I've been reading this forum for about 2 months now and I finally decided to join, mostly because I have a ton of questions and you guys and gals seem to be super geniuses when it comes to vaping.

I bought a e-cig at the mall and started using it so of course I have tons of questions about the different options. I got what I think is an ego ce4 but I am not sure. It was from Total Vapor, apparently they have a website too - totalvapor.com

Maybe I should post in a different area but one of the things I am finding out is that I am getting a terrible taste from my liquids. At first I was AWESOME but now every flavor I try is disgusting. Am I doing something wrong? I have had this thing for 2 months so maybe I should clean the clearomizer (I think that is what it is called)? Do those things go bad or maybe the wicks start clogging up?

Is the ego CE4 a good ecig or are there better options? Maybe better brands?

Anyway I appreciate any advice. If you want I can send you my email so we can discuss further. I would love a little mentoring as I get into the whole vaping world. It's intimidating so thanks eveyone.

Do you have a new clearomizer(the CE4 is the clearomizer and holds your liquid)? If you have a new one, try it out and see if it tastes better. Sometimes, you can accidentally burn your wicks and it will give everything a burnt or just bad taste.

I started out and still use(6 months now) an eGo C with CE4 Clearomizers and other types of tank-style clearomizers (Kanger T2, vivi nova)

Order a few new ones, in the mean time.... remove the clearomizer from the battery, dump the juice and rinse the clearomizer a couple of times with warm water. Put the clearomizer back together but not on the battery, blow through it a few times to blow the water out of the center tube. Make sure the contacts that touch the battery are DRY! Refill with liquid. Use a paper towel to wipe out the contact on the battery, juice can leak onto your battery contact causing a poor connection. Attach to battery. You may have to puff on it a few times to vaporize the water in the wicks and get the juice primed before it will vape again.

This may help with the burnt taste. In the future, try to be mindful of how long you drag on a vape. The longer the drag the hotter the atomizer. If it gets too hot it can burn the wick.

Please note: I am not an expert. I do this with my clearomizers but I do so at my own risk. please use caution. There are also several youtube videos that explain how to clean your clearomizers.

There are several types of clearomizers available. Some are the disposable type which sounds like what you have, and about 2-4 weeks in the heads will die and then the entire unit needs to be discarded. Should you have burnt the wicks, there is nothing you can do to remove the bad taste.

There are newer cartomizers that are "rebuildable", meaning that the heads can be replaced if you are a little handy. These newer clearomizers generally come with two replacement heads. The replacement heads are sold by the vendors that carry the rebuildable clearomziers.

There are many different juice carrying devices that you could put on your current battery. I would recommend a cartotank. I have a picture dictionary of the more common devices available here:

There a lots of different types of tanks...you don't have to be stuck with the "clearomizers". Some people really like them, but some...like me...feel that the flavor is muted with them, the TH isn't so good, and they are kind of fiddly and fussy to deal with. That is my opinion, of course. There are those who'll agree with me, and others who vehemently don't. One thing is for sure: using a single clearo for 2 months without cleaning it is NOT going to work out well!! You have to maintain all your equipment. That means cleaning the contacts of your battery with a cotton swab dampened with isopropyl alcohol (and wiping dry) Cleaning your tank/clearomizers on a regular basis (whatever method is recommended for the type tank you are using) also.

Personally, I like carto tanks. They are tanks that hold juice with a cartomizer inside that has holes punched into it to let the juice soak in to the coil/wick. Once properly filled and primed, you can vape for hours upon hours with no fuss, no muss and no leaking...and the flavor and TH is much better IMHO. Check out a guy named Baditude here on the forum. He has a lot of information in his blogs about using carto tanks. (I know a lot too...lol!!!....but I don't blog!) If you do try carto tanks and have any questions, I have some tricks I can tell you about that will enhance your experience with them. Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions about using the carto tanks.

Do I have to use the ce4 clearomizers? or is there a different tank I can use? Trying to look online to buy a replacement but I don't want to order the wrong thing. :)
brb... digging up a few links with options for you

These are what I use. Ask 20 people, you'll get 20 different suggestions. (Websites below are for reference only... not necessarily who I buy from)

The MFS Vivi Nova is my personal favorite because all the parts are replaceable but I don't have to "Re-Build" the wick system. just replace what is old or broken and I'm done. I'm lazy. I just want my stuff to be ready to go when I'm ready to vape.

MFS Vivi Nova Tank System - 2.0ml - MyFreedomSmokes.com This is a 2ml MFS Vivi Nova tank with replaceable parts. Also be sure to order the eGo Thread Cover Base ($2.59) to make it look nice on your eGo battery. (you can add it to your cart right from this page.)

Replacement parts:
Heads/Wicks: Vivi Nova Tank Replacement Heads (5pk) - MyFreedomSmokes.com

Thread Cover adapter: eGo Thread Cover (DCT/Nova Base) - MyFreedomSmokes.com

Tubes: Mini ViVi Nova Clear Tubes - SMOKEY [gv-MiniViViNovaClearTube-SMOKEY] - $2.99 : GotVapes.com, E-cigarette Supplies - Atomizers Cartomizers Mods Juice and more This is on a different site... but it shows the tube replacements.

I noticed that some items were sold out on these websites, but they give you good photos and descriptions, so you could buy somewhere else and be able to compare pics and know you are getting the same thing.

Just Plain old CE4(stardust type clearomizers, no replaceable parts other than mouth piece) Vision eGo Clearomizer - V3 (Long Wicks, aka CE4 or Stardust) - MyFreedomSmokes.com

Baditude and fouthrok - any suggestions on vendors or brands? Being such a noob I know there are lots of things to learn so I appreciate the advice.

On which type of delivery device?

Like Fourthrok, I'm not a fan of the clearomizers in general, for exactly the same reasons.

For a cartotank, I'd recommend getting an inexpensive pyrex tank from IBTanked I did a review of it in my blog here, the link to the website is at the end of the review. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/blogs/baditude/3318-3-ibtanked-pyrex-glass-tanks-review.html

I use Ikenvape cartomizers in my tanks, but they are often difficult to find in stock. You then have a choice between two brands of cartomizers, Boge and Smoktech. Both work equally fine. I have another link of vendors selling both brands with pre-punched holes ready to be filled and put in a tank here: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/blogs/baditude/3318-3-ibtanked-pyrex-glass-tanks-review.html

Yet another article describing a cartomizer setup with video: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/blogs/baditude/3710-5-cartomizer-tank-setup.html

I've used the CE4 cleraros and switched to the Vision (brand) Mini Vivi Nova 2.0 ml because they were better build quality. If you do buy the Vivi make absolute sure they are genuine Vision brand. The knockoffs are problematic and that's why they're cheaper.
As for cleaning clearos, Vivis, etc wash to remove juice from wicks and tanks parts. Dry burning removes the gunked up juice on the coil- that's prolly what you're tasting. Vivis heads are cheap ($2.00) and easy (10 secs) to replace. My heads are lasting 8+ weeks with maintenance and the only reason I change them is because the wick begins to shred- still fires great.
If you enjoy the clearomizer you'll really like the Vision Vivi. If you enjoy acidic juices you can also buy a metal tube that fits on the Vivi.

There are lots of options for carto tanks...from inexpensive to high dollar custom jobs. A lot is going to depend on what type juice you are inclined to vape. If you like to use juice with cinnamon, cola flavoring, citrus, banana, or other high acidic juice...you will need to use either a polypropylene type tank, or a glass or pyrex type. Those type juice cause cracking. If you vape tobacco (without acidic additives) or menthol, you can use whatever you want, including the the budget style polycarbonate type tanks. High end glass/pyrex tanks can be found at IBTanked, Phiniac, Valley View (banner in my sig) and some others. I'm pretty sure Bad has good vendors listed in his blogs somewhere! If you can use the inexpensive stuff, then My Vapor Store, Hoosiers eCig Supply, VaporBeast, Madvapes, Smoke Revolt, and and host of other vendors will carry them at a fair price. One thing My Vapor Store offers that many don't is JUST the tube tank...so you don't have to buy the whole shebang with carto, drip tip and all. Much more economical. You can get just the tube there for about $5 or less.

As Fourthrok said, there are some flavors that can crack or melt some plastic tanks and all clearomizers. I've got this covered in this article, too. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/blogs/baditude/3733-6-something-safe-cinnamon-citrus-flavors.html

In addition to the pyrex tanks that are safe to use with these flavors, other materials can be used safely. Namely polypropylene or metal.

The polypro tanks from Valley View will work, but they may appear too large on an eGo battery. The polypropylene tanks (the 3.5ml size) from My Vapor Store are slimmer and fit the aesthetics of an eGo more. 510 Pro DCTank Combo

Kinda off the subject, but is the ego CE4 a good e-cig or should I try the 510?
eGo is a class/ style of PV. There are 3 main brands available and you can get form 650 mah to 1100 mah.
When looking at a PV realize battery info: 100 mah= 1 hr normal vaping before recharge is needed. These batteries are generally good for 250- 300 recharges.

510 can mean 2 things- 510 PV is a cig sized PV- battery life is an issue.
510 can also indicate the threading of a PV- 510 threaded PVs take 510 accessories- most common and easily available of all thread types.
Next is 808 threaded PVs and only 808 thread type accessories can be used on them.

I am glad I read this thread. I tried a tank at a B&M and didn't like the TH, so I thought tanks wre out. Now I read about the carto tank having a good TH. I use cartos now so I think I will get a carto tank. I will watch the tank material. I normally shop at Madvapes so Smoktech will have one, I guess.
