I am trying to help my bf quit smoking by doing all the research I can with e-cigarettes. There are so many great/helpful information on this forum, which I am so grateful for, but I still cannot understand some of the jargon around here :( Basically, I did my own research on the different parts of the e-cigs:atomizer, cartridges, etc...

We recently had to buy another battery (end piece-the white part) because my bf kept saying that it didn't last long, meaning, he had to keep on re-charging it. The funny this is, when he charges it (USB/wall charger), it would take nearly 4-5 hours. But, when he smokes it, it wouldn't even last more than two hours, not even straight smoking! :( This then causes the "vapes" (?) to be weak, or so he says that the vapor won't come out as strong. He keeps thinking that the atomizers are the problem so he goes out to buy more and more thinking that they're done. Is this true? When we bought it from a vendor in a mall, he told us that each atomizer stick (the brown shorter part) should be around two packs of cigarettes. I am beginning to doubt him now.

I am sorry if this post sounds really newbie...I am really new to smoking in general, and even newer to e-cigs. Please help a gf trying to help her bf quit smoking! (or at least, not get scammed...we've used more than $200 already from this vendor :(...Thank you!!)

P.S. Happy Mother's Day to all those mothers out there :)

PP.S. What are 510 battery and e-liquid..."things"... are they the same thing as the wall charger and atomizer I was talking about? Thank you!

PW, I have not had experience with mall vendors myself, however, they seem to be universally a bad idea. According to many posts on this forum, they seem to sell overpriced cheaply made junk.

The first kit I got was a KR808 kit. The batteries took about 4 hours to charge and lasted about 4 hours. Which is why I bought 4 more batteries so I would always have some charged. That's the disadvantage of the "pen style" e-cigs. (Pen-style means it looks like a real cigarette.) The advantage of these kits is that they are so easy to use.

Sounds like your BF got a cheaply made kit.

BTW the E-liquid is the actual liquid inside the cartridge/cartomizer. The cartridges and cartomizers can be refilled with this liquid. I hope that answers part of your question.

All these numbers you keep seeing, (KR808, 510, etc.) are basically designations for what type of threading the battery uses. (The part where the cartomizer or atomizer screw onto the battery.)

Do you know what kind of kit he bought?

Is he using prefilled cartridges?

Don't worry about sounding too newbie!

When you say you've already spent $200 with this vendor, I have to ask how long your boyfriend has been using e-Cigs. Between the gear and the cartridges, $200 should get you a long way.

Also, mall vendors frequently exaggerate how long a cartridge should last.

A 510 is just a model of e-cigarette (it's what I use, in fact.) I use it with a tank atomizer (often called 510-T) that allows you to attach refillable tanks instead of using cartridges, which are easily refilled by removing them from the e-cig, injecting them with more e-liquid, and then plugging it back into the e-cig. I haven't paid too close attention to how long it takes to charge my battery, but I would estimate it takes an hour to charge and gives me about an hour and a half to two hours of use.

I bought a 500 ml bottle of tobacco-flavored liquid for $125, and it should last me about 6 months. The 510 starter kit was 45 bucks and the 510-T atomizers were 9 bucks, plus a few bucks for some empty tanks.

Thank you so much for your sincere reply.

First, to answer your questions, we bought from a vendor who advertises from "Smoke Free: Duet" or Smoke Free Online E-cigarette Store | Electronic Cigarette E-cig, the Electronic Cigarette Kit. Also, I think...he is using the prefilled cartridges, because we don't need to "re-fill" anything up. All he does is screw onto the battery, a brown shorter piece, which I think is the "cartridge/atomizer." Then once the vapor stops, he just throws that away and screws on a new piece. He too, is using the "pen-style" ones : )

Also, thank you for clarifying the numbers. I didn't know there were different types... That must mean that we did buy the crappy kinds : (....hmm...

I won't suggest anything others can do that but I do have strong opinions about brick & motar stores.....I dont trust them. They have a high overhead so you wont get anything priced very well. Buy from approved ECF suppliers they dont last long if they try to pull the wool over yours eyes. They provide the best products at the best price.

Wow......I feel completely jipped. You're right though. The vendor guy was saying that each cartridge is equivalent to two packs of cigarettes. Then, if we take your experience and words of advice, it does sound like the liquid ones are better. The thing is though, he's not going to be too addicted is he? :x What I mean by that is, if he can just simply re-fill the liquid up, I feel like he's going to puff and puff and just keep re-filling it. I hope that doesn't sound too un-understanding of me. We both want him to quit so... :p if that..makes any sense.

Both you and lemonshrew seem to be using much better kits than he is. Do you think you can sort of tell me where we can get good deals with easy-to-use and long lasting kits online? We definitey will stop going to that vendor. He only starting using the e-cigs from the guy for only two weeks now :( He bought it on April 29th and we used over $200.....

I really hate to suggest you may have wasted your money with the kiosk e-cigs but you probably have. They are not often very good and the refills are terribly expensive.

If you like having a cigarette shaped PV I would recommend a standard joye 510 or a KR808D-1. If you are willing to use something a bit larger, the size of a small cigar I would recommend an eGo or and eGo clone such as Riva 510 T-Rex or kGo.

All of these models are supported by our forum approved suppliers and can easily be refilled with e-liquid from forum suppliers as well.

Some vendors of these models with great prices such as Liberty-flights freedomsmokeusa Vapor4life hoosierecigsupply mypvstore vaporbomb tastyvapor gourmetvapor and mstsbakery all of which can be found in the forum suppliers list at the top of the forum. They all have good products at good prices and excellent customer service.

Nhaler is in your home state and Drew has an excellent reputation here as well.

Thanks so much for the recommendations! I really am going to check on this forum for better deals. I think he personally like the cigarette-looking types better (the slim, long ones). Also, are the models that you recommended the liquid types? I'm beginning to be more curious with the liquid ones too : ) So many people seem to be liking that more...

And I can't believe that vendor said each cartridge was two packs...instead of 2-3 cigarettes. Wow. That is too much of a difference here! : (

I am sooooo sorry- BUT, dont feel bad- (although how can you not when you just wasted 200.00) I think 95% of us all got that first crappy kit and overpsent.

If you can afford it, (I know it will be hard to do right now) you need to get a decent ecig- I prefer the 510- (I actually no longer use the skinny batteries that are the size of cigarettes, I use whats called an ego/riva style, about the size of a small cigar- they last MUCH longer)

Decide what type of juice you think he will want, tabacco flavored? fruit flavored, baked goods (strawberry pie from vapor bomb is sooo good :) )

You will more than likely order from 2 sites. ONE for an ecig, the other for your juice.

You need to buy a 'kit' get at least 2 batteries, maybe 2 attomizers and a few cartridges. I prefer to fill mine- some folks get prefilled ones.

There is a learning curve, and of course frustration and agervation when you first try it. I still dont have it all down. LOL

keep reading this site, you will start to learn what is what-

I have never tried anything other than cartridges and atties OR cartomizers. BUT, I do use both 510 skinny 'cig like' batteries and eGo/Riva larger batteries. they are all 510 threaded.

It sounds like your boyfriend would like vapor4life, they have a very good cigarette shaped model called the VaporKing and a wide variety of prefilled cartomizers and juices that you can use to refill them.

I would get the manual battery model though, automatic batteries can be easily damaged by novice users.

I have a 510, and its the battery style,,it is the size of a real cigarette...so that means its just a battery..u will need an atomizer for it and a cartridge or cartomizer to fill the eliquid into..eliquid is the stuff you vape, with nicotine and flavor added to it. Wall charger is used to plug the battery into to charge it up when it goes dead. The atomizer fits over the 510 battery and has a coil inside, a bridge and a rope that wicks the liquid. You can't see the rope though as it is underneath the bridge in the atomizer. You drop your eliquid into the atomizer to make it vape as the coils burn red when you press the button, kind of like sizzles as it heats up the ejuice and then you inhale that. Hope this helps!

+1 on The V4L recommendation. I got my starter kid from them and am very happy.
Definitely got my $'s worth.
Sorry you got burned on the mall purchase. I can't believe how badly they lie and rip people off.

I am really loving this forum! At first, I was a bit nervous in making my first post, thinking I would sound too noob for people to post back seriously, but everyone here is more than generous!

Anyways, thank you! Then to continue with your recommendations, honestly at this point, I am willing to pay for anything if I can help him quit. I've been so worried that cigarettes would kill him someday :/... If I were to buy that small cig looking one that you use, how much would that approximately cost? We're both currently students...so if it's like more than $300..that would be... :X a big ouchie for me and him...
And he doesn't really like the flavored ones XD. In fact, me who doesn't like smoking, was a little tempted to try one when I saw the vendor from the mall selling like strawberry, vanilla, and other fruity flavors! I was like....wow. But he personally like the simple, normal ones haha.... I think the one you're talking about may be good too..I'm just really looking for something that will LAST long....both the battery and cartridges....because when he can't use them....he really urges for the real cigarettes : (

Anyhow, if I want to buy the 510 one...where would be a trustable/ good quality/ fair-priced vendor from this site (or elsewhere)? I really don't want to be scammed again...... :x

BTW, love your profile name. Good luck quitting and happy mother's day : )

I second that opinion regarding Drew and his crew at NHaler. I live in Texas and get orders from him in 3 days, so with him being close to you, would probably be really fast, his prices are good, his service is excellent and I have NEVER EVER had that crew NOT stand behind a product sold. His liquid is really good too and the selection of models is very nice. Parts and accessories available if needed.

THANK YOU. Another great recommendation! I will have to go through all these different recommendations and see which he likes best! You guys are AWESOME.

And, I know, cookiebun!! Ripping off two poor (literally) students...... Unfortunately, this is the world we live in today. But still, I'm glad to know that we have fellow people like on this site who are so helpful and sincere.

Hmmmm...your description sounds interesting! : ) It sounds like something he would very much like haha. Seems like most people are recommending the 510....I will tell him about this!
