Newbie Vaper Gear

I guess as a new forum member, I probably should not be plastering text all over the place. However since I am a firm believer in Freedom of Speech, I think that I will exercise some. When I was first approached with this idea of vaping, I was about as skeptical as a person could get. I had zero faith, in other words. However since that time, I have learned a few things along the way. One situation or factor that I am certain of is the fact that a person MUST obtain proper vaping supplies, gear and so forth in order to making your vaping experience a success especially if you are using vaping as an aid to stop using commercial tobacco products. Right off the bat here, I am in full realization that there exist literally hundreds of options or decisions on the open market. The looming question will most likely be "What should I buy to get started"..?? I am a self admitted newbie to vaping and I had to cross this bridge as well. I was very fortunate because I had a fellow forum member here (my brother) give me many, many wise suggestions.

I am just throwing out this information for any beginner that I may be able to help. What I am really focused in on, is those poor people that are helplessly hooked on conspiracy sticks meaning cigarettes. This applies to "smokeless tobacco" as well. Right off the bat, I fully realize that folks whom are investigating vaping as an alternative to commercial tobacco use, probably start freaking out about the initial expense. I can assure you that it would be most wise to flip your thinking around..!! In my particular case, cigarette smoking was costing me $640.00 per month which adds up to $6,480.00 per year. I used to smoke these really expensive "Indian Organic" cigarettes which were supposed to be non-addictive and not contain any additives, etc. This was a LIE. In all reality, no matter what kind of vaporizer you choose, or e-juices or tanks (blah, blah), these small investments WILL be far less expensive compared to your old tobacco habit which is costing you a small fortune right now.

Now then, this is not a "show and tell" situation here for me. As stated, I am already fully aware of the fact that MANY items are for sale when it comes to this world of vaping. And I also know that some of this stuff is pure junk. About all that I can really and truly do here is give you a list of MY gear or supplies and then allow you to make up your mind for yourself. Also, let it be known that I do NOT work for any of these companies, I receive no royalties of any kind nor do I get paid for promoting ANY of these items that I shall list. At this point in time, this is my vaping setup and you are most welcome to go your own merry way.

#1. My one and only vaporizer is a KangerTech Subox Mini mod or "box".
#2. I use a Kanger SubTank Plus which was not specifically designed for the mod above.
#3. From the very beginning, I have used 0.5 OHM Kanger OCC replacement coils. There are other type coils available and you can even build your own.
#4. My Subox Mini mod runs off of ONE battery which so happens to be an Efest 18650 3.7 volt 3100 mAh rechargeable type. You need to purchase PROPER batteries for these mods.
#5. I use a Nitecore Digi 2 charger for these batteries. I do NOT try to charge up my mod with that little mickey mouse mini USB cable that comes with.
#6. E-JUICE. This product is of utmost importance. If you purchase e-juice or e-liquid that is wrong for your body's needs, you WILL be right back to smoking death sticks. Starting out, I am recommending either Mystique Vapor Hyperion E-Juice OR Space Jam Eclipse E-Juice. I also would not go over 12 mg's strength in NICOTINE. I messed around with just enough of these various e-juices to know that you CAN end up with some really rough stuff that will irritate your throat and lungs. You can also make or produce your own e-juices or e-liquids.
#7. One of the wisest decisions that you can make is to purchase a "KangerTech Subox Mini STARTER KIT". Everything you need to get started is in that kit except for the appropriate batteries, a charger and some e-juice. The "stock" tank that comes with this kit is a Kanger Subox Mini Tank which holds 4.5 ml's of E-juice. The larger tank that I am using right now holds 7 ml's of e-juice. You need not worry about this larger tank nonsense, because this is just something I tried. It is NOT a necessary object to purchase.

Well I know that this entire post is up for complete debate. I will probably engage in none of it. When I quit smoking commercial coffin nails....I did the COLD TURKEY dance. I did not pacify this nasty habit by sneaking or hot boxing a cigarette once in awhile. Point being, is the above named gear and equipment is exactly what I used to get this job done. Plain and simple. At any rate, I hope that this post HELPED somebody. This is all I care about > :)

TL;DR. But I think the gist of it is "vaping is good, smokers should start with good low nic juice and a sub-ohm setup"?
I agree with this, but many members here prefer tootle puffing and is how they quit smoking. I think each person really just needs to find something that works for them.

That being said, since you are into this vaping thing now and like lung-hitting the good juices, you should try some RDAs. And maybe a mech mod too.

I'd be inclined to agree with his recommendation of the subox kit as a first. That's a $65 setup, not much more than a couple ego/ce4's, and of much better quality as far as build and vaping goes. Not necessity the best, of course but a newbie doesn't need to start with top of the line, and you can tootle puff that kit-kinda. I really dislike the ego. Too finicky, and I went through 2-3 batteries a day. I think I would have had an easier time of I got my subox 3 years ago
of course, opinions are like ***holes, though

Sorry to tell you that this battery is not good for the mod you are using. Efest is know for their exaggerated amp ratings. This battery is known to only have a CDR of between 6A-10A. The Subox Mini really needs a 20A CDR battery (like the Samsung 25r).

Here's a blog post by @Baditude (one of ECF's battery experts).

Purple Efest Batteries not as Advertised
* A cautionary blog that reveals that the purple Efest batteries may not have the specifications advertised. Also includes a commentary on "continuous discharge ratings" vs "pulse discharge ratings" of battery specs.

Some more blogs by @Mooch (ECF's other battery expert).

* No matter what is printed on the battery wrapper: There are no 18650 batteries with a genuine rating over 30A!
* Links to all his battery tests to date: List of My Battery Tests | Mooch's Blog
* Picking a Safe Battery to Vape With: Table of 18650 Battery Safety Grades | Mooch's Blog

BATTERIES - WHERE TO BUY

Only buy batteries from a reputable supplier (not ebay or Amazon) as there are many counterfeit batteries being sold. Here are several reputable battery suppliers in the US.

* RTD Vapor
* Illumination Supply
* Lighthound
* Orbtronics

    Yeah Susan, believe it or not, I snagged the batteries for him ..... Of course, I know he should be using better bench marked batteries. It was my mistake as I was on a site getting stuff ordered for him and all within about 3 minutes time as he was waiting for me to get back to him. No worries, I will get him some Sony VTC 4's or some good ole r25's....... Thanks for noticing as it may have bypassed my attention.

    Shame on you. Shame. Shame. Shame. Someone walking behind you ringing a bell saying shame with each ring.

    You would have to watch Game Of Thrones to get that.

    Yeah... Most of my life in electronics :eek:.... Shame on me is an understatement....... My Brother probably thinks I am intentionally trying to blow him up :w00t: ......... In all my days in electronics I never had to deal with false specs/ratings........ When you selected an electronics component for a task then you could pretty well be rest assured that it's rating fell within it's stated tolerances. Not so with some of the makers of these batteries and something I am not used to dealing with :grr: .... At any rate, I will get him some good ones. I am just glad it was noticed because I may have not even paid much attention.

    You're a good man for getting him on this journey and getting him off the smokes. Congratulations to you both.

    The only thing I'd add to this is a Zample Box subscription. We are new (6 months) to vaping as well and without ZB id never have found IF's Awakening or CL's Vader.

    I don't use the same equipment but it's such a personal decision. I do COMPLETELY agree however .. Get some help and buy a decent rig/consumables out of the box. Your pocketbook will thank you.

    He probably won't feel that way if I keep pointing him towards something that may blow him up :w00t: ...... We all make mistakes I suppose... What makes me irritated is I know better concerning these miserable battery manufacturers but yet I was in too big of a hurry to get stuff ordered for him..... No matter, we will get it fixed

    Thanks for the kind words..... I just wanted to see him get off the commie sticks, which he has done. If someone would have told me two months ago that he would be quitting smoking I wouldn't have thought it possible. So, it was my honor to introduce vaping to him.

    40 years is a long habit to break. I was a 20 year smoker myself and it is hard to do. Very cool that you helped him through it, but also he had to have a strong desire to change as well.

    And yes everyone makes mistakes, mine are just too numerous to name here and would be off topic.

    well, 20 years is a long time as well.... You need to pat yourself on the back as well..... Yes, he did have a strong desire to quit...... I selected the subox mini for him as it works well for beginners as well as for advanced users. Plus I am at his side (via the internet) to help coach him so it wasn't like he was all alone and starting out with a high powered mod and totally clueless...... Don't want to do his talking for him as I am sure he will pop in here but I do know he is getting along good with the subbox and he really likes it.

    @AXIOM_1, don't beat yourself up. What happened to you can happen happen to anyone. Believe it.

    I use to use a mod that required stacked batteries, I never rotated them. Didn't know that stacking could be dangerous, didn't know that rotating was important.

    What saved me (back then, 6 years ago) was I was using a carto/cartotank (+2Ω coil).

    Thank Gawd for +2 ohm coils :rolleyes: Yes but Susan you were unaware at the time. You had an excuse.... Myself on the other hand is totally aware of the battery situation and should not be making mistakes like that. Haste makes waste and I was in a big hurry. Looked at the specs and thought "Good enough" all without remembering about the purple efest's that I know very well are often over rated..... Nah I am not beating myself up it's just that I know better so it is a tad bit irritating.

    So Susan, how did you know you goofed up with the stacked batteries? Did someone point it out? I bet that felt a bit "awkward" lol

    Many of us did it 6 years ago. Many mechanicals back then used a different sized battery that required stacking - CR123A (3v). I don't even remember if there were 18xxx sized mech mods as I was not on this forum or any forum.

    Fortunately I move on from my mech mod that used this sized battery that required stacking as soon as I found a mech mod that used an 18650 sized battery.

    It was only when I joined this forum (1.5 years ago) and read Baditudes blog that I learned about the dangers of stacking batteries.

    Awww I see.......... Well, the important thing is you learned.... Yeah, lots of folks on here are addicted to their mech mods but personally I don't care much for them, especially in the hands of new vapers.... I am glad that regulated devices were developed. Far safer in my opinion for both beginners/advanced users. In my line of thinking, it doesn't matter if a person is a beginner to electricity or someone like myself who is very schooled in the subject because even knowledgeable people make mistakes and the protection/regulation built into regulated mods sure do help in reducing risks made from said mistakes.

    +1 on this.

    I don't recommend mechanicals/unregulated devises to anyone but am more than willing to educate someone who wants one if they demonstrate a willingness to learn and do their homework.

    I use many different devises and love them all for many different reasons. Use more regulated devises than unregulated, mainly due to battery drain. Love buck/boost circuitry!:)

    If Rob at Reosmods would put that in his Wooden box mods I could have it all.:)
