For me I wouldn't waste money on the three, but that's because I don't appreciate a tight draw..

It's not much, so I'd just grab a reducer if you think you'll need it but what the 5 did was take the most popular airflow settings for the mtl crowds, but they didn't include the tightest settings in order to get an additional more open draw setting. .

The 5 has one more open draw setting than the 4 had... and one less tighter draw setting than the three had.

Don't worry, I'm positive the 5 will be great for you.

DIY juice is fantastic. With that said, what's the saying I was going to say Rome wasn't invented in a day, but I guess it wasn't built in a day either. Coilbuilding is a great place to start....

I think a lot of folks preferred the K3 to the K5 yes. I might order the reducer, unless your N2 reappears, just so you can kind of experience a tight draw vs a more airy one. Also, clones aren't a TERRIBLE choice to try cheaply while you are trying to decide what to get that's Super Expensive. Fasttech is pretty good about labeling clone vs authentic, but they're a Chinese vendor so there can be a bit of a wait..... But if you decide you don't adore the K5, you can try the others in clone version to get a sense of what you will get. I've ordered many RTA clones prior to starting to buy some originals as I figure out what I like (and can build).
