I just started vaping & I've noticed there is a vast variety of vape products and sites out there. And the common factor I notice with the flavor selections, is that they are "concentrated". Which got me wondering: Can I use any type of concentrated flavor, extract, or oil in my vape? Or does it have to be very specific? For example, say I wanted to add Peppermint oil to increase the mint flavoring in my cartridge... (One of the flavor components found in some menthol analogs.) Would it be at all possible and/or safe to do so? I kind of have the urge to experiment with some candy or vanilla extracts. I'm just not sure if those can be vaped.

Your 1st stop, before doing anything, is to read the stickies above. This one http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/diy-e-liquid/74109-guide-diy-flavoring.html has a lot of information on flavors.

I don't think anyone is "sure" if any of these flavors are "safe" to vape. That said, candy flavors (like Lorann's) have been used by many. Extracts that are commonly used in the kitchen not so much, as these are not concentrated enough for our purposes & also may contain some undesirable ingredients. Opinions vary on the use of oils. Some feel they clog atties. But I know a number of vapers including myself use some mint oils. These are very strong & so at the minimal amount needed don't seem to cause a problem for me.

That's the condensed answer to your questions. Read some of the threads in this DIY forum and you'll find bunches of information. Have fun & good luck! :)

You specific question about peppermint oil can be answered with a very qualified yes, you can do this. It will blow your head off with mint...think Altoids x 1000. Oils are used very very sparingly compared to water-soluble flavors. But you make a vaping liquid with them ("juice" or "e-juice"), you do not add flavors directly to a cart or carto. As GrannyM said, read the stickies. There is much involved with DIY juices, but once you have the components, its very simple.

And most stuff, but I don't think mint so much, need to be steeped to let the flavor settle. And by settle I mean not be totally lame, thick, and perfumey. I have no clue why they don't settle in their little glass bottles before they're mixed.

My all day vape, or would be if I didn't run out constantly, is just Mt Dew and it needs to steep for about six days for best flavor...but I use it all up in about three. I need to make up more than 10ml at a time, that's for sure.

If you do blow your head off with mint, please report back so we can be amused. :D

Yes it is possible to use mint oil. Yes you could drip it in a carto, but it will not mix well with the other liquid because of the filler. I've read that Roly vaped mint oil mixes exclusively for 9 months. I use mint oils in some of my recipes. I don't consider living to be safe, so I wouldn't say it's safe, but it has had no noticable effect on my health or well being.

Extracts can give coils fits. An actual extract is likely to have large molecules like fats and sugars that just cake a coil. Not as bad as the gums they put in some flavorings, but pretty close. I remember when I tried mixing with baking extracts and fried those attys. Tossed the attys and the extracts, but still use those bottles.

There are veggy oils and animal oils that are known to have bad reactions to lung tissue when inhaled over a period of time. I've never attempted any of those oils except for when they are made into VG.
