Nicotine Level vs. Taste

Hello all,

I am about to put in my first order for smoke juice. I got all my flavors picked out but it is asking me which nicotine level i prefer. I have only ever ordered carts from prosmoke for my e-cigs. And the vanilla at super extra high (28mg) tastes like cheerios. Not even the honey nut kind. I dunno if the flavor is just way off at prosmoke or if the nicotine level is the culprit.

I'm wondering if smoke juice for mods will be the same from other vendors. Can anyone give me their experiences with 24mg and higher say up to 36mg of nicotine.

I'm not sure that the nic strength affects the taste of my juices as much as the individual vendor's recipe. Example is that some vanilla juices are boring & others are WOW. Then again some days my taste buds differ. Just keep trying small samples from different vendors till you find what you like.

Bullette the Cowdog: thanks, I was told by the vendor I'm ordering from that the nicotine wouldn't affect the flavor either. I guess them guys at prosmoke just have bad taste buds and can't get their flavors right.

The smallest I can order from the vendor I'm going with is 10ml..

do you know how many times I can fill up the Vivi Nova with that amount?

I'n not sure I would agree with that.

I vape some 0mg e-Liquids at night. I find them to be Sweeter than their 18mg Counterparts.

For Fruit Flavors, this is a Plus. But for a other Flavors it isn't. Some Flavors, to me, taste Better when they have Nicotine in them.

But of course, YMMV

I would think about 4 fills, depending on fill level, for the Vivi.

For me, vanilla was a tough one to find. My favorite vanilla flavor ended up being Vanilla Love from AltCig. Not really a straight-up vanilla, but tasty as heck.

I have heard some people claim the flavors get stronger with lower nicotine levels, but I have not experienced this myself.

I use 24mg right now and it has been good for me for a while. Will probably drop down to 18mg since my usage has dropped lately. 36mg was just a bit much for me. Slightly rough going in and it started to make me sick before I was satisfied with the physical and flavorful aspects of vaping. And I was a 2PAD smoker!

the vivi holds 2.5ml so 4 refills from a 10ml bottle. if you've not long come off the ciggies i would say go for 18 - 24mg nicotine as you need the hit to stop you craving a smoke then work your way down from there. i've been vaping for quite a while and don't really need the nicotine as much as i did but i still use 18mg because i like it. don't forget its not the nicotine that you are trying to get rid of, its the 4000 other chemicals that tobacco smoke has in it.

Did you have a VV mod that you could dial down a little.. or would that even matter in this case?

No, I didn't have a VV at the time, but I was using an eGo, so my voltage was already pretty low. Plus, especially in the beginning, I really likes as much vapor as possible, so turning it down may have helped with the TH/nic intake, but I probably would have been disappointed with the vapor production.

Well then on that statement alone I will probably get the 24mg juices. Maybe try at least one in 36mg just for experience's sake.

I'm curious though.. your 2PAD habit,? was that regulars or menthols?

Nicotine contributes very little taste to e-liquid but it is not necessarily without taste. Several folks in the DIY liquid forum have been comparing the taste of unflavored nicotine e-liquids and there are some slight taste components. These flavor components will vary by base nicotine liquid suppliers. Some of the unflavored nicotine base liquids are virtually tasteless (including some US produced nicotine) while others (especially Chinese-produced nicotine) produce a peppery taste.

I'm using a very pure US-produced base nicotine in my DIY unflavored juice. The mix is 95/5 VG/H20. At 20 mg nicotine it produces plenty of throat hit but the taste is very slight. I describe it as a faint unflavored cotton candy or slightly toasted mashmallow taste.

yzer: thanks for that info.. I just shot a message to the supplier I intend to deal with and asked if their nicotine is produced in US or china. Hopefully it's US because peppery tasting nicotine doesn't sound too appealing.

Or maybe you or someone else can answer while I'm waiting on a response from them.

Does DFWvapor use nicotine produced in US or China.

Also could anyone comment on their flavors?

I also experienced a very peppery line of juices that came from China. No juices that I have purchased from US vendors (that state clearly they use US ingredients) have had that pepper problem. I have tried many different levels of nic, and as long as they have come from US vendors, they have had no pepper taste. I also got a couple batches that had a very chemical taste that happened to be 36mg, but I think it was that vendors flavoring.

The peppery taste isn't that bad. I used to taste it when I smoked. I started vaping with a Dekang-based Chinese juice and that slight peppery taste was what I used to gauge if I had vaped the same amount of nicotine as I did with one cigarette. The amount of peppery taste signaled how much nicotine I was getting.

I've been off cigarettes totally for almost four months now. I used to smoke 1.5 packs per day of .8 mg nicotine cigarettes. Four months ago I was using 2-3 ml of 24 mg juice per day. Now I'm using 1.5 to 2 ml of 20 mg nicotine juice per day.

My local vendor claims that nicotine does not affect taste, but intuitve thinking leads one to believe that if a certain agent was left out of a flavored blend then the full flavor of the blend would come through without any intervention from that agent.

I know what you mean by the drug effect.. I been puffing on these 28mg prosmokes and I feel something. Like when you smoke that first cigarette after not smoking for an extended period of time or after a few days. But it just simmers down and never really goes away.

Don't know if I hate it or like it.. lol (maybe I will get the 36mg)

Keep in mind that any flavor you get from an unflavored nicotine juice is going to be very faint. In fact, people new to vaping are not likely to taste the nicotine at all until they have given up on smoking entirely for a few months. It takes a while for an ex-smoker's sense of taste to return to anything like normal. Flavorings can do a very good job of masking any nicotine taste.

After quitting the smokes for several weeks many vapers have to switch out their e-liquid flavors as their sense of taste improves. My sense of taste has returned quite a bit. So much so that I can't stand the taste of the first juices I used. Those juices now taste totally over-flavored to me.

Well that sounds like one of them good problems.. Can't wait to have my full taste back. On top of that and more importantly, I can't wait for my lungs to start revitalizing. I've been struggling with chronic bronchitis, hopefully I can shake that too!!
