i heard this a long time ago that when you vape the nicotine absorbed is so low that might as well be nothing at all

well i just remembered that little quote up there and I was thinking, that couldnt be true because why would they even bother with nic in e juice.

Does anybody remember this and know if its true or not?

I am leaning towards not true but if anybody knows for sure I would appreciate it. :)

The study alludes to something along the lines of the amount of nicotine absorbed through the lungs is low, not necessarily that the nicotine absorption from the vapor was low. It's believed that the bulk of the nicotine delivered from the e-cig is delivered via the mouth and not necessarily the lungs.

It is dependent primarily on nicotines readieness to bind to oxygen and/or the ability of it to pass through the alveolar walls within the lungs. Absorbtion through inhalation is the quickest route into the body, even quicker than direct venous injection. The lungs allow dispersion of volume over a larger area for the vapor to absorb, this combined with the fact that co2/o2 is exchanged in the lungs and travels directly to the heart for distribution throughout the body. Venous blood travels to the heart, is pumped to the lungs, back to the heart, and then out to the body. So absorbtion through inhalation is a quicker route to the bodies system. Nictotine absorbtion is rather high, higher when in vaporized form than in traditional smoke form (due to concentration and the fact liquid (vapor) is readily absorbed by the lungs).

Here's a curious thought...

When you smoke a pipe it never enters your lungs, you absorb the nicotine in your mouth. I understand that they way pipe tobacco is cured leaves it more alkaline meaning that the nicotine is absorbed through the mouth. This leads to what pipe smokers call "deer tongue".

I have vaped heavily and never had alkaline tongue irritation (and it sucks, believe me!) but what is the PH of nic juice? Anyone out there got a PH test strip they want to stick in a bottle of nic juice? Another question is could slightly alkaline nic juice lead to better absorption?

Either way, my first week with the e-cig I vaped way too much and definitely got a nic buzz. Actually, with e-cigs I find I smoke until I get a slight buzz... So, yah the nicotine absorbs.
