From what I could find, Nic content in tobacco regardless what it used for is dependant on the type of tobacco used to make the product. It is a plant that gets it's nic from the soil..oriental tobacco is the lowest nic, Cuban the highest.

As you can see from the quote below, Tobacco used to make pipe products is rather low. Your nic in the e-liquid is not comparable to what you used to get because you may vape more or less then what you smoked in a analog (RYO Cigarette).

Also it depends on how you vape and in what. I vape low nic in a 901, concidered to be a good entry e-cig. I also do not take long drags or retain the vapor. So even at my low nic..I am just getting much more then a maintanence amount of nic. If you vape with one of the mods or a 510 you will get more nic.

A pipe depends on it's atomizer for power and nic delivery..but from what I understand it does produce a nice amount of vapor. Add some glycerin to you juice and get even more! (buy only USP or foodgrade glycerin)

Quote:
"Cigarette tobacco and fine cut tobacco results cluster around a pH 5 with average nicotine levels between 15 and 20 mg/g. Pipe tobacco presents the lowest observed pHs 4.7-4.9, while nicotine content averaged around 17 mg/g. Cigars present pH levels between 6 and 7 while nicotine contents are low, between 7 and 12 mg/g." End Quote.

I would suggest an 18 mg to 24 mg to start and then you can go down if needed. If the 18 to 24 is too high for you from the start add P.G., V,G, or Glycerin to cut it down. remember a lot of the nic goes up in vapor just as your analog did. You are not getting a ton of other chemicals, so you may feel a bit of a letdown, it will pass.

You need to find your own levels that make you happy. half the fun of vaping is trying new and better ways to cut down on tobacco use.

Welcome to ECF! Good luck.

Not an answer but...

When you say pipe tobacco, do you mean the likes of Borkum Riff, Prince Albert, etc? The sweet, aromatic stuff?

The reason I ask is today I went to my local discount tobacco store and asked for a "big bag of 4 Aces tobacco", which is now 6 oz. The clerk reached up for a large bag (turned out to be a pound) that resembled my prior tax increase brand. It had PIPE TOBACCO in large letters on it. I told her I don't want pipe tobacco, RYO tobacco.
She told me that to circumvent the tax increase on RYO, the companies are now cutting the tobacco as pipe tobacco, but it is the same old stuff. At first I did not believe it, as a 1 pound bag of this "new" stuff was only $20. Sure enough, the same as before, just cut different. The clerk told me that they just started stocking it.

The pipe tobacco you use, is it real pipe tobacco or have you been getting "pipe tobacco cut" RYO? Just curious.

No one else I told this story to had heard of this new cut style, but were happy to find a cheaper alternative.
