+1 on this.

I don't recommend mechanicals/unregulated devises to anyone but am more than willing to educate someone who wants one if they demonstrate a willingness to learn and do their homework.

I use many different devises and love them all for many different reasons. Use more regulated devises than unregulated, mainly due to battery drain. Love buck/boost circuitry!:)

If Rob at Reosmods would put that in his Wooden box mods I could have it all.:)
I appreciate the advice :thumb:

Awww I see.......... Well, the important thing is you learned.... Yeah, lots of folks on here are addicted to their mech mods but personally I don't care much for them, especially in the hands of new vapers.... I am glad that regulated devices were developed. Far safer in my opinion for both beginners/advanced users. In my line of thinking, it doesn't matter if a person is a beginner to electricity or someone like myself who is very schooled in the subject because even knowledgeable people make mistakes and the protection/regulation built into regulated mods sure do help in reducing risks made from said mistakes.
Most informative. Thanks for the information :hubba:

Thank Gawd for +2 ohm coils  Yes but Susan you were unaware at the time. You had an excuse.... Myself on the other hand is totally aware of the battery situation and should not be making mistakes like that. Haste makes waste and I was in a big hurry. Looked at the specs and thought "Good enough" all without remembering about the purple efest's that I know very well are often over rated..... Nah I am not beating myself up it's just that I know better so it is a tad bit irritating.

So Susan, how did you know you goofed up with the stacked batteries? Did someone point it out? I bet that felt a bit "awkward" lol
Well I am certainly not beating myself up over anything. I just followed advise. These Efest batteries I had listed seem to be working just fine. I thank you for the input :|

@AXIOM_1, don't beat yourself up. What happened to you can happen happen to anyone. Believe it.

I use to use a mod that required stacked batteries, I never rotated them. Didn't know that stacking could be dangerous, didn't know that rotating was important.

What saved me (back then, 6 years ago) was I was using a carto/cartotank (+2Ω coil).
I was totally unaware of the entire science of vaping six years ago. You will please have to forgive me :w00t:

@Baditude (one of our battery experts) in talking about pros/cons regulated vs unregulated. Unregulated can be wired (i.e. switch) or can be purely mechanical.
______________

Pro's for a Mechanical APV:
  • Ability to sub-ohm. Early regulated devices were not designed to sub-ohm; recently the higher wattage regulated APV's can vape sub-ohm, but with all of that power the same effect can be obtained with normal resistance coils.
  • Durability and longevity. With no internal electronics to fail, a mech is considered to be a more durable choice over a regulated APV.
  • Aesthetics. Many prefer the simple and elegant appearance of a mechanical.
  • Simplicity. A mechanical is simply a glorified battery holder, fire button, and 510 connector.
Cons for a Mechanical APV:
  • No processor protection circuitry. This feature protects against many short circuits, reverse battery protection, over-heating, over-discharging the battery, etc. Without this feature, YOU THE USER must be constantly aware of potential dangers of short circuits. The vast majority of mechanical mods use a bottom-firing switch; IMO these may result in a potential auto-firing event if the APV is set down on its bottom or placed in a pocket. Some of these have a locking mechanism to prevent auto-firing, but who locks their fire switch each and every time they stop vaping?
  • The quality of the vaping experience will gradually and progressively decline over the course of the battery used between charges.
  • The only way to change the vaping experience is to change the atomizer (coil) resistance (ohms).
Pro's for Regulated APV's:
  • Protection circuitry against short circuits.
  • Power regulation. You can increase or decrease the voltage or wattage to suit your vaping preference. It will also keep your chosen power output constant regardless of the charge on the battery.
  • Built-in voltage and resistance meters.
  • Some regulated mods use a built-in, rechargeable (non-removeable) battery using a common USB charging cable.
Cons of Regulated APV:
  • Often not as durable as a mechanical mod, because of the internal electrical components.
  • Until the advent of the more recent high wattage APV's, they could not power sub-ohm.
  • Aesthetics. Often not as physically attractive as many of the finer mechanical mods.

I use both a regulated tube mod and a mechanical tube mod, on a daily basis. I like both, for different reasons. I'm not particularly a fan of the box mods.

well, 20 years is a long time as well.... You need to pat yourself on the back as well..... Yes, he did have a strong desire to quit...... I selected the subox mini for him as it works well for beginners as well as for advanced users. Plus I am at his side (via the internet) to help coach him so it wasn't like he was all alone and starting out with a high powered mod and totally clueless...... Don't want to do his talking for him as I am sure he will pop in here but I do know he is getting along good with the subbox and he really likes it.
I am surely sorry I posted about batteries. Don't think I will bring this subject up for awhile. I really appreciate the valuable knowledge however

To be totally honest, this entire post about MY "newbie gear" is working out just fine for me. I have zero complaints, batteries included :headbang:

You might enjoy this. 4 Stages in Vaping.

This is debated all over the forum. Be you a "Tootle Puffer", a "Modwomper" or "Plume Plumer". And then someone asks the question "Why do we have to have all these names? Can't we all just get along? We should be united not divided.

And around and around we go. All in fun (of course). Well, mostly in fun. Some members get their "undies" all in a bunch. Mods (moderators) sometime have to step in. Delete a few posts. Give a few warnings. Wave the ban hammer. Pull out the timeclock.

I find it rather amusing.

Yes my brother is quite a "pistol" all right. Years ago, he used to smoke more than my Glock 20 does. Susan, I appreciated the YouTube video. It was great!! I have 169 videos on YouTube myself, but only a few devoted to vaping. Why? Because I am a inexperienced newbie. I wonder how many times I will have to confess that? >
