A few months ago I started using an e-cig. I started with an ego aio and then bought a cuboid with a rebuildable tank. But a few weeks ago I got really scared about how easy could nicotine give an overdose when on skin from (for ex.) refilling the tank or taking out a wet wick for putting in a new one. I threw out my e-cig ( such dumb.much wow), but I bought a similar TC one and another atty and some new juics, because I threw everything out.
I built my first coil and wick om the new atty, but after two weeks of use I got to the point where I would need to rebuild, but I am to afraid of even touching the wet wick as I am refilling the tank ( of fear that some would spill ).
The question is: are my fears well founded or I should just get my life together an stop worrying already ? I really don't know how this ( the nicotine overdose and everything related ) works and I have very little experience with e-liquids and e-cigs.
Thamk tou for all your answers.

If your buying your ejuice your fine, can't count how many times I had spills and always getting my fingers wet with juice. The danger is with pure nicotine that DIY users use in making their own juice and even then up to 100mg is fairly safe, but should still be used with caution.

You really don't have anything to worry about. The nic concentration in e juice is so low that nic overdose would be virtually impossible. I've actually dribbled 100mg on my fingers. I just rinsed my hands and continued with my DIY. At concentrations of 3-24mg usually found in eliquids, don't worry and just keep rebuilding.

So sorry that you wasted your equipment over fear due to propaganda...

Unless you're using 24mg and up, there's is absolutely nothing to worry about.

And even then, with 24, just a question of not licking it. But 12 and under, everyone spills a little bit at some point and most simply lick it as some flavours are too good to waste... we aren't talking a straw to a bottle, just a little bit on the skin.

As others said, worse case, a bit of numbness on tongue with 24-12, while lesser mg, you'd be hard pressed to fell much at all if anything.

Just wash your hands after. The only concern would be with children or animals around, just use common sense, and you can rinse your tank (upside down, close the airflow and don't get your mod wet) if you're worried.

Now if you were DIY (making your own liquids) and working with 48 or 100 mg, then you do have to be careful as these is the concentrated bases, and that's another story.

I suspect there is more danger you might swallow your drip tip than there is with the nic in eliquids. As has been mentioned you can buy higher concentrations of nic up to almost 100% but anything above I believe about 50% requires you to explain to the supplier what in the world you are going to do with it and convince them you can handle it properly. Note that 100 mg/ml nic is totally different from saying 100% nic and ejuice comes in much lower levels for nic. In DIY I've seen a number of messages that people say they don't bother with gloves when handling 100 mg, as does the poster above, though their use is recommended.

In places where you can't vape at all, and you really need a fix, I'll drop some 3mg/ml on my tongue and pretend I'm vaping.

I've done that with 24 mg as well. Way to many scare stories out there. Bottom line, unless you drink an entire bottle, you'll be fine. Even then, assuming your an adult and weight more than 100 lb, you'll still probably be fine (theoretically, please do not try to prove me right or wrong).

As for skin absorption, it's minimal unless at very high concentrations like 100 mg, and you saturate a large area of skin and deliberately let it sit there . Just clean up any messes you make, and wash your hands after mixing (assuming you decide to mix your own).

As to wet wicks, I just pluck them out and toss in the garbage.

Nicotine Propaganda
"
4. "Nicotine is highly toxic."

No, it is probably not much more toxic than some other normal dietary elements. In addition, consultant toxicologists have advised that retail e-liquid is in the same official toxicity class as washing-up liquid (the detergent used for washing plates).

In October 2013, Prof Mayer of Graz showed that nicotine's toxicity has been greatly overstated; that there is zero evidence for the current LD50; that no one has ever died as a result of consuming a dose equivalent to the current LD50; and that people routinely survive consumption of doses many times the current LD50 with no ill effects to speak of."

Hope this helps you. Nicotine is no more dangerous than the caffeine that we get from coffee. :)

Wow, I must thank you all for your answers. You've been really helpful to say at least :).
I'm trully sorry to have thrown the e-cig because I could've at least given it to someone else, but I got really scared then...
Well, this thought me something :)). From now on I'll be vaping away the fear and enjoying this wonderful community :toast:.

Like someone else suggested, if you want an extra layer of protection you can wear gloves. I mix my own and use 100mg strength, I just wash any spills and wipe up any drops right away in addition to keeping everything in childproof containers and out of reach. Doesn't worry me a bit.
