Whats up efc. Im a newbie to the world of vaping, havent even received my stuff yet. Got a subbox mini and some 18mg juice to hopefully get me off cigarettes. Ive tried everything else. But ithink the action of smoking is what I enjoy the most so hopefully this works. Im kind of excited to see the results.

I do have one question though, if anyone could answer that would be great. Is 18mg good enough for a pack a day smoker?

Yes, the .5 is sub-ohm (below 1 ohm).
It largely depends on the person, but as an example I was a 2-3 pack a day smoker and managed to quit instantly with 12 mg in an ego + kanger t2 setup..
Like I said it all depends on you and what you can handle as well as what makes you feel okay. I personally would find 18 mg to be way too much if you do open airflow lung hits on the subtank with the .5 coil.
Try it, if it makes you cough really bad and you feel dizzy after a few drags then it's definitely too much and in that case I would recommend switching to the 1.5 coil, lowering the watts and closing off the airflow so you can take mouth-to-lung hits till you get your hands on some lower nic juice.
'Most' people don't go beyond 6 mg for sub-ohm lung hits, but are quite comfortable vaping 12-18 in a mouth-to-lung setup, because sub-ohm open-air drags create much more vapor which results in more nicotine / drag with the same juice.
On the other hand, if you prefer mouth-to-lung hits over lung-hits then like I said before, install the 1.5 coil, turn down the wattage to like 15 or something, close off the airflow to the smaller holes and you're good to go with that juice :)

Cheers and let us know how it went!

Be sure to saturate the cotton in your coil whichever one you use before installing or else you'll burn the cotton and you'll have to toss that coil. Start at low wattage/voltage and work up slowly to a point where you are happy with the flavor and vapor. FSimon has given good information.

I am and will always be a mouth to lung vaper. Actually, seldom does the vapor make it to my lungs since the nicotine is absorbed by the soft tissues in mouth and nose. Smoked the same way and it could be why my 53 yrs of smoking 2 PAD (ultra lights last 20 yrs) had little bad health effects. Started at 9 mg nic on a ProTank 2 and eventually went down to 6 using those tanks and a Nautilus. Tried it in the Subtank mini using the 1.2 and 1.5 coils (middle hole) and still had to cut down to 3 nic. I rarely get above 11 watts. Total "Tootle Puffer" here. Ha!

Matter of fact, I'm such a Tootler Puffer that I've managed to turn the Subtank mini into a Tootle Tank by using the ProTank 2 single coils (I do rebuild them with 30 guage Kanthal and cellucotton) or the Aspire BVC "Replacement" NON Nautilus coils. Of course, I can stick with the original Kanger OCC coils which you can also rebuild or the RBA that comes with it. It's just nice to have a multiple of inexpensive choices in coils.

Welcome and good luck, Tevita. :) It's a journey well worth taking, and you've got many here who'll help you along the way. :)

Thanks everybody, for the welcome and the advice. You guys are awesome.

The subbox kit comes with a .5 and 1.5 ohm coil, I should use the 1.5 for 18 mg nic?
And the .5 would be considered sub ohm?
And how much nic is it ok to sub ohm?

In a way, it makes no difference. I have vaped a Kanger 0.5ohm coil at 8 watts when I had a cold/cough.
The word "sub-ohm" is less important these days. The point is you probably don't want to vape 18mg liquid at 20-30 watts or something.
However, you are correct. Use the higher resistance coil for lower watt vaping and higher nic' liquid.

Actually there is a whole lot of difference :D The difference is the wattage setting required to get the same effect and the fact that we're wasting battery life into ramping up large chunks of metal rather than getting our vapor, but if I would've started rambling about how the industry is fooling us and you don't need sub-ohm at all with VW devices, only mechs then some ppl here might get offended and knock me on the head so I tried staying clear of 'facts' and went on expressing the 'generally accepted' versions of it :) Anyway I totally agree with the word 'sub-ohm' being kinda pointless, a resistance is a resistance, be it 0.9 ohms or 1 ohm.

Cheers to you! :)

I was a pack a day too, started on 18mg, was down to 12mg within a few weeks, 2months later im just about to move to 0mg. I love vaping and am currently awaiting my first mod Kanger Subox mini, excited!

Depends on the wattage.
18mg should be good for around 5 watts.

For 10 watts you want more like 10mg.
For 20 watts you want more like 5mg
