I was watching a YT video on diy and the guy said that he buys his nicotine concentrate in the 36mg/ml ratio as opposed to the 100mg/ml because of the harsh taste of the 100mg.. Is there any truth to that? Its the only time i have heard that and i am awaiting my first diy supply order including 100mg nicotine.. So sorry if this has been asked before but i read thru so many posts and could not find my answer.. Thanks, Badger.

Yes and no...... All bases PG, VG and Nic have A flavor, even if UNFLAVORED. Some nic/PG/VG base has more flavor to it than others. The flavor will vary by supplier.
My suggestion is to buy small qtys of Nic base and PG/VG, from various suppliers. Find the UNFLAVORed ingredients you like best. Before you start adding flavoring to them.

Don't worry. The worst 2 things that can happen are you can mix too much nicotine or make a juice that doesn't taste good. Either one is no big deal. Just dump the juice and start over. A lot of folks treat it like a mad science experiment. They think they need a fully equipped laboratory and lots of expensive equipment. I treat it more like bartending. This much out of this bottle. That much out of that one. Shake, pour, serve. It's really easy. :thumb:

Make the mixing and measuring simple. Get a large squeeze bottle to use to mix your unflavored base mix to your desired nic level. Mark the side of the bottle with levels for 100 mg nic base, then PG and VG to get your desired ratio and strength.

To mark the bottle, use a syringe to measure plain water, it's easy to pull into syringe and measure accurately.

For example using 100 mg PG nic. Mark the bottle for 10 mL for the nicotine, 40 mL for PG and 50 mL for VG. Fill to each level with each component and presto 100 mL of 10 mg 50/50 base liquid. Then it's easy to dispense into 10 mL bottles and add flavorings to suit.

The flavoring will throw the nic level and PG/VG ratio a little off, but if it's concentrated enough flavoring it's not noticeable.

Badger, I've used Wizard Labs nicotine and like it a lot. I get very little taste from it. I would agree with Stosh that DIY is a lot easier if you first mix up a big batch of PG/VG/Nic base and then use that each time you try out a new recipe. It's a lot faster than having to measure all those ingredients for every bottle of ejuice you make.

Wow thats the first i heard of the premix and it sounds great...i thought of that the other day but i was scared it would somehow throw off the ratios but im glad yinz cleared that up for me..thanx again

If you're using that much flavoring that it throws off the ratio or nic strength that much, look for better more concentrated flavorings...;)

My mixes generally run around 5-7% total, if it drops the nic level 1 mg/mL I would be suprised.

I always use the same amount of flavoring, so I just take that into consideration when making my premix.

I cant see any reason how that would make any kind of sense whatsoever, it wouldn't take a math major to figure that statement wouldn't hold water, you made the right purchase.
Good luck and if you have any more questions feel free to ask .........

Yeah, it doesn't make sense to me either. You can get good or bad flavor from a high or low concentration not knowing anything going in, but your final product is going to contain alot more of the low. It's the flavor that is the determining factor in my limited experience.

For the OP:

I bought everything from ecigexpress and in my limited experience, using the exact same 100mg nic and 50/50 base, it's all in the flavor. I have a mixed few I love, a few that aren't great, and one so far that I can't stand to use. Fortunately, the flavors are sold mostly in 10 ml bottles for just a couple of $, so if you buy one you don't like, it's not a big deal.

I grabbed some graduated 10 ml pipets from work, these are great for measuring the base, the flavors and nic are manageable driptip-wise or dropper-wise.

I use this simplified calculator:

eJuice Calculator 3.0 | EcigExpress Archive Cookbook

Good luck!
