I don't know if there is any hard & fast rule. It has to be a combination of nic level and how much you vape. I was a Light 100's smoker. I had read anywhere from 12mg - 16mg would be in the right area. But I quickly discovered that I enjoyed vaping so much that I would vape too much, thus getting too much nicotine. If I had been content to just vape the same way I smoked- (IE: once an hour for about 5 minutes) then the 16mg would probably have been just fine. But since I tend to vape more frequently then I smoked, I had to cut back the nic. I went down to 8mg and 10mg, and seems to work well- I don't get too much nic now, and can vape pretty much whenever I want.

I smoked marlboro lights, pack a day. When I ordered my kit I got some 12mg and some 6mg. 12mg ended up being slightly too harsh, however, I am saving these for my bad days when I am really craving.

6mg is what I like

In other words, try different level/flavor combo until you find something you like. People can recommend things until their mouth is sore, but ultimately its your taste buds

There is no correlation between what people used to smoke (or how much) and what they end up wanting for nic mg strength. The best solution to this is to get one that's high and one that's low and mix them until you can get a good estimate going. But give it time to catch up to you -- this method would take weeks, not hours.

Get a 6mg and a 24mg of the same flavor. Start high and add the low until the mix works just right. FWIW: most vapers use 24mg, followed closely by those who like 18mg.
