I recently purchased a Joye 510 and have a few questions. This is my first day with the ecig. My first few hits seem great, i get a lot of vapor, good throat hit etc. However, after a few minutes with it, it starts to taste a little like burnt plastic. I immediately stopped, checked the cart which seemed to be a tad dry on top. I purchased some e-liquid, which shipped to me before my 510 even got to me, so i put a few drops in...still same problem.

It seems to vape great for 5 or 10 drags, then somehow stops. I keep wondering if im using the manual switch correctly, etc.

I read here to try and put a drop or two onto the atomizer, to see if results are any better. Same issue it seems. Any ideas for those of you with this experience? Do i just have to break it in? is it a bad cart? i'm somewhat frustrated, and sadly am smoking an analog right now.

thanks in advance, this forum is great and i hope to keep with the 510 and vaping!

Welcome Barry,
Sorry have to ask...did you charge these for a few hours? They come with a slight charge, that's why I am asking.

Take off your atty and blow it out. Blow into where it attaches to your battery. It sounds like when you dripped you flooded it, especially if you get lil gurgling sounds. Once that is done look at your cart and if you have tweezers or a paperclick, unbend that and pull up a tad on your filler. Shifting it will allow you to see if it is dry and may bring juice back to the top. Now when you add to your cart you don't want to see visible liquid, just wet. Now using a manual batt you are going to have to have that button down on your whole draw.

And like I asked earlier about the battery charge, if there is no LED lit at the end, your batt is dead.

These take some playing around with and fiddling, and you will get used to it. It does not smoke like an analog.

Hope that helps some.

Hey,

With an e-cig it takes some time to master how to use it. I like to think its like packing a pipe. It takes practice and doing it right, is rewarding, of course learning is a pain.

First thing, carts suck. You have been lied to that they last the same as a pack. Anything more that 5-10 puffs and you are very lucky.

What you need to do is rely on dripping. About 3 drops on the atty, even without at cart, and enjoy for around 10 consitent puffs, and repeat.

what works for me, I use an 810, is 3 drops of the atty, and 2 on the used cart. That lasts a whole smoke break for me.

@C2girl: yeah, i made sure to fully charge the battery. Technically got the 510 yesterday, read the instructions and decided it would be a good idea to follow them and charge the battery fully. Whats one more evening of analogs after about 6 years of smoking... and as for dripping, i DID get a gurgling noise, so i will take your advice there. I've noticed "learning" to use the cig seems to take getting used to.

@props76: i guess i didn't realize how much maintenance these things are, and that carts do indeed suck. I will be trying your methods as well, and did seem to have some success putting 2 drops on the atty. I was nervous to put another one on there lol.

Actually, the first thing that you really have to understand that Props76 is a die-hard dripping fanatic and considers any other method (including the original design intent) to be a waste of time. But, he is wrong. Dead wrong.

While carts aren't the equivalent to a half a pack of analogs, the 5-10 puffs comment is asinine. A properly set up 510 will drain an entire cartridge with little or no degradation in vapor production. And depending on the drop size, we're talking about ~15 drops.

At this early stage of the game you need to learn the difference between a flooded atty, and one that is starving for liquid. Whne it is starving for liquid you will get a bit of a burnt taste and the vapor production will wither. When it is flooded, you will often hear some gurgling, the vapor production will also wither, and the atty may get quite hot.

If you are getting "starvation" after only a few vapes.. then your cartridge isn't properly feeding liquid to the atty. This can be due to the cartridge filler not contacting the wick, marginal cartridge function (see topics regarding PTB, the "Straw mod", and the like), or you may just have a bad atty.

Once you get it right.... you will get a lot of vapor from a filled cart and it will be somewhat hassle free.

First, let me say thank you all for the great info! This evening i got a chance to really sit down and comb it all over.

@kristin: that FAQ link was amazing. i tried the staw mod and its working great so far. the 510 is vaping like a champ now!

@scottbee: i think im starting to "feel" the difference with a dry or saturated atty.

again, thanks all for the help!

I have 3 atomizers and one works great, the other 2 not so much. The one that works good i have been using for almost a week. The other 2 are new. One i have rinsed out twice (once due to flavor change cuz the first one was horrible). Both I blew out the primer fluid. I get some vapor from primer puffs which i dont inhale. Very little to no vapor afterward (inhaled), even if i let the atomizer sit cart side up for a while. Battery is fully charged. What am i doing wrong? Is there anything more I can do? I have read quite a bit on this forum, but i am a little overwhelmed and dont feel like going thru a bunch of trial and error and ruin my attys.

Thanks for any help you can give!

To some extent.. sadly.. atomizers are a crap shoot. I have a total of 7 that are out of the box and tested. Of those 7, 2 are completely useless (brand new). And if I look down into them I can immediately see why. They have little or no apparent wick running from the bridge down to the coil. Without that wick, the 510 atty just doesn't feed the liquid worth a dayum (IMHO). And like I said, they are fresh out of the box (one is a genuine Joye and one is the wide-band TW unit).

They are hand-made and relatively inexpensive. And with that you will get variations in manufacturing quality. If you get a loser, you just need to move on.

ok so i gave it a little more time and got them both working. the major problem with the one was the fluid. love the stuff i got from drew but the raspberry frappacino in the 24mg strength just didnt give much vapor after inhaling. now i have the banana in a cart and it is working fine (still not as good as the others, but i will use it till my new attys come in the mail).

recap...

I've been using my 510 now for a few days, and have found that direct drip seems to be working well for me. I tried the straw mod with some relative success and use that when I am out and about. The 510 now draws quite nicely, no burnt taste, and today was my first day officially with zero analog cigs! I noticed yesterday when I had one that they taste AWFUL now! Funny how that works! Thanks again for everyone's help. I've made a case for all my 510 gear out of an altoids tin, (saw someone else who I can't remember post it on these forums) which works great.

Tomorrow will be the first day out and about, without being able to charge during the day. I have two batteries, two atties, and a few carts to bring along... probably going to bring some juice too for dripping. I'm bringing my analogs along too, but just going to test myself to see if i can make the day without em!

Any tips/tricks from you guys on juice storage ideas for dripping? Probably going to pick up a passthrough for my power issue...depending on how tomorrow goes.

better take that charger with you..........and get a pcc

important to note It is possible to get a crap atomizer that tastes burnt very quickly. after 5 mos of great atty's I just got one. I'll just chuck it and move on. The whole reason I bought plenty of spares
