New member and first time joining a forum. I have always used forums to get information but never joined one. Well I tried nichrome a couple weeks ago and made a fused clapton with N80 as outer. I dry fired it and it turned blue. Researched and I found pictures of similar results but nobody said why it changed. I'm concerned about Inhaling something bad. So I decided to only dry fire enough to barely see its heating properly. What are your thoughts on this? If it turns blue while vaping am I Inhaling something that's toxic? I don't have pics of my first fused clapton that was BLUE. But here is my first attempt of my own twist on a cloud making coil. It's a 4 strand quad parallel clapton coil I guess you would call it 30 G A1K and 38 G N80.

It vapes good and big clouds for me but I'm usually going for flavor not clouds. This is a new coil and that is the slight discoloration that changed a little towards the middle.

Hi JP1113. Welcome to the ECF.

Metal alloys can change Colours when they are Heated/Cooled in the presences of Oxygen and any Residual Compounds like Oils.

It is All perfectly Normal.

I use NiChrome 80 sometimes. And when I Dry Burn a new coil, it can Colour change in areas to Blue/Purple and sometimes to a Straw Colour.

A lot depends on How Clean the wire was before I started. And How much I Handled the coil when Mounting it. And if there might have been some trace amounts of e-liquids left in the Deck.

Thank you for the replies. Alright cool I was worried because it's 80 percent nickle and thought it might be oxidizing and I didn't want to inhale that. But I've been using it a couple days now at high wattage and still no change in color. I like these coils although I've heard a lot of people say the 4 strand parallel are pointless and no different than a clapton or something else but they are great for flavor. I guess it's because they are long I don't know.
