Nicotine Timeline?

Hello, everyone -

I just started vaping last month. For the first week or so, I alternated analogs with 24 mg juice in a Kanger Protank 3 on an Ego Twist. Within a couple of days, I felt that was way too much (I also learned I don't like tobacco flavours and that I'm not crazy about mint flavours, despite being a 40 per day menthol smoker). So I dropped to 12 mg, and quit the analogs. I haven't had any withdrawal symptoms, and two weeks ago dropped to 6 mg.

Now I'm putting together a juice order, and I'm thinking of going down to 3 mg. Is this too fast a drop? I'd hate to end up craving at this point, but I'm just not feeling any need for the nic, although I'm enjoying the vape experience. I guess I'm just finding it all too easy, considering that I've been a smoker for almost 40 years. Not arguing with success, just a little nervous that things seem to be going too well.

Any advice from the sucessful quitters?

Thanks, Woofer - I had seen your link before. But I guess I wasn't particularly clear. I was an evening chain smoker, and now I am an evening chain vaper (thank goodness for passthrough batteries!), and I found that the higher levels were making me jittery and headachy. That doesn't happen with the 6 mg, and I'm finding the vape smoother and more flavourful. Not a fan of throat hit.

Eventually I would like to get to 0 mg, but for a practical reason - living in Canada, non-nicotine juice doesn't get confiscated at the border so I can try more US vendors. :)

if you wanna lower ur nic thats up to you... its all your choice...

Getting free of nicotine for some people can be rewarding. But, I would keep some 6, and maybe even some 12 around... just in case you have some bad cravings. Order some 3, some 6, some 9 or 12... and thne you got a stockpile in case you get a bad craving and the 3 isnt cutting it.

I agree with Spencer. I weaned of nic in about nine months. I still was not over the cigarette addiction, which took about a year and a half for me. I'm sure I could have dropped the nic faster than I did, but I didn't feel the need to and I was very happy to not be smoking.

As long as you have a bottle of the higher nic juice handy, you can always vape a tank of that if you feel like it. Juice lasts at least a year if not three and it's not expensive anyway, so I would have a bottle of 12 mg, a couple at 6 mg and buy a full order at 3 and see how it goes :)

When I started vaping (first with the blu Plus in January and then the Halo Triton in February of this year) I started with 24 mg. My next step down was upgrading to the iStick with a ProTank 3. I lowered my nicotine down to 15 mg by mixing 24 mg and 6 mg in a 1:1 ratio. Once I upgraded my tank to the Nautilus Mini, I had to drop down to 6 mg. My 15 mg mix was just too harsh. My first day at 6 mg I had some pretty bad cravings. However the next day I tried increasing it back up to 12 mg and I realized that it was just too harsh on my throat, and this was even with using a 70VG/30PG juice. So now I'm back at 6 mg and my body has gotten used to the lower nicotine levels. I have also started using the Subtank Mini with the 0.5 ohm coil more often, so that has helped with the cravings as well. Using higher VG juices also helped to lessen the harshness from the PG.

So in the course of right about 3 months, I have cut my nicotine strength by 75 percent. The 6 mg is a good level for me now, so I don't really foresee me dropping to 3 mg soon. Maybe if I get into dripping.

Since you're in Canada, why not order all your flavors in zero, where there's no risk of them being confiscated, and also order up a good sized bottle of unflavored 24 or even 36mg juice to spike your flavored juices with as required? That way you can experiment with just how little nic you can get away with. Good unflavored juice can be gotten very inexpensively.

Congrats on getting off the stinkies. Just an idea. order some 0 mg and 6 mg of the same flavors. You can mix 50/50 for 3 mg or any other ratio you want. That still leave you some 6 mg for those "I got have a smoke" cravings. I have one tank with 12 mg in it just in case.

Lung hitting in Subtanks sub ohm, 3mg is enough, lung to mouth 6mg, thats my method and I started on a tobacco flavour (yuck when I think about it now) at 18mg, its not needed with vaping... the more you drop the nic, the better the flavour too..

I smoked 60 a day !

Try the 3mg but make sure you have some higher nic juice too, if you crave the nic on 3mg, go back up, easy as that, well done and don't worry so much.. !!

Hey guys - thanks for all the great input! I ended up splitting my order into two strengths, so that should give me some wiggle room. I have plenty of the 12 left as well, so I can use it as a "parachute" in case of emergency.

It's funny, though - I would have thought I was terribly addicted to nicotine. Now it appears I am more addicted to the "fiddling" and having something to do with my hands/mouth. Never would have believed it.
