OK, my 901 I have thrown in the trash.
I want vapor, lots of vapor.
I want convenience, no constant refillig/dripping.
I want flavor, w/ no burning or funky tastes.
I want to go cartomizers.
So I am starting from scratch and can buy whatever I need to.

1. should I go high voltage?
2. 501 or 808 cartomizers?
3. if 501 or 801 cartomizers, then what about the rest of the setup? what batteries to use? do I buy a 501 or 808 setup? do I get something like a prodigy/screwdriver? If I buy a prodigy, do I still need to buy a 501 or 808 to connect to the prodigy or does it connect to the cartomizer directly?:D

I'm fairly new myself and I had many of the same thoughts and requirements that you have. I'll tell you what I purchased to satisfy this need and I'll also tell you that I'm very happy with my decision.
I bought a Prodigy V3 and been using it for over 1 week. I'm using it as a 6 volt device with the batteries provided in the starter kit, but you can also use as a 3.7 volt device if you buy a different battery from their website ( I think it's the AW 17670). With this device you will have the versatility of using dual voltage 6 volt and 3.7 volt. This device is solid and built to last. It produces tons of vapor at 6 volts. I had many 510 attys and carts so I purchased the 510 version. I haven't used at 3.7 volts yet because I don't have the battery. The cartomizers give great taste and vapor with this device. I've had no issues with mine other than to say that I'm using it all the time and I've had to clean the contacts and switch twice to keep it in top performance. Every time I clean it, I also add noalox to the contacts and wipe clean the screw top. Make sure your screw is tightened. You can follow the maintenance directions provided in the Puresmoker forum. I'm really liking the bottom switch and the fact that I can lock it when I'm not using it, a great safety feature. Overall, I think it is an excellent device and priced very reasonably considering: ease of use, versatility, performance and durability.
Best of luck to you

I use 510 cartos from eastmall, the hard cap ones. I also use 808 cartos from v4l. The 510 lasts longer without the burning taste and good flavor. Generally I have been adding a little more vg when using the 510 cartos so that does help with the vapor. The new premium v4l 808 cartos have great vapor compared to their old cartos. But, they don't hold as much juice and get the burning taste and get hot faster. I know they have the new cool carts but I haven't tried them yet. So depending on my mood or vapor need at the time, that is how I pick.

If you get one kind, say the 510 and want to try an 808 you can buy an adapter for a few dollars so you don't have to buy both sets to try them out.

The Indulgence is a pretty good first time mod. 60-ish bucks. Does 3.7V with threads for m401, 801, 901 and 510. So it covers all the bases as far as atomizers. Has an optional (25-ish) extender battery cup with batteries for 6V vaping. Also has a USB passthru option (20-ish). I got mine as a mega kit for 105 bucks which came with the basic setup + extender + batteries + USB passthru + an assortment of HV/LR and regular atomizers from vaporjunction:

Ultimate Indulgence 6V Kit (Titanium) [VJK006] - $104.95 : VaporJunction, E-Cigarette Supply

The factory is out of stock so it'll be a few weeks for more to show up. I've also seen a $100 kit with just the basics of base kit + extender w/batteries + USB.

is it true that the v3 has a metal tip? I don't like the feel of metal in my mouth

Do you mean the zip tip or drip tip? It doesn't come with one but you can order plastic drip tips, if you prefer, from many vendors or use cartomizers or regular plastic cartos. A lot of mods don't come with any tips, just the unit, maybe batteries with charger and the adapter for the style atty of your choice. Some vendors like to show a picture of their mods with a metal tip because it shows how the entire mod would look. In some cases, if the mod is metal, it looks cool with the metal drip tip.

I wouldn't rush into a mod (and certainly not a high voltage one) just yet. Find an atomizer/cartomizer you like and then decide how you want to improve the battery life.

My comparative review points out some pros and cons of the Kr8 and the 510. You can use either with virtually any mod.

An alternative to dripping or cartomizers is "AFS" (although I like to call it semi-automatic juice injection), such as the WetBox or MrPuffer.
