for those of you who premake a VG PG nic base .... do you increase your amount of nic in it so that when flavors are added the nic strength is where you want it?

For example if I were to make a 250 ml base Max VG with a target of 3mg nic should I add a higher amount say 4mg? Then when I add ~15% flavor it will be diluted?

Does this make sense? I’ve been trying to figure this out and every time I think I’ve got it I just confuse myself.

Thanks

When I mixed a lot of Flavored e-Liquids, I would make the adjustment to my Pre-Mix to account for Flavoring/Sweeteners being added later.

It really Isn't any Harder/Easier to make Adjusted Pre-Mix verses Non-Adjusted Pre-Mix.

I mix my base once a year at 7mg 25/75vg
Vape this unflavored or mix with flavors.
Flavored ends up being about 6-6.5mg 30/70vg, depending on the flavoring amount.
I prefer this "loose" way of mixing, others may not.

Thanks. Im fine with “loose” mixing too lol!

I figured it up for mine. 10% flavoring or 3ml in 30ml total. A 5mg base would end up 4.5mg. I wouldn't notice. 10mg would be 9mg, 15mg would be 13.5mg and 20mg would be 18mg.
Conveniently my more usual 6.66mg unflavored liquid, because that comes out to an even ml of my 50mg base (and I like to scare antis saying I vape 6.66mg) would come out to be 6mg. So from unflavored to my strongest flavoring I wouldn't notice a difference.

Ejuice Me Up has a tool for this.

I just realized, now that I have PEG, I can premix my nic base!!! SWEET! I have been dealing with 100% VG nic and it really is a pain.

I'm going to be making those calculations too, but I imagine I will approach it "loosely" perhaps. I tend to flavor around the same amount, so I'll just allow around 10% for flavors.

Lol, it would never have occurred to me until I read this thread. I'm excited, I might just do some birthday mixing. Possibly... It needs to be soonish though.

So what does everyone use to put their premixed base into? Size and where it’s available. Thanks again.

I like to use a 250ml (8oz) Boston Round Glass Bottle with a Phenolic Cone (Poly) Cone Cap.

8oz Amber Glass Bottle

Amber is OK. But Cobalt Blue is way Cooler.

I put it back into 4oz (125ml) Boston rounds, that my 100mg nic is in, and refreeze.
4 of those fit into a small flat rate USPS box. Makes it easy to stack and protect in the nic freezer.

I really don't see much benefit to it for my regular flavors so I only make about 30ml unflavored to use for tasters.
At least to my thinking it's just as easy to take 20ml-ish from a VG bottle and 4-6ml from a 50mg nicotine bottle as it would be to take 24ml-ish from a 6mg bottle.

Ok well I have lots of Amber Boston rounds with phenolic caps left over from freezing my nic that I can use for large long term base mixes.

I just used a 500 ml plastic bottle that I received from Nic River in their starter kit. The kit came with 500ml each of VG & PG with twist tips. They’re easy to work with and I can squeeze the mix right into the little 30- 60 ml flavor bottles I use.

Thanks for the ideas and responses :)

It may not matter to you, but 2 things popped into my head:

    1. That looks to be a clear, PET, plastic bottle, and PET is not recommended for re-use, because it's not a plastic that won't leach (which are PP, LDPE, and HDPE).

    2. Since it has nic in it, have you wondered if it will oxidize more than in an Amber bottle, preferrably a glass one (especially since it's 500mL that may take awhile to use up)?

Sorry I didn't list it correctly it's PEG400 and a PG alternative. I am PG sensitive and can't tolerate more than about 10% PG which are usually flavors. Any more than that, I get stinging pins and needles.

It's just a variant of PG and behaves a bit like it. My first PEG400 mixes I bought a small bottle from amazon to see if I was sensitive to it. I'm not and it behaves quite similarly to PG as far as less fog, and a bit more flavor transport. I got a suggestion from another member, and when I researched it, I didn't find anything super concerning and I'm glad I can use it. IDK if it's "superior" to PG or not, but it does seem to function similarly.

Curious about PETE leaching. They're using PETE to replace the old 5 gallon glass carboys for home fermentation because it's less air permeable. Obviously we reuse.

I can say 100mg that I had come in PETE and frozen without rebottling was more yellow than 100mg that I cut to 50mg and rebottled in glass 2 years earlier.

JC thanks for pointing that out about that being a PET bottle. I ordered a couple of smaller HDEP? twist top bottles from Amazon to use for my working base. The rest I’ll put I in the amber Boston rounds I have lying around. They’ll have to enjoy the refrigerator since my shelves in the freezer are loaded with nic lol!

    Again thank you!
