I've been vaping 18 mg juice since I started a few months ago. Really like Space Jam Omega, but its kinda pricey. Just got an RDA and was told I should get lower strength stuff, so I got some 6 mg from a different company, "High Caliber". Anyways, the 6 mg really isn't doing it for me and I like vaping the 18 mg Omega a lot better than the 6 mg new stuff. The TH is weak (as expected--less nicotine), but more importantly, the flavor and vapor just don't seem to be there. The High Caliber is quite a bit cheaper though and I'm planning on picking up some 18 mg tomorrow to see if that helps.

My question is: does the lower nicotine content reduce flavor and vapor or could it be poor juice quality?

Probably poor juice. Most people will say that lower nic helps improve flavor of some juices. And the reason they recommend lower nic in a dripper is that you take a lot more in, so you will get nicotine buzzed if the mg is too high. If you use 18mg and not getting buzzed, then stick with 18, if you do... get 12mg. 18mg to 6mg was a dramatic difference.

I've been told that the higher nic level will affect taste buds. When switching to a different nic level give it a few days to a week for taste buds to recover. I started on 18 and the last batch of juice I got from Mt. Baker is 12. I have vaped all my 18 but slowly going to the 12. Insteaed of going from 18 to 6 you my want to try 12. Good Luck!

Two different juices from different manufacturers isn't really good for comparison. Also how much lower you go depends on what kind of builds you are doing. A plain old 1+ ohm single coil may not require going all the way down from 18 to 6. That would be more for going to sub ohm builds especially multi coil builds.

Did you try the Space Jam in your RDA, or just your new e-liquid?

I am one of the few that gets less flavor from an RDA (I'm running a dual coil nano-chimney/dragon @ .5 ohms in a Quasar RDA) I get a ton of vapor but the flavor is just lacking. If I vape the same juice in a KayFun or even an EVOD tank I get much more flavor. I think it has something to do with the amount of airflow and the fact the the vapor is being condensed somewhat in Evod/KayFun type tanks.

So it could just be juice quality, or simply the way your flavor palate reacts to an RDA. The resistance of your coil, and they type of coil / wick setup will also factor in. Lower ohm coils may give you the extra flavor / vapor that you are looking for, or possibly just the opposite. You may do better with a higher res coil with more restricted airflow to help condense the vapor/flavor.

Either way, with a lower resistance coil you should get much more vapor as well as a stronger throat hit w/o affecting flavor too much. I was at 24mg when I first tried an RDA; immediate nic buzz and headache. So I went down to app 12mg and still got solid hits w/o immediately being nic'd out.

Close your airholes down to about 1/4 open and see how it tastes. ;) I have one quasar with a 1.5 ohm single microcoil with the airflow set that way set to 15 watts. I have another with dual super nanos with the airflow wide open and a wide bore drip tip running on a mech. The same juice between the 2 certainly doesn't taste exactly the same.

The RDA I was using was the A7 with a 1.5 ohm micro coil on 30 ga Kanthal. I went out and bought a Trident V2 clone yesterday and wired up 32 ga Kanthal dual micro coils that come out to 1.4 ohms. Flavor and vapor are both really nice, even with the 6 mg juice I didn't like before. It seems to be just an issue of different attys with different juices etc. I think I've caught the RDA fever, which is unfortunate, because my wallet can't take it right now lol.
