Hello everyone! After lurking here for a week or so, and finally trying my first E-Cig today I have a few questions. When you first started did it taste funny to you? I have tried both the Menthol low nic, and Regular flavor high nic. They tasted the same to me. The aftertaste has even given me a slight headache (which very well could be from me not having a cup of coffee yet so, I have some brewing as I type this). Also, my friend gets alot of vapor when she smokes it, but I don't. So far, outside of the funky taste and aftertaste I love it. Any suggestions? If it makes any difference she bought the dse901 from PureSmoker. He shipped really fast, and from the reviews I've read, she chose a good model.

I''ve had the regular high carts that come with the DSE901 and they tasted like those inhilators, don't know if you tried them they're NRT. I've now got the totally wicked marlboro e-liquid and it's better. There's no horrible taste but to be honest there's not really any taste at all. It still gives you that sort of tingling sensation in your mouth as well but it is better.... sorry I can't really explain why.

I see alot of people recommending carts only for n00bs but personally I feel there is no question that e-liquid should be the first thing you buy after a starter kit. I was going through about 3 of those carts a day but with the juice you just top up each time you really want a cig and it's quite a good size bottle so a couple of drops before each session seems far better than a new cart every 2 or so.

I agree, I wouldn't recommend newbies buy loads of cartridges, a couple of bottles of juice would be better.

When I first tried esmoking I couldn't stand the harshness on my throat, it really irritated me. I ended up squeezing the juice from the cartridges and diluting it with glycerine and flavourings. I've since found eliquid that I like but it's handy to be able to mix your own too, you can get tastes just the way you like them.

Welcome to the forum Liz.

Hi Liz, welcome to the forum. The carts that come with the kit are awful. The dealer I bought mine from includes a bottle of liquid in her kits. I started out with the cartridges, a bottle of tobacco flavor liquid, and a bottle of 555 flavor liquid. I really detest the tobacco flavor. It gives a good throat hit, but the flavor is nasty, so I added some imitation vanilla extract to it (after making sure the ingredients are safe) to make it bearable. The 555 was a little sweeter and I liked it a lot more. Now I have bought apple, vanilla, and canteloupe from Puresmoker. The canteloupe is way too strong - like Jolly Rancher candies. The vanilla is so subtle I can't taste anything but mildly sweet. The apple actually tastes like watered down apple juice. Until you find the flavor that is right for you, you are going to have to deal with some flavors that are not so wonderful.

My suggestion: try some liquid. You can get lots of different flavors, including chocolate and coffee - my next purchase. Just don't give up the e-smoking thing over taste. You could also read a little about the DIY liquid and tinker a little with making a flavor you like.

I forgot all about the other issue. A long, patient draw works best. You want to suck on the mouthpiece just hard enough to light the led on the end and maintain that as long as possible. When the led flashes, then inhale. I still try to take short, hard draws and it is almost fruitless every time. When I am angry, frustrated, or desparate for nicotine I tend to do the old cigarette way. This is part of the learning curve, you'll get the hang of it.

I've only been using an E-Cig for about 3 weeks myself, so probably not the best person to help out, but here are my views...

Yes, E-Cigs taste 'funny' when switching from regular cigs. I guess this is just down to them being completely different. You quickly get used to the taste, and I am sure you will soon find that you actually prefer the E-Cig taste to that of regular cigarettes.

As others here have said the carts that come with E-Cigs seem to be generally rubbish. I would get what you can out of them, but then switch to liquid as soon as you can.

The liquid has a much bolder flavour. So far I have tried Totally Wicked Cherry, Liquorice, and Coffee. Cherry had the strongest flavour but Coffee is my favourite and the one I feel I will settle on as my regular smoke. Though dont expect it to instantly have a strong taste unless you have run the atomiser completely dry. Have to get rid of what is in there already before you get the full effect.

As for the headache, I wouldn't be surprised if that is down to you simply having more nicotine than you are used to. From what I can tell Nicotine headaches are common for new users, especially during the stage of using it constantly trying to work out the best way to smoke it. Your body will adjust and that will pass quickly.

As for the amount of vapour... just stick to it. I can't explain it, but either my atomiser has 'settled in' or I have just learnt how best to smoke, because I constantly get way more vapour now than I did at first, with the same atomiser and battery, and when I put one of my few remaining original cartridges on. Just give it a week or so and you will find things fall into place.

Overall, just stick with it. You will soon find yourself loving it and getting a good smoke from your E-Cig every time :)
