Not too many I would imagine. The 808D is a great starter device, but even a move to an ego has benefits in battery life from here. Eventually, most of us want more vapor, better throat hit, prolonged battery life and more all around options. Most of us keep our starter devices for back-ups, but there just comes a time when those starter devices don't satisfy our needs any longer.

I started with the 808, but moved to the 510 eGo T, mainly because the battery lasts so much longer. Still have and use the 808's for back up, and if I go out for a short time, but at home I run through them much too quickly. I have very small hands too, but quickly got used to the bigger size. As you'll need more than one battery anyway, you could try buying one of each, to see which you get along with better. Don't worry about carto compatibility - you an get 808 to 510 adapters, and vice versa.

Just got an 808 myself (Halo, in fact) and I agree with everyone else, prefilled cartos are nice but probably not the way to go long-term. Also, the atomizers in those empty cartos still work, seems kind of a waste to toss them out. (Too bad there's not a carto recycling program, maybe like the ones they do for printer ink carts at some office supply stores.) You could also pull out the polyfill from a used carto and use it as an atomizer, or so I hear.

Also, at least for Halo supplies, the math works out to something like $2/ml for prefilled cartos, and ~$.75/ml for just juice, so there's that.

Heh, weaning off...I eventually got to smoking American Spirits Black a third at a time, and keeping the unused portion in a pill bottle. I guess that's what I'm going to miss most in this transition to PVs, the visual feedback of a cig that tells me exactly how much I've smoked. Very easy to over do it with a PV.

Hello from a fellow local! I started with an eGo-T from Good Prophets, this was back when he still had his retail store up near the Green Dragon in Ephrata - unfortunately that's gone. I've only found one other local brick and mortar store where you can actually go and get your questions answered in person, which I highly recommend for someone such as yourself with a lot of questions. Try Jay's Engraving and Gift (yeah, I know, doesn't sound like the kind of place you'd go) over at Morningstar Marketplace, 5309 Lincoln Hwy W, Thomasville - it's over in York County. He's located in the first big building from the road (there's 3 I believe). It took me about 30 minutes to drive from Lancaster. Anyway, he's got everything from 510 kits to eGo's, some larger kits, replacement batteries and a nice selection of liquid - I just picked up a Lavatube from the guy last week. I think the market is Saturday and Sundays only. Give it a try, sure beats anything you'll find in a regular smoke shop around here. Good luck!

If you're a 2 PAD smoker, you will probably be vaping a lot. The battery life of the 808 and 510 slim e-cigs may become an issue for you. I started w/ a 510 slim e-cig and my wife started w/ 808's. A month into vaping and I was tired of always switching and charging batteries. I moved to a Joye eGo and life was better. Instead of switching batteries every couple hours I could go 5-6 hrs on 1 battery.

My wife didn't want a larger profile e-cig until she saw my eGo in person - not really that much longer in length and yes a bitter larger in diameter. But she liked it 'straight away' for it's size and battery life. The form factor of the eGo, k-go's, Riva's does not take long to get used to and the convenience of much longer battery life is worth it - IMHO.

I feel like I've moved backwards in the natural progression: I started with the eGo system (ok, I used the 510 for about 10 days and then upgraded) but I switched to the little vapor4life 808 kit about a year ago and I still love it. Yeah, I need to have a PCC (personal charging case) because the batteries need to be changed often... and I cringe at the cost of the disposable cartomizers (which I use and toss) but all in all I'm still paying less than I did when I smoked.

I think it's uncommon for someone to start with a small battery model (like the one I use), manual batteries (like I use) and disposable cartomizers (like I use) and not end up upgrading within a few months. But, even if you but it and try it and end up switching to a different (read: bigger) system you still will save money compared with smoking.

I started vaping 10/5/11 using 808 and immediately put down the analogs after 30+ years. I needed something that simulated smoking as closely as possible. I would not have been comfortable with something non-cigarette like. The habit and ritual as well as the nic were and still are important to me. I have not felt the need to change anything at this point. I do use juice and refill carts for on the go and use clearomizers at home. I am happily smoke free and LOVE gaping.

I started with a 510 cartridge-atomizer-battery stick. It was good, but when I left my charger at work, I had to replace it, and the only local supplier only sold ego-t, so I got one. I loved it for a few weeks, when I read a post on here talking about the Volt from smokelessimage.com. I bought a starter kit, and I must say, it is very similar in size to an analog, and mor consistent than the other e cigs I have tried. I use some pre-filled cartos, but mostly I buy blanks from smokeless image and liquids from various vendors and I can refill them several times. The only problem is that you won't survive without a spare battery fully charged at all times. If you're around a computer alot, I highly recommend a pass-thru. Good luck to you.

You mean "a 510" (as in Joye 510, the slim mini, not Ego or Riva 510 the fat battery models). And I am assuming by 808 you mean KR808D-1, not the little 808A/B nobody sells or uses.

Basic 510 is shorter than the KR8 I recommend - I recommend the middle size of KR8 which is the standard/78mm battery which makes a 120mm ecig. A standard 510 with cartomizer makes a 100mm ecig. I prefer the long xl 510 which makes 128mm ecig w/ a carto but that is not the one most talk about.

Basic 510 - 180mah (about 1.8 hours of moderate vaping)
Standard/78mm battery KR8 - 280mah

I started on a weaker slim model but I started vaping both 510 and KR8 (MANUALS ONLY!) about 1 month into vaping and I still mostly vape the pair after a year. After I go my nic down pretty low I added some big battery models and mods (3.7v) to my collecyion for when I want bigger hits. Everything is manual (harder to kill, less work, easier to get a good drag/hit every time). I was a lights smoker 1.5-2PAD but over my decades of smoking I smoked full-stength and ultralights at various times.

So I do still mostly vape manual KR8 and manual 510 but I use them as a pair, each with a contrasting flavor cartomizer. And I have chargers at work and carry a 650mah 510-threaded charged 3.7v device as a backup or for when I want more heat out of the 510. The KR8's I use are V4L ones for their custom 10+ second cutoff because the 5 second cutoff of the others is sometimes not enough time to get a good drag on a manual (since with a manual you want to press the button in 1-2 seconds early so nice vapor is waiting when you start dragging). One main reason I use them is to have 2 contrasting flavors wherever I go. I can grab whichever I want to drag and can drop them both in my pocket or little purse. I would say the KR8 is warmer/stronger (3.7v w/ a 2.5-2.6 ohm carto which is about the hottest carto you can use on a slim ecig) and the 510 manual w/ cartomizer (3.4v or so w/ Boge 3 ohm) is cooler - nice flavor.

BUT - you need to realize the following things about slim ecigs. Those are only the 2 most recommend models of slim ecigs. Many people here do not recommend slim ecigs. They have short battery life and they cannot use the hotter low resistance cartomizers or atomizers. If you are a heavy smoker, a full strength smoker, a hot heavy dragger, then slim ecigs may not hold you for a month, never mind a year. And be aware most people by a 2nd ecig model by the end of the first month. Don't count on the choice you make today being what you want next month.

I do think more people probably stick with KR8 than stick with 510. Also with KR8 you can start with prefilled cartomizers. But 510 comes with atomizer + cartridge which most find to be an annoying way to vape so most switch to blank cartomizers they fill themselves.

Thanks guys for all your advice and especial thanks to randomness for the local b-and-m recommendation.

Wow, you going to be heavy duty vaper at 10 per week!
Lol, I don't know how many I will actually use a week, but I figure it's better to budget high since I'm a heavy smoker. The one thing I don't want to do is run out of cartomizers and then turn back to analogs. :(

It seems like many of you plan to keep on vaping. Does anyone here vape with the intention of stopping altogether? Like I mentioned, I want to wean myself off of nicotine completely. The patch almost worked for me but I found I missed the sensation of inhaling and picked up the cancer sticks again, which is why I hope vaping will help me quit for good.
