Hey guys - it's now been 18 days since my last analog (woot!) But I'm wondering as to why you guys vape with nicotine. Somehow I was able to quit pretty much cold turkey once I got my first PV (minus a few drags or whatever it's called now off of a high nic blu cig) so I'm just curious as to whether most of you are still addicted to nicotine or if there's another reason why you add it to your juice. And for those of you still addicted, are you trying to slowly cut back? Sorry if this is a dumb question- I'm new at this and very confused!

Thanks

Some people cut back, some people don't. Nicotine is not the most damaging thing about cigarettes, so even with nicotine users are still cutting their risks from smoking related diseases dramatically.

some people seem to need the nicotine more than others. Some are satisfied with the replication of the hand to mouth habit and blowing vapor.

Personally I've cut down from 24 mg/ml (which, admittedly, was too high for me) to 6 mg/ml.

First of all, congrats to you!Not a stupid question at all. I cannot speak for everyone so I will give you my personal take.

Yes, I am still addicted. I still consider myself new after 10 weeks off of ciggarettes. I started with 24mg Nic juice which appeared to satisfy my craving. After one week I purchased 12mg and vaped like a scuba diver under water. Soon I will cut to 6mg and then we will see. Since I have quit and vaped, I feel so good I am not too worried about the nic part of it. So, yes, I am cutting back.

Not sure why you are confused but people are different with different tolerances with the right to choose what they want.

Well done on quitting!

I love my nicotine hit I do, but some days I will need an 18mg liquid, others I'm good to go with 6mg. I've never had a 24mg juice though, I started on 18mg, which I was quite happy with even though I smoked full strength tobacco rollies without filters. I am interested in trying a 0mg liquid but tentative about the throat hit, and then I've bought a 0mg instead of a 6 or 12mg. Everyone is different and you could very well be content with the vaping experience alone without a nicotine buzz. Either way, happy vaping :vapor:

Congratulations on quitting the stinkies! Power to you :toast:

I also went from 24mg to 6mg. I do feel like I function better with a little nicotine, but I don't feel that the addiction is anywhere near what it was with cigarettes. I can easily do without now with no cravings or side effects. I've done the research on nicotine and am not concerned about the health effects, so there's not much reason to get rid of it completely.

One thing I will mention is that I have known several people that aggressively reduced to 0 nic and all of them ended up smoking again because vaping didn't satisfy them.

I agree with the first, and it's similar to my experience.

I also very much agree with the 2nd point. I think, for some people, reducing nicotine too quickly and dramatically can definitely backfire.

With me it is obviously a nicotine addiction cause I smoked for over 30 years. I started out with 24mg nic juices and every few months I cut it down by 3mg nic because it was my initial intention to get to 0mg nic and then quit vaping. I got down to 6mg nic and when I tried to go lower I started feeling Blah, for lack of a better word. I seemed to have less ambition and energy. I talked to my doctor about it because he has been interested in learning about vaping for his other patients and he told me that perhaps I just function better with a small amount of nicotine. So I got back on my 6mg and started feeling myself again. I think that for some of us our bodies have been used to nicotine for so long that we just function better with it. All in all, my health is so much better now so if I need to keep on vaping to feel better, I will. Besides that, I have truly come to enjoy it and find it relaxing.
Another reason to have nicotine in your juices is that it affects throat hit, which is a feeling in your throat similar to the feeling you get from cigarettes. The less nicotine, the less throat hit so if that is something you want than you have to take that into consideration with the nic levels you use.
It sounds like the transition to vaping was pretty easy for you, which is great, but since you mentioned that you take a few "drags" off a high nic blu now and then you are still on a certain level of nic. If you are completely off nicotine now then is vaping something you plan to continue just for enjoyment?

my :2c:

From what I understand reading current research, nicotine is one of the most addictive substances we know (controversial but anyway). However the physical addiction is overcome very quickly. A few day to a week. In addition the withdrawal symptoms are different in everyone. The rest of it is actually an extremely strong habit. Smoking while drinking, driving, after food etc. I felt I needed the nicotine in addition to the handling of a cig type thing in order to quit analogs. I'm cutting back slowly. Started with 24mg, went down to 18 and currently 12 after about 1 year of vaping. If you managed to go just with the handling habit that's great. I wish I could.

Congrats to quitting and welcome to the forum.

That is a concern for me in a way, I don't want to crave an analog because of nicotine withdrawal, pretty much content where I am, although if I'm chain vaping 18mg I tend to get dizzy. I think buying one bottle of 0mg liquid in your favourite flavour is a good step forward, that way if you feel you need the nicotine hit you can drop the 6 or 18 or 24mg in your tank and get your buzz.

That's what I'm afraid of! I've made it so far without nicotine though so I'm not sure what to do...

I started 3 1/2 years ago with 24mg nic. I never really thought about reducing my nic level until about 6 months ago. I've transitioned from 24mg down to 12mg and 8mg since then and may go lower, but then again I may not. Occasionally, I will accept a bottle of 16mg from a local supplier rather than buy 16mg and 8mg to mix for a 12mg result. Mostly, I'm around 11mg, sometimes at 8mg. A little nic is said to be good for cognizance.

I started at 24 then 18 after a month. Now I am on 12. Still trying to get used to it though. I think I might bump up to 15 to split the difference and see how I feel at that point. As far as wondering about everyone else, remember all of us are different except for one fact 99% of us did the to either totally quit or drastically cut back on analogs. So congrats for quitting and asking questions. Welcome to ECF!

Just a random question here, how many years did you smoke for and how many a day? I was on 13 years and rollie equivalent to 1 PAD give or take. I quite cold turkey for 6 months and then started vaping. It's really interesting seeing how different people react to nicotine. I've heard of people throwing their pack on the BBQ and never touching an analog again, others spend years trying to hold a decent quit only to relapse every few days or so. The science behind it is quite remarkable

I have *just* gone down from 18 to 12. I started on 24 for the first month, then 18 since.

I doubt I could go zero, the last few days have been quite twitchy.......

still, 2ml of 12mg is less nicotine (by any measurement known to science or even vapers) than what I was smoking. :)

I WILL get there. I might NEED to get there of the Euro/UK government have their evil way.

Congrats on quitting!!! I'm going on 18 days myself without an analog and I do NOT miss it.

I used to smoke about 2-3 packs a week for almost 20 years which wasn't much so I started with 11mg of nicotine. I recently dropped it down to 6mg during the day and 0mg at night (nicotine kept me up till the wee hours) and I'm totally fine. For me it's been trial and error with different juices. I wasn't fond of the juices I had with 11mg (Vape Dudes) but I'm loving the 6mg juices I have from Street Fighterr Juices.

I'm also waiting to hear what law the EU throws at us next. It's really socially accepted in Ireland though. I haven't had any issues with vaping in the pub or public places. I even vaped in a tourist hostel in Dublin, no one even cared, the analog smokers were intrigued, but as for the rest they didn't even bother with it.

I smoked a pack a day since I started around 7-8 years ago... As for using the blu, I only continued to use it for a day or two once I got my PV almost 3 weeks ago. I guess I've been able to quit just having something to distract me for a few minutes but I love the flavors!
