Hello everyone.

I've been interested in e-cigs for a while now and finally decided to try them out. How about a little on my smoking habit....

I use to smoke back in high school but in my mid 20's quit cold turkey. I was smoke free for almost 5 years until about 2 years ago when I started becoming more social and drinking.... Oops.
So now I smoke about a pack a day. My normal brand is Marlboro Ultra lights, but I have no problem smoking stronger cigs like Marlboro Reds or Parliaments,.

I bought the Safecig starter kit and today is the first day using it. It came with one battery, usb and wall charger and 5 refills which I got got in "Traditional" 18mg.

I got my safecig in the mail today and haven't had a cigarette since.... BUT the 18mg is WAY too strong for me. I have no idea why I thought I needed that much. I've basically had a buzz all day and my throat feels kind of raw. I'm not loving the taste either....

I realize that no e-cig will ever taste completely like the real thing, and I'm ok with that, but I'm very confused on all the types of e-cigs, the liquids...etc

I like the convenience of the Safecig. While I'm on my laptop I have the battery charging with the usb charger then just screw on the filter part when I need a hit. I like that I don't need to fill it with any liquid...etc. BUT I'm willing to try something else to be able to really enjoy vaporizing. I've been looking at the Joye eGo and 510 but I'm super confused what they're all about. They seem to have many more bits then the safecig. (I don't understand all the lingo used either)

I guess I'm trying to understand what these do. Also I like the idea of flavored liquid. Do the liquids have nicotine in them? Any suggestions on flavors? Vanilla or something sweet sounds interesting.

I'm looking for a good starter kit on the cheaper side and a good place to buy the kit and maybe liquids?

Thanks everyone

You'll find that a lot of people here suggest either the eGo (or it's slightly less expensive version Riva). The nice thing about them is that battery life is pretty solid on them. Figure roughly 6 hours or so depending on your smoking frequency. Obviously the more you vape on it, the less time it will last before it needs a recharge. The only drawback to the eGo (or Riva, or Tornado... they're pretty much the same device) is that they don't look like a traditional cigarette. Some like the look of the traditional cigarettes and want to stick to that with their PV, others are more function over form minded.

How much did you smoke? That's a question that may help to determine what would work well for you.

RandomMusing- First of all welcome to the forum, its a great place to get going.

I started with e-cigs a lot like you, you have a whole new world to explore.

Juices- When you buy your next kit (I recommend just buying an eGo kit, you wont be dissapointed) you will be able to use your own liquid. There is basically any and every flavor available to you out there, and a lot of different places to buy from. I recommend backwoodsbrew.net, johnsoncreeksmokejuice.com, and vaperite.com to get you going, these are all really good vendors. You will be able to choose the nicotine amount in them, if 18 is too much, go with 8mg-12mg, that should be fine.

Ecigs- I do recommend getting a 510 or better yet, an eGo (and eGo is a 510 with a big battery). They do have more parts (battery+atomizer+cartridge) but its actually really simple. The battery life will be better, the vapor production will be better, and you will be able to use your own juices in the cartridge.

Check out our blog, we have tons of information to help steer you in the right direction, eCigology - The Science of E-Cigs

and let me know if you have any more questions.

Thanks everyone for your help. Before I go off and order another starter kit can you all help me and see if I'm picking the right things....

I found a Joye eGo Dual Starter Kit for $50, this is what it comes with....
* 2 Joye eGo mega atomizer, Type A, cone shaped
* 1 Delrin eGo drip tip, Type A
* 5 eGo Type A prefilled cartridges (Non-exchangeable)
MLB flavor, 2 high, 1 med, 1 low, 1 none
* 2 Rechargeable 650 mah lithium-ion manual battery with White LED power indicator
(This battery does not have a 'time-out' feature. It works until the switch is released.)
* 2 Manual button protection ring
* 1 USB quick charger for Joye eGo batteries
* 1 100-240V 500mA AC to USB adapter (Includes the correct plug for your region: US plug, Euro plug or UK plug)
* 1 Nylon carry case
* Instruction manual (English)
* 6 month warranty on atomizer and battery
(not sure if this is a good deal or not)

Ok, so from what I understand the "battery" is the cigarette part, which needs to be charged and they have switches you push in to take a hit. What part is the atomizer and what does it do? What's a drip tip? When it says it comes with prefilled cartridges does that mean I put the cartridge into the atomizer which I then put onto the battery? If I want to try flavors do I get liquid and empty cartridges? Do I drip the liquid onto the empty cartridge? use a syringe?

Also.... Since I have the safecig does anyone know if I can ad liquid to these?

Thanks, sorry for all the noob questions.

The same kit is $40 from Liberty-Flights. Electronic Cigarette - Starter Kits - Joye eGo (if it doesn't show up as $39.99, click the 20% off icon at the top of the page. They sell the delrin drip tip (510) for $1.59. The atomizer vaporizes the juice which is held in the cartridges. Watch the Mistress Nomad videos stickied at the top of this subforum. It will answer most of your questions.

Congrats on taking this step!

Welcome, Random! No matter which kit you buy you're going to need juice and at least 2 or 3 extra atomizers. Atomizers can last a few days or they can last a few months. That's just the nature of atomizers. The atomizers is the part that goes on the battery. A cartridge is what you insert into the atomzier and this produces the vapor.

I would suggest that you check out VaporBomb for your juice. They have lots of delicious flavors that are all very reasonably priced. You can also choose the amount of PG/VG and the nicotine level that you want. Their service is top notch! To start, you should probably buy several 5ml bottles so you can test flavors and see which ones you like.

Ummm. Just playing a bit of the devils advocate here on a couple of the replies...is it best to immediately endorse/recommend the eGo (more power) when a the Op (a new vaper) stated:

"I have no idea why I thought I needed that much. I've basically had a buzz all day and my throat feels kind of raw. I'm not loving the taste either...."

and

"I like the convenience of the Safecig. While I'm on my laptop I have the battery charging with the usb charger then just screw on the filter part when I need a hit."

Sounds like power may not be the first issue needing to be addressed.

First RandomMusing I would do a bit more research on the form here. Below is a link to a thread on Safecigs. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/new-members-forum/141265-safecig-fail-can-you-help.html There are several other threads on the form for safe cigs if you do a search.

Second recommendation would maybe be to seek out some good juice suppliers (as several others have recomended here). If you look in the form suppliers section, there are several great vendors there with nicotine levels from 0mg to 36mg (such as Freedom Smokes USA or Mad Vapes). Based on your feedback regarding the buzz and sore throat, you may want to look at 12mg or lower. As an alternative, you may want to look for a vendor that could supply some prefilled carts in several flavor ranges (I'm not real familiar with the Safecig carts so maybe another form member could chime in here)

Don't get me wrong, I love the eGo (have several) and it may be the way you eventually head but I don't think it's what I would recommend first based on the OP's feedback. We all know there is a bit of a learning curve with vaping and maybe an inch at a time is better than a swan dive right in.

There are many ECF forum members happily vaping on their original analog cig like PV's. I don't wish to offend anyone as much of our forums interaction is based on sharing of opinions. Just my $.02

Yeah, I think he was saying that because he was vaping all day on such a high mg of nicotine, not the time, a less mg nicotine will definitely be more gentle on the throat. I see where you are coming from though, it just inevitable that the majority of people move on to something like an eGo eventually.

Welcome to ECF, lots of good info and very helpful people around here.

I've tried several "starter kits" from V2, eSmoke.net, TheSafeCig, and Bloog. Of the 3 Bloog is my current all day kit, but TheSafeCigs weren't bad at all. The battery life could have been better and the flavor selection from their website is horrible, but the vape draw on the batteries was great. SafeCig batteries are fitted with 4081/103 type connectors and I unfortunatly haven't seen any adpaters that will adapt 4081/103 to anything more standard like KR8/901 or 510 connections. So it looks like you're going to need to buy some new batteries along with the rest of your new kit.

If you're looking to stick with a more analog cigarette style and size PV then I highly recommend getting a good KR808D-1 kit. The Bloog kits are my current personal favorite, but they are a little pricey for a KR8 style setup. However if you check out PureSmoker, MyVaporStore, or LiteCigUSA you can pick a solid KR8 starter kit for a little more than $30 with shipping.

Now if you have your heart set on a 510 kit I, along with everyone else recommend that you get a good eGo starter kit. The prince difference between the standard 510 starter kits and the eGo is usually about $10 to $15, so IMHO you would be throwing money away going with a standard 510 setup. Most of the sites I linked to above also sell eGo kits for roughly $55, but if you check out the ECF Supplier List you will find dozens more because the ego is super popular right now.

And remember you can always buy adapter and adapt almost any battery to almost any atty or carto made. The current best place I have found to buy adapters is Good Prophets and they run about $1 per adapter.

As far as juice goes, I prefer Vapor4Life and Vapor Bomb, but since juice tastes are so subjective you really should hit up the ECF Supplier List again and see what's out there. The choices are mind boggling, but you generally can't go wrong if they're listed as an ECF Supplier.

Hope this helps, and congrats and kicking the analog habit.

There are many choices. My personal thoughts are to go with the eGo or the riva (same thing different maker) in the 510 type. If you like something that looks more like a traditional cig you can get the standard 510 battery for it. For me the standard 510 battery will last half a day while the standard riva battery will last me over 2 days. Just my little addition to the info pool. Also, I strongly suggest you watch the videos that MistressNomad made. They are a great resource.
