So I started vaping several months ago and have to say that as time has gone on I continue to vape more. Most likely due to the fact that it's so much easier to grab a few hits here and there as well as that I now vape in places (like my car & house) that I would have never smoked in.

One thing I noticed is that I started having some sleep issues that had increased over time - actually starting with my vaping career. I read somewhere on the boards here that one user said he started using reduced nic in the evenings because it kept him up at night. I've been on a slow program to reduce my nic intake and am now vaping 6mg juice. But like I said, I was vaping alot in the evenings and waking up alot.

So I tried going 0 nic in the evenings after dinner and voila! I'm sleeping better. The question is, are any of you seeing sleep issues with heavier nic intake or is it just me? Either way, it looks like it's no Nic at Night for me!

Just curious.

Let me put on my science geek hat here for a moment.

Nicotine is a stimulant just like caffeine. However, nicotine is unusual in that it acts as both a stimulant AND a depressant - which is one reason why it is so addictive. It calms the nerves while creating a rush of energy, and has a mind-clearing effect similar to caffeine. So to answer your question, yes, nicotine is keeping you up at night and is interfering with you sleep patterns. Even when you are asleep, you are not getting proper sleep, or reaching a deep sleep state, due to the stimulating effects of nicotine on your nervous system.

Nicotine has a half life of 2.5 hours in the human body. This means that the majority of nicotine’s effects are gone after 2 ½ hours. I would suggest either not vaping 3 hours before bedtime, or mixing up a batch of 8-12mg juice to be used in the evenings after dinner. Hopefully this will solve your problem.

I have nothing to add. But, I want to say this is a clever title and turn of phrase. =)

I have no idea if this is due to the things I stopped having from analogs or a change in nicotine level (I have no idea if I've gone up or down but its sure to have 'changed' one way or the other since moving from analogs to e-cigarettes nasal snuff and snus)

but especialy the first few nights after moving off of analogs I started having more (or more memorable and vivid and strange) dreams.

I think if there any one nicotine supplying thing I might be most likely to blame that on if I consider one of the new things introduced as the culprit instead of thinking it might be the result of whatever you are getting off the mystery analog stuff when getting away from them) I'd probably say it was most likely the snus and not the e-cigarettes (because I think I had also been falling asleep with a snus in my mouth about that time, which was also a new thing for me to be doing)

I especially had one episode where I don't even know if I was falling asleep or had just woke up but it was nighttime and I was in bed and I had this sort of 'night terror' or really big panic attack about nothing in particular even, I was just really afraid.. of absolutely everything (and nothing) all at once. No particular things to be afraid of came to mind, I was just scared no matter what I thought, wasn't connected to anything I was thinking, it was just plain fear.

I'm glad that was just a one time thing.

It's interesting how differently bodies can react in similar situations. For me, I've experienced those symptoms you described (insomnia/vivid dreams) during those times in my life when I quit smoking entirely. However, because those quit periods were when I was pregnant, nursing or going through some insane health kick with more exercise and vitamins...I always figured those were the causes.

My first e-cig hasn't even arrived yet...but I'm so curious about what other people are experiencing. I keep reading that people actually end up vaping more than they smoked - but I'm wondering if it evens out when you consider that a personally typically smokes until they finish an an entire cigarette ... whereas with vaping you may do it more frequently...but for not as long each time.

...btw, does anyone know what a Full flavor analog is, would it be around 18mg?

I have seen a tremendous variety of responses to this basic question depending on if you mean taste, throat hit, amount of nicotine getting into your brain, etc. There's tons of forum threads on it, I'll let you look into all of that yourself if you are interested.
There's research indicating something about only 10% of the nicotine gets in your system compared to an analog. But if you look deeper it's more complicated than that. And there are some people who believe nicotine is not the major factor here anyway. Six of one...

I think Flue Cured and Mar-Bro are the most tobacco like flavors, and I have read that they are both pretty popular to replace analogs.

The best advice I've read is, buy two bottles of a tobacco flavor, one at zero nic, and one at a high nic like 24 or 36, and mix them yourself to different levels to find what works best for you.

Nothing is going to be exactly like an analog, of course, but you are just trying to see what is the closest for you.

Hope that helps.

Yeah, it's just the nicotine level equivalent I'm looking for as a guide.
I have some Marlboro flavor, but I'm looking forward to mixing my own low nic liquid with some Lorann's fruit and candy flavors.

CNubel - Thanks for the supporting data! Didn't know about the 2.5 hr thing with nicotine. Like I said, I went to zero nic in the evening and it pretty much solved it.

DirtyButts - good info for you too! Sounds like middle-of-the-night vapes are not a good idea. (PS - Not sure, but I think I love your screen name!)

Hey I'll take that! Made me smile! Anywho yea I guess I need to leave the ole' 510 upstairs when I head down for bed otherwise I find myself hitting it all night. When I like something...I like it way to much!
